The elder commenced a dialogue in his native tongue with the middle-aged man, his primary objective being the healing of the young girl, who was of his bloodline.
The middle-aged man, consumed by fear, recognized his predicament; he was ensnared and had no choice but to cooperate. His consciousness was only partially intact, rendering him incapable of resistance in his current state.
Observing the middle-aged man's fragile condition, the elder understood his diminished awareness. He moved to his side and administered a potent healing elixir.
The flow of blood from the middle-aged man began to cease, and his faculties slowly returned.
Meanwhile, I remained in a state of patient anticipation, awaiting the system's full update to discover its newly unlocked functionalities.
Concurrently, my attention occasionally shifted towards them, and I surmised that the elder was now capable of managing the situation.
[Ding! 5% update complete.]
[Ding! The host can now comprehend and converse in any language.]
The system's voice abruptly resonated, leaving me momentarily stunned. This was unexpected, welcome news. A question then surfaced in my mind, perhaps seemingly trivial.
"What about the monsters?"
"Can I understand their language?" I inquired of the system, the query stemming from a genuine desire for clarity.
[Ding! The host can understand the language of any intelligent species.]
The system's response echoed in my mind once more, bringing a sense of contentment. Before I could react further, a sharp mental jolt coursed through me.
"Where is he?"
"He poisoned my descendant and has now dispatched you to abduct her."
"State how you wish to meet your end," the elder demanded of the middle-aged man.
At these words, the middle-aged man was overcome with terror. The direst possible outcome had befallen him.
"Lord Barry, I have erred. Please, release me," the middle-aged man pleaded.
In contrast, my own eyes widened with utter disbelief.
I could now decipher their exchange! My heart swelled with elation, foreseeing a significantly smoother journey to the Opal Forest ahead.
"Where is Henry at this precise moment?"
"I require him to cure my descendant. Should he refuse, I shall commence executing those in his vicinity," Barry declared to the middle-aged man.
"Lord Barry, I am prepared this instant. However, I genuinely possess no knowledge of his current location. He merely issued instructions to a select few of us to seize your descendant," the middle-aged man stammered.
Meanwhile, a clearer picture was forming in my mind. I reasoned that the elder, being a Magic Lord, would undoubtedly resolve this predicament.
"Cough."
I deliberately cleared my throat. Both men’s heads snapped towards me, their faces etched with astonishment.
Their eyes reflected sheer surprise, as both the elder and the middle-aged man found themselves comprehending my speech.
"You possess the ability to speak?" the middle-aged man exclaimed.
"So, the gentleman was exercising caution from the outset," the elder remarked with a gentle smile.
He had misinterpreted my silence, believing I had intentionally concealed my linguistic abilities out of self-preservation.
"I have rendered the assistance I could. At present, I have urgent matters to attend to." With that declaration, I attempted to depart.
Swoosh!
In a flash, the elder materialized before me, effectively barring my path. This sudden maneuver caught me off guard, igniting a flicker of annoyance within me.
The injured middle-aged man felt a surge of relief, anticipating my departure and thus avoiding further confrontation. However, he had not foreseen the elder intervening to obstruct my exit.
I met the elder's gaze directly.
"Do you truly believe I am incapable of acting against a mere Magic Lord?" I posed the question to the elder.
Barry recoiled slightly. While his intention was to exert intimidation, he was genuinely taken aback.
He perceived that my response lacked any genuine fear; my words held weight, indicating an absence of apprehension towards him.
Elder Barry wished for me to remain. He had, after all, managed to suppress the poison afflicting the young girl.
As long as I stayed, his descendant stood a chance of recovery.
"Young man, I have a modest plea to make. I am confident in your ability to save my descendant. Should you succeed, I shall endeavor to fulfill your wish," Barry stated after careful consideration.
Hearing this, a frown creased my brow. It wasn't that I was unwilling to help, but rather that I lacked the means.
"Old man, only the individual who inflicted the malevolent spell can undo it. Seek him out and compel him to revoke his curse upon her," I advised.
The elder expressed surprise once more, acknowledging the truth in my words. This confirmed his earlier assessment that my prior treatment was not mere chance but a demonstration of genuine skill.
The middle-aged man, still prone on the ground, was even more astonished. He now comprehended why the little girl appeared to be recovering – it was due to my intervention.
His fear intensified significantly. Previously, I had incapacitated him with a peculiar magical force, and now he heard that I had also treated the young girl.
This was alarming news. Such a feat was unprecedented; no one had ever been known to counteract an evil magic spell. The middle-aged man desperately wished to relay this information to Master Henry.
He frantically searched for his device, realizing he'd emptied his entire storage bracelet. His gaze landed on the device, not far from his position. A difficult struggle ensued as he attempted to retrieve it, desperately trying to remain undetected by the two figures nearby. However, his stealth proved futile. The old man and I both turned our attention to the middle-aged man, whose clandestine movements had not gone unnoticed. "Cough!" The old man let out a cough, unleashing a potent wave of coercion from his body. This formidable pressure slammed into the middle-aged man, forcefully propelling him backward. Puchak! This time, his internal organs ruptured violently, and a torrent of blood erupted from the wound. His life force, which had only just stabilized, plummeted to its lowest point in an instant. The middle-aged man felt death approaching. With a final, reluctant breath, he perished the very next moment.
