SunHaven City - Empty Ground
Having figured everything out, I chose to depart from there. Right as I turned back, a flurry of alerts chimed from the system.
[Ding! Magic Lords are detected.]
[Ding! The host is advised to leave the place.]
In the instant that followed, I halted my steps and checked if anyone could spot me. The system assured me that nobody was watching me at present.
Swoosh!
I vanished from that location and materialized inside the Gregor Mansion moments later. Without delay, I rushed to the control room.
Positioning myself before the control mirror, I stared at the barren ground displayed within it. I couldn’t fathom why Magic Lords had arrived.
Soon enough, four Magic Lords showed up on the screen. They weren’t by themselves; several wizards accompanied them.
Among the group, a recognizable figure caught my eye. It was none other than Gary Crest. A spark of excitement lit up my eyes.
"What’s he doing here?" I muttered to myself.
Next, I noticed the badges adorning their robes. Those insignias marked the Crest Family. Clearly, these Magic Lords held elder positions.
Observing their animated conversation, curiosity gripped me. They had come with a specific goal in mind.
My eyes stayed glued to the control mirror. The Magic Lords wrapped up their talk. Gary Crest lingered behind them, positioned with their subordinates.
One Magic Lord pivoted and addressed him. Gary Crest nodded in response before issuing commands to the group.
The men sprang into action, pulling out their devices. They began deploying the gadgets across the barren ground.
Once placed, the devices sprang to life. In a flash, beams of light erupted, enveloping the entire empty area.
A shimmering dome of light formations materialized. Gary Crest’s subordinates had sealed off the ground. Outsiders couldn’t breach the formations now.
From the control mirror, I observed the entire process. That light dome stemmed from magic-tech innovation.
Luckily, I had already been within the empty ground [area]. The light dome had encompassed me too.
Shifting my attention to Gary Crest and the Magic Lords, a strong suspicion formed. Unless I was mistaken, they were aware of the underground hidden chamber’s existence.
Yet the Crest Family had guarded this secret tightly. Had the information leaked, the Flame Elemental Tower would have intervened by now.
Time ticked by.
One Magic Lord made his move. He cast a magic spell. The earth before him trembled violently. A massive pit formed.
Skillfully, he commanded the soil to part ways. The dirt piled up on one side of the surface.
The remaining three Magic Lords trailed after him. Gary Crest brought up the rear. Truth be told, he shouldn’t have joined them.
But overwhelming curiosity drove him forward. He sensed the empty ground held something extraordinary beneath it.
The Crest Family had concealed this mystery for ages, yet recent happenings in Crystal City had put them on high alert.
The Flame Elemental Tower’s maneuvers startled them most. Should that tower be hunting forbidden artifacts, it spelled dire trouble for the family.
After all, the Crest Family had withheld this intel from the Flame Elemental Tower. Discovery would ignite their fury in unforeseen ways.
They might even assault the Crest Family directly. Thus, the Family Head opted to excavate the underground hidden chamber.
Higher-ups in the Crest Family and allies agreed hiding it from the Flame Elemental Tower grew impossible.
They resolved to surrender whatever lay inside the underground hidden chamber before it was too late.
It wasn’t long before they cleared the earth away. An ancient, corroded iron door emerged into view.
The Magic Lords exchanged glances. Caution was key before venturing into the hidden underground chamber.
Gary Crest stood among them. Spotting the door to the hidden underground chamber ignited thrill within him.
"Wow!"
"We’ve found it," Gary Crest exclaimed, voice brimming with excitement. He strode past the deliberating Magic Lords, brushing them off. Approaching the door, he attempted to swing it open.
"Stop that. We can’t tell if it’s secure," warned one of the Magic Lords.
The other three Magic Lords’ expressions shifted. They’d assumed Gary Crest was merely inspecting the door. What happened next left them dumbfounded.
Creak!
Gary shoved the door ajar. Astonishingly, it wasn’t secured. This only fueled Gary’s exhilaration.
He pressed harder. Though resistant, the door yielded a narrow opening.
From the crevice, a swirl of black-and-red smoke billowed out. Gary Crest and the four Magic Lords were taken aback.
Gary Crest bore the worst of it first. The black-red smoke invaded his body, sending him crumpling to the ground unconscious.
The Magic Lords fared slightly better. They swiftly shielded themselves against the black-red smoke.
But just when they believed themselves safe, consciousness began to slip away from them too.
Back in the Gregor Mansion, turmoil raged in my heart.
"System, what’s going on with them?" I queried the system.
[Ding! A dangerous Artifact is detected. It has affected the Magic Lords and the Supreme Wizard. Prolonged influence can damage their minds.]
The system’s voice echoed in my head. My hunch was spot on. Something perilous lurked within the underground chamber.
"System, can you keep me safe?" I asked.
[Ding! The Artifact is a living Magic Artifact. It reacts by sensing the presence of wizards. The host’s presence is shielded by the system.]
The system responded clearly. Instantly, I teleported outside. My eyes locked onto the hidden underground room.
I approached the door and flung it wide open.
Dark red smoke billowed once more. It emanated from within the room. Stepping inside, I found darkness awaiting. I retrieved a gadget and activated it.
Brilliant light flooded the chamber.
