God-tier Farm Chapter 3884 Reunion of old friends (1)

Ma Jia's residence was situated in the area between the airport and the guard post. Originally a series of bungalows, these buildings had been repurposed into staff housing for the couples living on the island.
Its location was quite central, making it a short trip to either the airport's weather station or the guard station.
Paradise Island was relatively small in scale. Even traveling from the far east to the westernmost tip was a minor journey compared to the daily commutes of ten or twenty kilometers common in major metropolitan areas.
Driving an off-road vehicle from the Yanhuang building, Xia Ruofei reached the single-story dormitory where Ma Jia and his wife resided in just a few minutes.
He arrived carrying two bottles of aged Drunken Eight Immortals wine in one hand and a food bag containing a whole smoked goose in the other.
This particular delicacy was something he had discovered two or three years prior at an authentic Wuyi Mountain specialty shop on San Shan Street. He had purchased over a dozen at the time. Since they were preserved within the Spirit Map Space, the smoked goose remained as fresh as the day it was bought. In fact, due to the prolonged exposure to an environment saturated with Spirit Qi, the flavor had actually improved. For a regular person, consuming food infused with such rich Spirit Qi was incredibly beneficial for the body.
During his childhood, Xia Ruofei’s grandfather used to take him to a small local eatery to enjoy the famous Langu smoked goose. He had been hooked on that distinct flavor ever since, particularly the extra-spicy variety. The batch he currently held was from that same spicy selection.
Knowing that Ma Jia and his wife enjoyed spicy food, Xia Ruofei was confident this smoked goose would be a hit.
Upon his arrival, Ma Jia and his wife greeted him with great warmth.
“Old Company Commander, Sister-in-law, I brought an extra dish!” Xia Ruofei said with a grin as he handed the bag to Ma Jia’s wife, Lin Yue. “It’s a smoked goose from Wuyishan. It came via the cold chain, and I pulled it from the fridge this morning for our lunch!”
“I’ll go ahead and carve it up then!” Lin Yue replied with a smile, accepting the gift without any pretense. “You two brothers go ahead and catch up. I’ll whip up a couple more dishes, so feel free to start drinking!”
“Much appreciated! Sorry to put you to work, Sister-in-law!” Xia Ruofei laughed.
Ma Jia and Xia Ruofei took their seats at the table. Xia Ruofei promptly set the two bottles of Drunken Eight Immortals down and joked, “Old Company Commander, since we aren’t busy today, let’s do a bottle each. No playing tricks!”
Ma Jia had a solid tolerance for alcohol; a single bottle of white wine usually wouldn’t faze him. However, he hesitated slightly, saying, “Ruofei, the next two days are going to be packed. I was planning to head to the Guard Bureau this afternoon to talk to the guys.”
Xia Ruofei dismissed the concern with a wave of his hand. “There’s no rush. You should take a good rest after we drink. Whatever needs doing can wait until tomorrow!”
“Well...” Ma Jia paused for a second before nodding. “Alright then!”
It had been a long time since he’d shared a drink with Xia Ruofei. Given his capacity, half a liter of wine wouldn’t leave him incapacitated, and he could still manage some light work from home if needed.
The two men opened their own bottles, pouring for themselves rather than for each other.
Once his glass was full, Xia Ruofei raised it and said, “Old Company Commander, let me start with a toast to you! Because of your help over these last few years, Peach Blossom Island has remained completely secure!”
“You’re making me blush!” Ma Jia said with a self-deprecating smile. “Aside from those few pirates during the first year—who were nowhere near the island and fled after a few warning shots—it’s been totally quiet. With the guards earning millions of US dollars in annual salary, I sometimes feel like I’m getting paid for doing nothing!”
Just then, Lin Yue arrived with the sliced smoked goose. She smiled and said, “Ruofei, you guys start. I’m going to finish those last two dishes!”
“Sister-in-law, there's already plenty of food, don't overwork yourself! Come sit and eat with us!” Xia Ruofei insisted.
“Don’t worry, it won’t take long! You two keep talking!” Lin Yue replied cheerfully.
Xia Ruofei noted that Lin Yue seemed to be in high spirits. She likely knew about the upcoming evacuation of the Peach Blossom Island staff, suggesting Ma Jia had already broached the subject with her.
Once Lin Yue stepped back into the kitchen, Xia Ruofei leaned in. “Old Company Commander, have you discussed things with Sister-in-law?”
“I told her yesterday,” Ma Jia confirmed with a nod.
“And what are her thoughts on the matter?” Xia Ruofei inquired.
Ma Jia smiled. “She agrees that leaving Peach Blossom Island is the right move. While it’s peaceful, it’s far from the world, and it gets lonely after a while. Plus, her parents are still back in their hometown. Communication is limited to phone calls and the internet. They’re getting older, and as their children, it’s hard not being there to look after them...”
Because communication on Peach Blossom Island relied on satellites, the costs for calls and data were quite steep. Even with their generous salaries, constant internet access was impractical, making family contact a genuine struggle.
Xia Ruofei nodded in understanding. “So, you’re both on the same page? Do you plan to return to work in China, or are you looking at Australia?”
“We’ve thought it over carefully and decided to head back to China to build our future,” Ma Jia explained. “Even though Sanshan isn't our original home, being in the country makes everything easier. We’ve saved up quite a bit over the years, so getting a mortgage on a large house in Sanshan shouldn't be an issue. I’ll bring my in-laws to live with us. If we can have a child in a year or two, our lives will be perfect!”
