The Sacred Forest awakened as Sophie's connection to it manifested, causing ancient trees to stir and roots to form complex patterns around her. A pillar of golden green light shot into the sky, resonating with all elves. Meanwhile, Edgar returned, reporting the rescue of eleven children but also the appearance of the Veylor Chain and the Holy Church. Cardinal Matthew revealed the Church's search for a bloodline connected to the World Tree, a secret Aelira seemed to know, prompting her to prepare for a significant revelation.

Meanwhile...Southwestern region of the forest.

Matthew felt that the humiliation he had suffered tonight might surpass everything he had experienced throughout the past several decades combined.

Both his legs had been broken, while his hands had been bound behind his back with magical chains Gabriel had found at the Veylor transport point. And now, Gabriel was carrying him over one shoulder like a piece of cargo while moving rapidly through the forest.

"Gabriel! Put me down!"

"Where exactly are you taking me?"

"If you want to obtain more information from me, then at the very least you should..."

"Shut up."

Gabriel finally spoke.

Matthew’s expression stiffened.

"You..."

Gabriel suddenly stopped, which made Matthew fall silent as well because he felt it. Gabriel had not stopped because he was talking.

There was something ahead.

The dark forest was unusually quiet.

Gabriel stood atop a thick tree branch, his gaze slowly sweeping across the area ahead.

The next second...

Whoosh!

A cold flash shot out from the darkness.

Gabriel tilted his head, and the arrow flew past his cheek.

Almost simultaneously, the sound of rustling leaves came from both sides as three black figures charged toward him from different directions.

He had thought they were goblins or another intelligent race that lived here in the Sacred Forest, but why would they attack him? Upon taking a closer look, he finally saw.

Three humans!

All of them wore black light armor without a single identifying mark.

The person at the front did not waste a single word. The short sword in his hand stabbed directly toward Gabriel’s throat while the other two sealed off his escape routes from the left and right.

Their coordination was clean, without a single unnecessary movement. They were obviously not ordinary mercenaries.

Gabriel did not even put Matthew down. He merely leaned backward slightly, allowing the blade to sweep past his throat.

The next instant, his left hand had already clamped around the attacker’s wrist.

Crack!

The sound of bones shattering echoed through the forest.

Before the man could even scream, Gabriel pulled him forward.

Bang!

His knee slammed heavily into the man’s abdomen.

The man’s body immediately curled forward, feeling as though all the air had been knocked out of his lungs.

Gabriel grabbed the back of his neck and hurled him directly toward the second attacker approaching from the right.

Boom!

Both men crashed into a tree trunk.

Seeing this, the third man did not hesitate whatsoever.

Retreat! Retreat was the only thing on his mind. He turned around to flee into the wide expanse of the Sacred Forest.

"Pretty quick reaction."

Gabriel watched his retreating back before stomping down with his right foot.

Bang!

The branch shattered, and his entire body shot forward, relying purely on his physical strength to move at high speed between the trees.

The black clothed man’s speed was already extremely fast, but only a few seconds later, he heard a voice behind him.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

The man’s pupils abruptly contracted as he spun around.

His short sword slashed horizontally.

Gabriel lowered his head and avoided it before throwing a punch.

Bang!

His fist struck the man’s chest. The light armor instantly caved inward, and the man’s body flew backward like a cannonball, smashing through several branches before crashing heavily into the ground.

Gabriel landed once more. Matthew was still draped over his shoulder, his position having barely changed.

Although he seemed perfectly fine, because of the excessive jumping and running, his face had turned extremely bloodshot.

"Who sent you guys?" Gabriel asked.

The black clothed man coughed out a mouthful of blood, his face filled with defiance.

Gabriel was about to walk toward him when Matthew suddenly spoke.

"No."

Gabriel stopped. "You know them?"

"I don’t know them." Matthew’s expression was equally unpleasant. "But they’re neither Church knights nor the Chain of Belief."

"Then who are they?"

"I don’t know."

Gabriel glanced at him.

"There sure are a lot of things you don’t know today, unlike earlier."

Matthew’s face darkened.

But this time, he truly was not lying.

Gabriel looked toward the black clothed man on the ground again.

However, the next instant, a trace of black blood suddenly flowed from the corner of the man’s mouth.

Gabriel’s eyes changed.

He arrived in front of the man in a single step and grabbed his jaw.

But he was too late. The light was already rapidly fading from the man’s pupils.

Poison! There was a poison capsule hidden inside his tooth.

Gabriel turned around. The other two men he had sent flying were also dead.

Their actions had been almost identical, each one of them dropping to the ground dead.

"Interesting." Gabriel slowly stood.

For people of this level to commit suicide without the slightest hesitation meant that the force behind them was definitely anything but ordinary.

More importantly, what had their target been?

Him?

Matthew?

Or...

Gabriel suddenly lowered his head.

Matthew was also staring at the three corpses, genuine confusion appearing on his face for the first time.

Clearly, even he had not expected this.

"Looks like," Gabriel said, "tonight is livelier than I expected."

He hoisted Matthew back over his shoulder and continued forward.

This time, his speed increased considerably.

...

At the same time.

Dozens of kilometers away from where he was, a figure completely wrapped in a gray cloak was moving rapidly through the forest.

It was the observer who had previously escaped from the valley.

He did not return to any camp, nor did he head toward the goblins’ underground nest. Instead, he traveled all the way toward the outskirts of the Sacred Forest. Only after reaching a rocky region where elves were almost never active did he finally stop.

A black clothed man had already been waiting ahead for quite some time.

"Situation."

The observer said,

"The transaction failed."

"What about Matthew?"

"Captured."

The black clothed man frowned slightly.

"Who did it?"

"Gabriel Reyes."

The black clothed man’s eyes changed slightly. Clearly, he knew that name as well, but like Matthew, he hadn’t expected him to be here.

"There’s more," the observer continued. "The target has been confirmed to have entered the Sacred Forest."

"How sure are you?" The eyes of that black clothed man widened when he heard this.

"Matthew personally confirmed it. Furthermore, a large scale disturbance of natural mana just occurred inside the Sacred Forest."

The black clothed man raised his head.

Even from such a great distance, a faint trace of golden green light that had yet to completely dissipate could still be seen at the edge of the sky.

He stayed silent for several seconds before taking a pure white crystal from his robes.

Crack.

The crystal shattered in his hand as faint white light rapidly gathered into an extremely complex sacred pattern.

"Send the information." He said. "Tell Her Highness the Saintess. The divine blood that disappeared years ago has appeared, and we need to make a move fast this time."
