Aera and Asad moved to a secluded pavilion to hatch the Bloodfeeding Pixie egg. After Aera provided a sample of her blood, the egg hatched, revealing a tiny, winged creature with silver hair and crimson horns. The pixie immediately bonded with Aera, establishing a Blood Contract and becoming her companion.

The tiny pixie hovered in front of Aera, its translucent wings already fluttering rapidly as it stared at her with its ruby-red eyes.

It didn’t seem like it had just hatched from an egg...

Aera slowly extended one finger toward it, and after a brief hesitation, the little creature flew closer and landed gently on her fingertip.

"Hello."

The pixie tilted its head.

Aera watched its reaction carefully before trying again. "Can you understand me?"

To her surprise, the little creature nodded.

Aera’s eyes immediately widened. "You really understand me?"

The pixie nodded again, its silver hair swaying gently as it moved.

"That’s amazing..."

Aera couldn’t hide her excitement. She had expected the Bloodfeeding Pixie to be intelligent, but she hadn’t expected it to understand human speech immediately after hatching.

The little creature suddenly fluttered its wings and flew toward her face. Aera instinctively raised her hand, thinking it might be trying to land there, but the pixie simply settled on her shoulder and looked up at her.

For several seconds, it remained completely still.

Then it opened its tiny mouth.

"Mama."

Aera froze.

Asad, who had been watching from the side, also stopped for a moment. It had never seen any creatures from the Pet Egg System speak like this at all...

Asad was confused as he tried to find a reason. Well, there had been a lot of new things in this Apocalypse, so he thought that the Pet System might’ve been upgraded or something.

Aera slowly turned her head toward the pixie.

"What did you just say?"

"Mama."

The little pixie nodded enthusiastically.

Aera’s expression softened immediately as she liked hearing it...

Furthermore, she was sure that it wasn’t only her who could hear her pet. Based on Asad’s reaction, the pixie’s voice could also be heard by others.

"You called me Mama? I want to hear it again!"

"Mama!"

The pixie fluttered around her head before returning to her shoulder, seemingly delighted with itself.

Aera couldn’t help smiling.

She carefully lifted the little creature into her hands and brought it closer to her face. The pixie didn’t resist. Instead, it happily rubbed its cheek against her finger.

"Oh my goodness..."

Aera gently stroked its silver hair.

"You’re really attached to me already, aren’t you?"

The pixie nodded.

"Mama."

Aera’s heart nearly melted. It seemed that it could only say ’mama,’ but that was enough.

Asad couldn’t help smiling at the scene. The Blood Contract had clearly done more than simply establish him as the creature’s owner. The little pixie already seemed to regard Aera as the center of its world.

Aera looked at Asad with a proud expression.

"It likes me."

"That much is obvious."

Aera looked down at the pixie again, unable to hide her happiness.

"You’re my little companion now."

The pixie nodded.

"Mama."

Aera laughed softly.

"Yes. I’m your Mama."

The little creature nestled against her palm contentedly.

Asad recalled the stats of the pixie...

The Bloodfeeding Pixie was only Level 1, and its potential was merely B, but its abilities could become quite useful as it grew.

"That pixie will definitely be useful... What are you going to name it?" he asked.

Aera blinked for a moment as she didn’t consider it yet.

She looked at the pixie, then at Asad. She wanted to come up with something but nothing came to her head.

"I haven’t decided yet."

"You should probably think of something soon."

"I will."

Aera carefully placed the pixie back on her shoulder.

"Maybe I’ll ask some of my friends for suggestions..."

Asad paused as he heard this and immediately thought of an idea.

"Do you know there are gatherings for that? I mean pet owners’ gatherings..."

Aera immediately looked interested.

"Gatherings?"

"Pet owners in the shelter regularly gather to exchange information. They talk about feeding, training, evolution, breeding, and the different magical creatures they’ve encountered. Some even trade food and resources for their pets."

Aera’s eyes brightened.

"Can we go?"

Asad glanced at the little pixie sitting on her shoulder before nodding.

"Sure. There’s one gathering being held soon. We can take a look before we leave."

Aera smiled.

"Then let’s go."

The pixie then happily fluttered its wings.

Aera gently touched its tiny head.

"Yes, yes. Mama is taking you to meet some other pets."

Asad shook his head with a quiet laugh as they left the pavilion together.

Even in the middle of an apocalypse, where resources were scarce and every survivor had to worry about staying alive, people still found ways to gather around the things that brought them happiness.

For many survivors, raising magical pets had become more than a way to gain another source of strength.

It had become a small part of the life they were trying to preserve.

Meanwhile, around Sector 16, the disk-shaped vessel slowly accelerated above the Floating Island.

At first, Shane didn’t notice much of a difference.

The vessel was simply hovering several hundred meters above the ground, its blue lights glowing faintly as it moved through the sky.

However, that quickly changed.

The surrounding landscape began to disappear beneath them at an astonishing speed.

Shane looked down through one of the transparent panels as the vast ruins of the First Citadel rapidly became smaller in the distance.

"...This is fast."

Tundra was practically glued to the window.

"Fast? This is insanely fast!"

Max glanced at the instruments displayed across the nearby control panel.

"We’ve only been traveling for a few minutes, but we’ve already crossed several sectors."

Merlin smiled proudly.

"I told you this vessel was designed for long-distance travel."

Shane nodded slowly.

Now that he had actually experienced its speed, he finally understood how valuable the vessel was.

The Floating Fortress was powerful and could carry an enormous number of people and resources, but it was simply too large and cumbersome to travel quickly. Moving it across the continent took considerable time, especially when Shane needed to reach a distant shelter.

The Floating Island was another matter entirely.

The Mist Shelter had been established there, and the entire island was now theirs, but the Floating Island itself still couldn’t be controlled properly. It continued drifting through the sky on its own, generally circling around the area between Sectors 15 and 20.

It was useful as a mobile territory, but it wasn’t something Shane could simply command to fly toward a specific destination.

This vessel was completely different.

It was fast.

It was relatively small compared to the Floating Fortress.

It could fly freely through the sky.

And, most importantly, Merlin could control it.

Shane couldn’t help but smile.

"I hope Fiona can find more inside..."
