Shane, disguised by a Legendary Mask, observed the arrival of a new recruit named Reese. Unlike others recruited through the fog, Reese hailed from a world overrun by demons, not zombies. His specialized skills, including Demonbane Strike and Hunter's Instinct, were noted by a guard, and a mysterious voice in the fog now directs recruits to fight the 'enemies that brought the Apocalypse,' a directive that intrigued Shane.

Reese was escorted into the shelter by Wade, one of Shane’s trusted Super Soldiers.

Wade’s presence was imposing. His armor had wear and tear everywhere, but it just showed how much experience he had.

He didn’t speak much, simply guiding Reese through the bustling halls until they reached a quiet guest room.

Inside, Wade gestured for Reese to sit.

"Wait here. A priest from Eclipse Domain Shelter is coming. Standard procedure."

Reese nodded with his eyes scanning the room.

He wasn’t surprised. In his world, anyone who fought demons was always suspected of corruption.

Moments later, in the portal hall of the Blue Havens shelter, a robed priest stepped through.

His aura was calm as he saw the Warden Units and the Guards within the hall.

They were already expecting his arrival, so nothing was surprising...

Soon, he arrived at the Guest Hall. Without hesitation, he approached Reese, raising a hand glowing with holy light.

"This will be quick..."

The examination was swift. The priest’s mana enveloped Reese, probing for traces of demonic corruption.

After a long silence, the priest lowered his hand.

"There is no corruption," he declared.

"Although he carries demon‑hunting weapons, they are not infused with demonic power. He does not borrow strength from demons to fight them."

Wade gave a curt nod, satisfied. But the priest added, "Still, he lacks holy items. His methods are... unconventional if he really fights demons."

Reese smiled as he heard the priest’s voice...

"I never relied on holy relics. In my world, there were barely any who could use Holy Arts... Even their Holy Blessings last only for a couple of days, so I hunted demons with steel, skills, and my beast companions... Unfortunately, my beast companion is no longer here..."

Reese paused for a moment before he continued.

"Anyway, my blade was forged to pierce demonic hides... My Survivor Skills are also quite decent... I fought them with what I had, not what I wished for."

The priest studied him for a moment, then inclined his head.

"That sounds like a true Apocalypse... Still, your weapons are practical and dangerous. But effective. You should complete a few missions so you can request for special weapons that would work well against Vampires, Dragons, or perhaps, Demons..."

"Missions? Alright... I’ll work hard, Reverent."

With that, the Priest stepped back through the portal, leaving Reese alone with Wade.

Not long after, the door opened again.

Fiona, manager of Blue Haven Shelter under Shane’s orders, entered with two more Super Soldiers at her side.

Her eyes immediately locked onto Reese.

"So, you’re the new recruit," she muttered in a bland but not unkind tone.

"I’m Fiona. I manage this shelter. Shane entrusted me with handling new arrivals."

Reese stood, bowing his head slightly.

"Reese. Demon Hunter."

Fiona smiled at that introduction. It was the first time they heard that after all.

"Demon Hunter. That’s new. Most recruits come from zombie worlds. Tell me... how exactly did you hunt demons? Ahem... I’m just curious about your world..."

Reese was now aware that this was supposedly a Zombie Apocalypse world, so he explained patiently. "I studied them. Their weaknesses, their habits. I learned to sense their presence since corruption leaves trails... and with my Beast Companions, we target Demons that can be killed. My strikes were infused with purified energy, not borrowed power. I carved seals to bind them, resisted their poisons, and fought until they fell. I survived because I adapted. Not because I prayed."

Fiona listened carefully, arms crossed. The Super Soldiers behind her remained silent, but their eyes never left Reese.

Finally, she nodded.

"Good. That means you’re resourceful. We need that here."

She tapped her interface, pulling up assignments.

"You’ll join Hunting Squad 5. Originally, they were a zombie‑hunting unit. But after the Cross Apocalypse, with vampires, dragons, and more, they’ve adapted. You’ll fit in there. You can earn your keep there. But if you don’t want to work as a hunter, that’s also possible. You can work in the dockyard or in the kitchen."

Reese laughed at the suggestion and shook his head.

"I’ll join the Hunting Squad, please... Miss Fiona."

"Understood." Fiona nodded, expecting that Reese would also want to continue hunting.

For now, Shane remained distant, letting Fiona handle the recruit.

Of course, Reese didn’t mind not meeting Shane in the process... He was used to proving himself before meeting leaders.

After the briefing, Reese was given a small room, a fresh set of clothes, and food.

When the tray arrived, he stared at it in disbelief.

"Whoa~"

A steaming bowl of rice, grilled fish seasoned with herbs, and a side of vegetables. A cup of broth accompanied it, rich and savory.

"It’s free for now... But you have to work starting tomorrow."

Reese remembered Fiona’s words.

In his demon‑ravaged homeland, food had been scarce, since it was infected by corruption. Here, the meal was clean, fresh, and almost luxurious.

He ate slowly at first, savoring each bite.

"This is the best..."

The fish was tender, the rice warm, and the broth was also comforting. By the time he finished, he leaned back, astonished.

Soon after, Wade returned to escort him to the Hunting Squad 5 training ground.

Reese followed, taking in the sights of Blue Haven Shelter.

As they walked, he noticed statues of a single figure... a man depicted with blade and shield, standing tall against monstrous foes

. His likeness was carved into gates, fountains, and painted across establishments.

Survivors bowed their heads slightly when passing these images.

Reese frowned beneath his breath as he heard the people talking about it...

Reese didn’t think much of it and accepted the explanation...

They passed through the marketplace, alive with activity.

Merchants shouted prices, children darted between stalls, and the smell of food filled the air.

Soon, Reese’s stomach growled again despite his recent meal.

"Ughh... I want to eat them all." Reese muttered.

He saw pork skewers sizzling over open flames, chicken roasted golden, and seafood laid out in abundance.

Shellfish, crabs, and fish... the bounty of a port town.

Survivors laughed and bargained, their lives vibrant despite the apocalypse.

Reese slowed, tempted to have some food, but Wade shook his head. "You’ll need zombie cores or mana stones if you want to buy. Not regular currency anymore."

Reese sighed.

He had neither.

His world had been different. There was a gold coin in his pocket, but as expected, it wasn’t useful in the Apocalypse.

Here, survival was tied to resources harvested from enemies.

He pushed the hunger aside and continued walking.

Finally, they arrived at the training ground.

Five members of Hunting Squad 5 were training...

As soon as Reese arrived, they eyed him cautiously. They already received a message through Fiona’s rats that they had a new member.

One of them muttered, "A Demon Hunter... It’s really a sign that they’re coming."

Another crossed his arms. "If demons are next, maybe we’ll need him."

"I hope more Demon Hunters will get recruited if that’s really the case."

"Ugh... Nights will be terrifying if Vampires and Demons work together."

"I should’ve applied as a Mech Pilot instead. It’s safer inside that thing."

Reese met their gazes calmly. He understood their concern.

In a world where zombies, vampires, and dragons had already appeared, the possibility of a demonic invasion was real.

His presence was both reassurance that they would know how to fight back and a warning to prepare them for what was to come.

He stepped forward and bowed slightly... "I don’t expect trust immediately. But I survived demons when others fell. If they come here, I’ll be ready. And I’ll make sure you are too."

The squad exchanged glances. Their skepticism softened, replaced by curiosity.

But first, training or sparring was needed before they could cooperate in a hunt...

They needed to know his capabilities...

Reese knew this was his chance to prove himself... not just as another recruit, but as someone chosen by the fog for a greater purpose.

Meanwhile, Shane stepped through the portal into the Eclipse Domain Shelter...

He didn’t head toward his office, barracks, or even his private quarters. Instead, his stride was purposeful, carrying him straight out of the portal chamber and toward Anna’s Laboratory.

Inside, Anna was on break, crouched down as she fed Lucky, her golden retriever.

The dog wagged its tail happily, crunching on the food as Anna looked up...

"Mhmm? You’re here for business, right? Tell me..." she said, pouting slightly with her teasing voice.

Shane froze as he was caught off guard.

He had come intending to ask her to prepare more Super Soldier Serum to deal with the growing problems among the elves.

But faced with her playful expression, he shook his head quickly.

"No... not this time," he replied, raising his hand.

From his storage, he revealed a small vial containing what seemed like glitter...

They were Fairy Dust, collected from Axis.

The particles glowed softly, scattering light across the room.

Anna’s eyes widened, her pout vanished instantly... "Fairy Dust? From Axis herself?"

Shane nodded. "I thought you’d want to see this first."

Lucky barked once while wagging its tail, as if sensing the importance of the moment...
