Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle Chapter 1179: The Site and the Storm

The clearing fell into silence once more, the ground now covered with the ashes of fallen imps.
The Grail’s radiance faded, yet its ethereal presence lingered, a gentle warmth permeating the desolate area. It felt like the residual pulse of holy power echoing within the ruins. Shane let out a sigh, lowering his hand, but Natalie’s words suddenly resurfaced in his mind.
If a gate existed here, then Gate Stones must be nearby.
"Natalie," Shane inquired, lowering his voice, "Can you pinpoint the Gate Stones you mentioned? It’s alright even if they are significantly damaged."
Shane was acutely familiar with these artifacts.
He had already utilized several to establish connections between nearly all the shelters under his command.
However, two remained unconnected due to a shortage of stones to complete the network. The discovery of more, even damaged ones, offered a glimmer of hope. Once they returned to the mainland, with the assistance of Elandor, the Archmage and legendary elf renowned for his mastery in repairing and re-energizing such relics, Shane believed restoring them would be possible.
Natalie, having been Shane’s business associate, was also aware of these crucial gate stones.
She began scanning the rubble, recalling the faint impressions of their energy signature. Raising her staff, she announced,
"I've got it… they should be around this area."
The team dispersed, meticulously searching amidst the devastated remnants.
Presently, Layla’s telekinetic abilities shifted a mound of debris, uncovering a faintly luminous stone half-buried in the earth. Lysandra knelt beside it, gently clearing away the accumulated moss and dust.
"This one appears intact… though its energy is diminished, feeling quite drained," she observed.
One by one, the others unearthed additional stones.
Three Gate Stones remained whole, their surfaces marred by cracks but still recognizable, emitting faint energy pulses. Scattered around them were about a dozen shattered fragments… clearly remnants of Gate Stones destroyed long ago.
Shane’s eyes gleamed as he surveyed the findings.
"Three intact stones… even in their weakened state, this is excellent news. And the fragments… Elandor might be able to reforge them. This could be exactly what we need to finally complete the network."
The rest of the team clustered around him, their satisfaction mirroring Shane’s newfound optimism after the recent battle.
While the Holy Power had reduced most of the Imps to ash, leaving little to loot, a few usable remnants remained.
Natalie lowered her staff, her gaze sweeping across the surroundings.
"At least we understand why the imps were present here. They were likely guarding their gate, preventing anyone from claiming it," she surmised.
Shane nodded thoughtfully, his gaze fixed on the desolate clearing. The lingering ash, the ruined structures, the faint traces of demonic energy… this was no random occurrence.
Someone had orchestrated this to summon Demons, or perhaps, the System was behind it all… Even the cult that worshipped the zombies could be involved!
"This is about more than just imps," he stated in a low tone. "Consider this: we chose the Zombie Outbreak upon our arrival. Then came the Cross of Vampires, Dragons from the mythical realms. And now…" He gestured towards the Gate Stones and their fractured pieces.
"Now, we face the Demon Invasion. Another apocalypse option we managed to sidestep, yet it has manifested regardless."
A hush fell over the team.
Tundra murmured, "So, all the potential apocalypses are converging into this world. One after another. Zombies, vampires, dragons… and now demons. What’s next?"
The possibilities loomed: the Magic War, Ragnarok, an Alien Invasion, an A.I. Rebellion, or even a Fairy Realm Collision.
Chaloem had been privy to this unfolding situation for some time.
As a monk, he had formed alliances with numerous Foreign Survivors, gaining insights into Earth’s history and the Apocalypse Options they had previously encountered.
"The world is no longer confined by choice. All paths are merging," he intoned, his voice resonating with a profound, newfound understanding of the current Apocalypse.
Natalie tightened her grasp on the Grail before returning it to her inventory.
"Then we will require every resource, every shelter, and every ally. If the Demon Invasion has commenced, this island is merely the beginning."
Shane glanced again at the Gate Stones, a determined nod following.
"Indeed… We will secure and repair them. Once the shelters are linked, our defenses will be significantly more robust."
Following this, they proceeded to collect the remaining loot from the Imps scattered about.
Kai initiated his looting process normally, contemplating whether employing his five-times loot multiplier would be worthwhile.
[ Do you want to retrieve the loot? ]
"Yes…"
The notifications appeared in rapid succession.
[ You have earned 120 Experience Points. ]
[ Loots obtained: Item Upgrade Crystal x1, Demon Core x1, Imp Horn (Uncommon) x1, Imp Wing Membrane (Common) x1, Spirit Enhancement Bottle x1, Minor Mana Elixir x1, Ashen Cloth (Common) ]
"Hmm? I suppose it’s not too bad," Shane commented softly, examining the horn and the cloth he had acquired.
[ Imp Horn ( Uncommon ): A horn possessed by an Imp. Though diminutive, it emanates faint traces of demonic energy. Its fragile composition renders it unsuitable for direct engagement, but it holds potential for refinement into talismans or as a component in crafting.
Effects: +5% resistance against minor demonic curses.
Special Effects: When coupled with Demon Cores, the horn’s latent power can be unleashed, yielding superior crafting outcomes. ]
[ Ashen Cloth ( Common ): A length of fabric discovered after an Imp's departure. Brittle and subtly warm upon touch, it offers no direct combat utility but can be incorporated into basic tailoring or alchemy formulas. It retains residual demonic elements, making it valuable for experiments focused on purification or warding. ]
"Well... They’re probably the weakest ones from the Demon Invasion Apocalypse," Shane commented, his gaze falling upon the other common item.
[ Imp Wing Membrane ( Common ): A delicate, leathery shard from an Imp’s wing. Fragile and nearly transparent, it contains faint hints of demonic residue but is too weak for use as armor. Primarily utilized as a minor crafting component. Suitable for basic alchemy or tailoring recipes. ]
These items were not substantial, yet Shane resolved to employ his looter pocketwatch...
[ Stylish Looter Pocketwatch: A treasure hunter's and plunder-king's ultimate tool.
Effect: Upon activation, all acquired loot experiences a fivefold increase.
Usage Limit: Five activations daily. ]
He then decided to expend all five available activations, and with that action, he acquired a considerable amount of Demon Cores along with several items.
Following this, they continued their reconnaissance.
The team advanced further into the dilapidated structures, their footsteps echoing against the ash and shattered stone.
"I can still detect residual traces of Demonic Energy," Natalie observed quietly.
Indeed, a subtle demonic energy persisted, subtly guiding them toward a concealed objective.
Before long, they discovered a clearing that stood distinct from the others.
"This... It has the feel of a ritual site," Travis remarked, having encountered numerous such sites previously.
The ground was adorned with peculiar engravings, symbols meticulously carved into stone slabs in an inscrutable language.
Intersecting circles formed intricate patterns, appearing to throb faintly despite the absence of any active energy flow.
Surrounding the area were broken pillars, each bearing etchings that none of them could identify.
Layla narrowed her eyes as she surveyed the markings.
"These are not naturally occurring. Someone deliberately carved them... and it wasn't long ago. Someone was here."
Shane concurred. "This is a place of summoning. Whether for demons or cultists, it was utilized to call something forth."
"It might be linked to the imps... or perhaps the cult that venerated the zombies. Regardless, it poses a significant danger," Natalie added.
Shane knelt and ran his fingers lightly over one of the engravings.
"We cannot afford to leave this intact. If it connects to the Demon Invasion, it could be reactivated."
His implication was clear, and the team unanimously agreed.
Collectively, they commenced the task of dismantling the ritual site.
Layla utilized telekinesis to dismantle the stone slabs, Shinja shattered the pillars with his Stormblade, and Tundra strategically placed explosives that reduced the carvings to mere fragments.
Elsa and Lily cleansed the remnants with powerful streams of water and wind, while Chaloem and Travis’ Clone ensured that not a single trace of the engravings remained.
As the dust subsided, the ritual site was reduced to utter devastation.
"That was swift..." Shane murmured with a slight smile.
The markings were eradicated, the engravings obliterated, and the faint echoes of demonic energy finally dissipated.
"Excellent. Whatever this was, it shall not be employed again."
Natalie nodded in agreement. "Then let's make our return. We have accomplished enough here."
The group retraced their path, moving back through the dense woodland until the dockyard came into view once more.
The ships were still present, their defenses resolute under Mystra’s vigilant command. A wave of relief washed over the team as they re-embarked.

Night had descended by then, and after a modest meal, Shane convened everyone, announcing their decision. "We will remain here at the dockyard for the night. At first light, we will set sail anew. Tomorrow, we resume our quest for the true Eden Island."
The crew concurred with the plan. Barricades were erected, and watch rotations were promptly established. Even the dragons maintained their vigilant patrol in the skies above the ships, ever watchful.
In this manner, the survivors settled in for the night, harboring the hope that the Demon Invasion had been temporarily subdued.
Regrettably, mere moments after most of them succumbed to sleep... a furious tempest descended!
