Yang Wei remained silent. Witnessing Hai Li begin his excavation, she promptly trailed after him, setting her basket down to start digging for clams as well.

“What are you doing here?” Even a youngster like Hai Xiaoyao could instinctively feel that something was amiss.

“Don’t you people rarely come out to the sea?” Hai Ling’er paused her digging, her brow furrowed in a frown as she looked at them.

“It’s a coincidence, just a coincidence, hehe.” Hai Li gave a dry chuckle and rubbed his nose, continuing his work without stopping.

“How frustrating!” Hai Xiaoyao snapped, appearing to have lost all his enthusiasm for the task.

Ignoring them completely, Hai Li and Yang Wei kept digging right next to the group.

“Ye Feng, why don’t we move to a different spot?” It was clear that Zhuang Xiaoqiao despised the couple. She stopped her work and turned her gaze toward Ye Feng.

Ye Feng acted as though he were weighing the options before nodding. “Fine. Besides, razor clams aren’t exactly high-tier seafood. It’s no big loss if we don't find them.”

“Let’s head elsewhere and track down some more valuable catches.”

After saying this, he stood up and began to walk away.

Zhuang Xiaoqiao and Hai Xiaoyao followed his lead immediately.

Hai Ling’er, however, seemed reluctant. She glanced at the shore, then at Hai Li and his wife, before eventually catching up with Ye Feng and the others.

“Hehe, you’re incredibly sharp, wife. I can't believe you thought of this.” Once Ye Feng and his companions had departed, Hai Li looked at Yang Wei with a gleeful expression.

“As expected, following them is the easiest way to locate a treasure trove.”

“What’s more, as soon as we showed up, they immediately lost their nerve and abandoned this prime spot to us.”

Yang Wei watched the retreating figures of Ye Feng and Zhuang Xiaoqiao, her voice dripping with contempt. “Those city folk are too soft; they have no idea how precious a beach full of razor clams actually is.”

“They think they can just find seafood more expensive than razor clams? What a joke.”

“If it were that simple to just pick up high-value seafood from the shore, every person in this village would be a millionaire by now!”

“Exactly, exactly.” Hai Li joined in with a sinister laugh. “With them gone, this entire stretch of beach is ours.”

“The clam that city boy pulled out wasn't just any clam. It looked like a razor clam king, worth at least 150 yuan per catty. If we can haul in dozens of catties today, we’re going to be rich!”

“Honey, dig faster, before they change their minds and come back!”

Hai Li urged his wife and immediately redoubled his efforts with the shovel.

Yang Wei nodded in agreement, throwing herself back into the labor.

Even while walking alongside Ye Feng and Zhuang Xiaoqiao, she had lost her usual spark and remained mostly silent.

Noticing her mood, Ye Feng glanced her way and said with a subtle grin, “Are you still upset that we walked away from that treasure spot?”

Hai Ling’er bit her lip, her voice tinged with resentment. “It was a great spot; we were actually finding razor clam kings there.”

“That couple showed up after us. By all rights, they should have been the ones to leave.”

Ye Feng simply smiled at her words, offering no immediate defense.

His reaction puzzled Hai Ling’er. “Brother Ye Feng, why are you smiling?”

“Did I say something wrong?”

Ye Feng shook his head, his smile widening. “You’re right. But what if I told you that I planned this on purpose?”

“Huh?” Hai Ling’er froze in her tracks, stunned. “Brother Ye Feng, you did this on purpose?!”

“But why?” Hai Xiaoyao asked, scratching his head in total confusion.

Only Zhuang Xiaoqiao seemed to catch on to the scheme, looking at Ye Feng with curiosity. “Is there a hidden motive?”

Ye Feng reached out and gently patted Zhuang Xiaoqiao’s head. “Xiaoqiao is the one who truly gets me.”

“The truth is, aside from the razor clam king I already pulled up, there are barely two or three left on that entire beach.”

“Hai Li and Yang Wei can dig until their shovels catch fire today, but they won't find anything of value.”
