Zhou Ping and Mo Yaoyao are both miserable due to their recent estrangement. Zhou Ping avoids calling Mo Yaoyao to prevent pressuring her, but finds himself unable to reach out. Meanwhile, Mo Yaoyao's roommates notice her distress. At a gathering, Zhou Ping confides in his friends about his inability to connect with Mo Yaoyao, expressing frustration that his attempt to avoid pressure might be causing her more worry.

Xue Yan found himself caught between amusement and exasperation, stating, “I advised you against pushing things, but I never suggested completely cutting off contact or avoiding her altogether.”

Si Yan took a slow sip of his red wine, remarking, “You’re in trouble now; your little girl must be heartbroken.”

“Damn it!” Zhou Ping cursed under his breath.

Song Yun chimed in, “Hurry and go find Yaoyao, explain everything to her, and she won’t be sad anymore.”

Zhou Ping snatched up the suit jacket draped over a chair and dashed out.

Yu Zi watched Zhou Ping vanish in a blur and quipped, “Love truly blinds people. He’s still going on blind dates, completely oblivious that he’s actually in love with her.”

Jiang Yue’s lips curved into a knowing smile. “He’ll come to his senses eventually. Yaoyao has her own reasons for her actions anyway; let them navigate their own path.”

Though Zhou Ping drove at a swift pace, by the time he arrived at the entrance of University S, the clock had already struck 8:30 PM. First-year students were still engaged in their evening self-study sessions.

With prior knowledge of Mo Yaoyao’s classroom location, Zhou Ping proceeded directly there.

Mo Yaoyao was the sole female student in her class and not particularly tall. She occupied a seat in the front row, making her immediately visible to Zhou Ping as he approached the classroom door.

However, a male classmate was leaning in close, nearly touching heads with Mo Yaoyao as they conversed in hushed tones. While it was a perfectly ordinary sight, Zhou Ping inexplicably felt a surge of intense anger, a primal urge to rip the boy’s head off and send it flying.

Students in the back rows happened to notice Zhou Ping standing by the rear entrance and felt an unexplainable shiver. “Why does senior look so intimidating today?” they silently wondered. Despite their unease, they offered polite greetings, “Senior.”

Mo Yaoyao’s body stiffened upon hearing the greetings.

Even without hearing Zhou Ping call her name, she instinctively knew he had arrived.

She felt as though she deserved this, but reflecting on the past fortnight, her eyes began to prickle with unshed tears. Nevertheless, she fought to keep them at bay, determined not to let anyone perceive her distress.

It was only when Mo Yaoyao turned her head that Zhou Ping gestured subtly towards the outside, signaling her to meet him after their evening self-study concluded.

Mo Yaoyao gave a slight nod, and Zhou Ping departed.

Once outside the academic building, Zhou Ping’s mind remained fixated on the image of their heads together, leaving him utterly irritable and with a craving for a cigarette. Yet, this was a university campus, and more importantly, his little girl would be emerging soon. He was adamant about shielding her from secondhand smoke, especially given her already frail constitution.

Only after the evening self-study sessions concluded and Mo Yaoyao emerged from the academic building did Zhou Ping’s agitation begin to subside.

His initial intention was to offer an apology. He hadn't meant to break contact for two weeks, but instead, the words that tumbled out were, “That male classmate who was discussing with you just now…”

Even as he spoke, he found himself bewildered as to why he had brought that up.

Mo Yaoyao looked equally puzzled. “What about that classmate?”

“Never mind.” Unable to articulate his thoughts, Zhou Ping immediately dismissed the topic, turning his attention inward for reflection. The apology was paramount. “During this past month, I didn’t mean to neglect you. Please forgive your brother. It was all because your brother Xue Yan mentioned… he said perhaps if I didn’t push too hard, things would be better, and it wouldn’t put too much pressure on you. I’ve always felt like an outsider in this family, and then I misinterpreted his words and failed to keep in touch with you. Throughout that time, I considered calling you or finding you, but suddenly, I didn’t know how to approach you. This is my first experience with such a situation. Please forgive your brother’s inexperience; I promise to do better in the future.”

He then softly inquired, careful not to startle her, “Did you feel sad during this period?”

“Um…” Mo Yaoyao, her head bowed, could no longer hold back her emotions. Being completely honest, tears streamed down her cheeks silently like pearls, her voice a wretched whisper, “I thought you were angry with me, so…”
