Forcing himself to refrain from calling or visiting the little girl at the University, Zhou Ping found himself in a state of utter misery.
A realization dawned upon Zhou Ping: he wasn't intending to cut off contact with Mo Yaoyao permanently. His sole focus was preventing Mo Yaoyao from feeling any pressure. Yet, in his attempt to avoid appearing overly intentional by waiting days to call, he discovered a perplexing truth. With his phone in hand, the ability to initiate a call to Mo Yaoyao had vanished.
Should he manage to connect, what words would he even utter?
Such dilemmas were entirely foreign to him before…
This realization plunged Zhou Ping into an even deeper abyss of despair.
Meanwhile, as Zhou Ping endured his profound agony, Mo Yaoyao was also far from at ease.
Even her close roommate detected the subtle shift in her demeanor.
That very evening, a roommate voiced her observation, "Yaoyao, why hasn't Senior Zhou Ping been calling you these past few days? He used to call every evening, didn't he? If he couldn't reach you, he would contact us instead."
Mo Yaoyao, in the midst of tidying clothes she had dried, paused her movements. After a slight pursing of her lips, she responded in a soft tone, "I made him angry."
"What? How did you manage to anger him?"
Mo Yaoyao simply lowered her head, remaining shrouded in silence.
"Yaoyao, you—" The concerned roommate was about to press further, but another intervened, subtly pulling her aside. With a gesture indicating to cease the questioning, she whispered, "Haven't you noticed how troubled Yaoyao has been these past few days?"
A keener observation would readily reveal that Mo Yaoyao had not been her usual self recently.
While Mo Yaoyao was naturally quiet, her current state amplified this trait, isolating her and creating an aura of not belonging in this world.
An hour later, Mo Yaoyao settled into her bed, lying on her side and facing inward.
Beneath the covers, she switched on her phone, her gaze unfocused. Tears began to silently fall, a stark contrast to the quiet she maintained to avoid alarming her roommates.
It wasn't a belittling of the Zhou family; rather, it stemmed from a deep-seated fear of loss. Now enrolled in university, she knew she would eventually depart from that home. The thought of truly claiming it as her own was a terrifying prospect.

Another gathering commenced amongst their close circle of friends.
Evening descended upon a club, within a private room.
Jiang Yue, Xue Yan, Yu Zi, Si Yan, Song Yun, and others were all in attendance.
"I'm going to perish from misery!" Upon entering, Zhou Ping dramatically collapsed onto the sofa, wailing towards the ceiling.
Xue Yan, positioned closest to him, chuckled, "What's troubling you now? Is it that little girl again?"
Zhou Ping sat up, pouring himself a drink, and exclaimed, "I feel as though my skin is crawling with fleas; it's utterly unbearable! I've completely lost the ability to interact with my little girl!"
"What transpired?" Yu Zi and the others looked on, bewildered.
With a smile, Xue Yan provided a brief explanation of the situation.
Yu Zi chuckled, "Is it truly that serious, simply a matter of not being overbearing?"
"It is absolutely serious! I haven't seen my little girl in nearly half a month! And I haven't exchanged a single word with her!" Zhou Ping's agitation was palpable.
Hearing this, Xue Yan was taken aback. "What occurred? How can it be that you haven't seen or spoken to her in half a month?"
Jiang Yue's brow furrowed slightly. "Behaving in such a manner will only amplify Yaoyao's worries."
Zhou Ping instantly turned his attention to Xue Yan. "Didn't you yourself advise against being forceful? I was merely afraid of burdening her with any pressure, so I hesitated to even make contact. Furthermore, my family essentially entrusted her to my care. By ceasing contact, it implies my entire family shares this sentiment. My parents are unaware of my detachment; they assume everything remains as it was and haven't inquired much. If none of us are pressuring her, she certainly wouldn't feel any strain, would she? Yet now you're suggesting this course of action will cause her to overthink?!!"
