Evolving infinitely from ground zero Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“You must be hungry, my sweet baby. Come here, mommy has some milk for you,” a woman’s soft voice murmured.

In the next breath, Lin Zichen felt a soft warmth pressed against his lips, and he began to suckle by pure instinct.

Being only a little over a month old, his consciousness was present, but only barely. He existed in a state where hunger brought tears and satisfaction brought sleep.

His mind remained mostly a fog, lacking the mental maturity for complex thought.

As he consumed the breast milk, an itching sensation suddenly tickled the inside of his skull, as if his very brain were expanding. Immediately following this, a semi-transparent character panel manifested from the empty air.

[Name: Lin Zichen]

[Age: 33 days]

[Biological Level: Ordinary (Tier 1)]

[Biometric Attributes: None]

Staring at the floating display, a realization finally dawned on Lin Zichen.

He had been transmigrated. He was now a newborn whose brain was still in the middle of development, and he had been granted a ‘golden finger’.

After dwelling on this for a short time, exhaustion overcame him, and he drifted into a heavy slumber.

“The little one fell right asleep after eating his fill; what an enviable life. Mommy hasn’t had a wink of sleep trying to look after you,” the woman whispered, watching the sleeping Lin Zichen with a gaze full of maternal affection.

More than two months slipped by in an instant.

Following this period of growth, Lin Zichen’s awareness had sharpened significantly, granting him the capacity for logical reasoning. Once his mind was functional, his primary focus became investigating his golden finger.

He discovered it was an achievement-based system, and he had already triggered his first objective.

[Achievement: Perform 10,000 kicks]

[Reward: Acquire Biometric Attribute—Use It or Lose It]

[Current progress: 1024/10000]

After checking the status bar, Lin Zichen lay quietly in his crib and began to kick his legs.

“Kicking again, baby?”

“When did you wake up?”

“You’re such a good boy, waking up without a single cry. You really make things easy for mommy,” his mother, Zhang Wanxin, said as she entered the room. Seeing him kicking peacefully in his crib, a smile of relief spread across her face.

Lin Zichen offered her a small smile in return.

Shortly after, his father, Lin Yansheng, walked in with an expectant look on his face.

“The boy is so full of energy and movement; he clearly has a natural gift for physical feats. He’s destined to be a prestigious Genetic Integrator, or at the very least, a Mechanically Modified Human.”

Genetic Integrator? Mechanically Modified Human?

What were those supposed to be?

Lin Zichen knit his brows slightly, sensing that this world was vastly different from his previous one.

Another month passed by unnoticed.

By averaging 300 kicks every day over the last month, Lin Zichen finally hit the 10,000 mark.

[10,000 kicks accumulated, achievement unlocked]

[You have received the Biometric Attribute: Use It or Lose It]

[Use It or Lose It: Provided you exercise a specific body part continuously, that part will evolve and strengthen without limit, though it cannot surpass the fundamental constraints of carbon-based life.]

After reading the description, Lin Zichen immediately started pumping his legs, desperate to test the power of Use It or Lose It.

[You are kicking, Qi-Blood +1, leg strength +1, kicking proficiency +1]

The moment the notification surfaced, a palpable wave of strength surged through his lower limbs. He was secretly ecstatic and increased the intensity of his efforts.

When his legs grew weary, he pivoted to swinging his arms.

[You are waving your arms, Qi-Blood +1, arm strength +1, waving proficiency +1]

Once his arms were spent, he began twisting his torso, engaging every muscle group for a total body workout.

A week passed in this manner. Lin Zichen’s physique had grown notably more robust, allowing him to sit up in his crib unaided, no longer confined to staring at the ceiling.

Typically, infants require seven months to reach the milestone of sitting up, yet he had achieved it at just over four months old.

During the following two weeks, Lin Zichen focused his training on his limbs and rapidly mastered the art of crawling.

[You are crawling, Qi-Blood +1, Body Coordination +1, Crawling Proficiency +1]

To avoid the complications of appearing like a freak of nature, Lin Zichen hid his crawling skills from his parents. He waited until they were asleep at night to sneak out of bed and practice on the floor. He moved faster than the house cockroaches, darting in and out of the shadows with ease.

A month later, he had also taught himself to walk.

[You are walking, Qi-Blood +1, Body Coordination +1, Walking Proficiency +1]

Simultaneously, he used the television news to gather information about his environment. Humanity remained on Earth, but the planet had undergone a mutation, giving rise to terrifying, mysterious creatures known as Exotic Beasts.

To fight back, humans had developed two distinct paths over the decades.

First was genetic modification—merging with Exotic Beast DNA to steal their powers. Second was mechanical ascension—shedding the weakness of flesh for technological superiority. These paths created the Genetic Integrators and the Mechanically Modified Humans.

“This world is incredibly dangerous. I just want to grow up safely, evolve in secret, and avoid any trouble,” Lin Zichen wished fervently.

Half a month later, his walking had become so fluid that he felt he would be running soon. While most babies take a year to walk, he was ready to sprint at only six months old—a staggering lead.

“Six months have flown by. I can probably start crawling in front of my parents now; there’s no need to hide it anymore.”

He decided to reveal his progress. Soon, he began crawling openly.

“Honey, look! Zi Chen is crawling, and he’s so fast!” Zhang Wanxin cried out in astonishment.

Lin Yansheng was equally shocked and filled with pride. “He’s barely six months old and he’s moving like that? Our son is a genius!”

“Ding dong!”

The doorbell interrupted them. Lin Yansheng went to answer it and found the new neighbors, who had moved in a few days prior, standing there with a gift.

Hearing the visitors, Zhang Wanxin scooped up the crawling Lin Zichen and went to greet them. The neighbors were a young couple; the husband held a present, while the wife held a baby girl.

Lin Yansheng accepted the gift and invited them inside. The two families sat down for tea and pleasantries. During their chat, they discovered that the two children were born only a day apart—a striking coincidence.

Sitting on his mother’s lap, Lin Zichen curiously eyed the girl born a day after him. She had large, watery eyes and was quite cute. She looked back at him with equal curiosity, breaking into a radiant smile whenever their eyes met.

Finding the adult conversation dull, Lin Zichen squirmed in his mother’s arms until she took the hint and set him on the floor. Once free, he immediately began his exercise routine.

[You have crawled 10 meters, Qi-Blood +1, Body Coordination +1, Crawling Proficiency +1]

[You have crawled 100 meters, Qi-Blood +10, Body Coordination +10, Crawling Proficiency +10]

[You have crawled 500 meters…]

Lin Zichen moved with lightning speed, scurrying around the living room like a flash. The neighbor woman gasped in shock. “That’s incredible! Your baby is already crawling so well? My Han Han has only just learned how to sit up.”

Seeing her stunned expression, Lin Yansheng and Zhang Wanxin felt a surge of internal pride, basking in the joy of having a prodigy for a son.
