As dusk settled in, Leo Ray came back to the Starfall Royal Court together with Lila, Kira, and the remaining Stone Giants. Right upon reaching the Gate of the Clan Leader’s Castle, a group of on-duty Stone Giant warriors swiftly came forward to greet them.
“Your Majesty, Clan Leader, the envoys from the Throne Corridor have arrived.”
The foremost Stone Giant elder saluted by pressing a hand to his chest, his enormous, furrowed face betraying a hint of anxiety, obviously on guard against the Throne Corridor.
“Why show up at such a moment?”
Hearing those words, Lila furrowed her brows deeply. The excitement that had lit up her face moments ago now turned rigid, while Kira and Payton mirrored her grim look.
Noticing the odd looks on Lila and the rest, Leo Ray gave a small nod, remembering what he knew about the Throne Corridor.
From the details in his possession, it stood as an alliance of Second-tier Powers, focused on pooling their might against top-tier forces, bearing some resemblance to the Rainforest Fortress Alliance and the Desert Alliance.
Yet, in contrast to those two, the bonds between Throne Corridor members remained loose, rife with internal conflicts.
Leo Ray lacked further details, yet the Stone Giants’ reactions made it plain they held no affection for the Throne Corridor.
“Clan Leader, they offered no explanation for their visit, merely saying they needed to see the Clan Leader on urgent business,”
the duty Stone Giant elder inclined his head to Lila and replied, “I’ve had them settled in the Reception Hall already.”
“Thanks for your efforts, I’ll go see them soon.”
Lila first signaled the guards to withdraw, then faced Leo Ray with an apologetic expression, offering an uneasy smile, “Apologies, Your Majesty. I had planned for you to sample our Stone Giants’ exquisite brew, but this unwelcome news cropped up instead.”
“It’s fine, chances will come later.”
With a casual wave, Leo Ray turned to Lila inquisitively, “You all seem to dislike the Throne Corridor envoys quite a bit.”
“Dislike is too mild; we actually loathe them!”
Kira jumped in, her brows twisting fiercely, Payton’s stony gray visage echoing the sentiment.
“Not the spot for discussion—remember, those envoys linger in the Reception Hall; sly bunch they are,”
Lila gave Leo Ray a nod, gestured invitingly, and added, “This way, please, Your Majesty.”
Under Lila and the others’ lead, Leo Ray’s group quickly entered a hidden room inside the castle.
No sooner had Leo Ray sat down in the room, ready to ask for details, than Lila and her companions abruptly knelt before him, crying out together, “Your Majesty, please lead us Stone Giants!”
The startling display stunned not just Leo Ray, but also left Moli, Fei’er, Elder Bing, and Grey Elder utterly baffled.
From earlier remarks by Lila and the group, it was evident the Stone Giants harbored grudges against the Throne Corridor, though none foresaw the animosity running so deep.
“Rise first, then let’s discuss.”
Leo Ray leaned forward to assist Lila to her feet, questioning, “What’s going on here? What ties bind the Throne Corridor to the Stone Giants?”
“To be direct, Your Majesty, the Stone Giants count as part of the Throne Corridor.”
Seated below Leo Ray, Lila drooped her brows while explaining, “Back then, Throne Corridor allies rarely linked up, but if a First-class force tried squeezing us Second-tier Powers, everyone banded together, using every trick to resist those top forces—that was the Throne Corridor’s core goal, safeguarding Second-tier interests.”
“Not just us Stone Giants, but even the distant Half-Titans joined the Throne Corridor. Any time a First-class force pushed into our lands, we’d halt activities until the storm passed.”
After a heavy breath, Lila went on, “Though every First-class force could crush Second-tier and Third-class powers outright, their own rivalries held them back. Plus, with our resource-poor territories short on prime ores and rare treasures, our Throne Corridor unity has kept us largely free from First-class dominance.”
“Over the years, more members joined the Throne Corridor, covering nearly all Outer Region Second-tier Powers. The pattern persisted, boosting its sway among us far beyond just facing First-class foes—to everyday commerce, cultural ties, spells, combat skills, and more.”
“In essence, that’s the gist. Most Second-tier Powers ignore Throne Corridor affairs, joining only when inclined.”
“The Corridor Master role is just a symbolic, rotating honor among Second-tier Powers, and things always ran without a hitch.”
Listening to this, Leo Ray and his companions nodded in contemplation.
