“I am grateful for your loyalty and support.”
Leo Ray exhaled slowly as he looked upon the determined expressions of the catman soldiers standing before him. With this fresh reinforcement, his certainty regarding Sina’s rescue grew significantly stronger.
Feeling a surge of hope, Leo Ray observed Lannis beginning the troop deployment and couldn’t resist asking, “Lord Clan Leader, do you truly place this much faith in me?”
“The fact that you have secured the allegiance of so many Outer Region powers proves that Your Majesty is no ordinary Human,” Lannis replied, maintaining a deep level of respect for Leo Ray. “Furthermore, Your Majesty is the person Emily chose to trust with everything. Despite her playful nature, that girl is cautious and possesses a sharp eye for character. Anyone who earns her confidence naturally earns the trust of the Catman Clan.”
As Lannis finished, the female Elder approached with a furrowed brow. “Clan Leader, by searching the memories of those demon wolf warriors over the past months, we discovered glimpses of Lucas conspiring with the witch demon. However, those soldiers were low-ranking guards on the perimeter; they weren’t privy to the specific terms of the deal Lucas made.”
“It matters not; this evidence is plenty. His Majesty is correct; our priority is the immediate rescue of the leader.”
Lannis signaled with his hand and commanded, “Assemble every available unit nearby to assist His Majesty in our march toward the Holy Land of Medusa!”
Before long, a powerful military force gathered under the night sky outside the grand Catman capital. Through Lannis’s briefing, Leo Ray noted the arrival of twenty Tier 3 Legions and two Tier 4 Legions.
The desert territory of the catmen is vast and complex, filled with scattered outposts and villages. With many soldiers stationed at the borders to guard against rival second-tier powers, these were all the troops that could be mobilized on short notice.
During the preparations, Leo Ray summoned Ice Stone City. Its massive, looming shadow materialized in the darkness, leaving Lannis and his people in a state of shock.
In the hearts of most warriors, only the Shadow Market possessed the right to operate such a magnificent Divine Favor Land left by the gods.
Leo Ray offered a wry smile and signaled for Lannis to lead his army into the city. Normally, he would not reveal Ice Stone City so openly, especially since its current defense was thin—consisting only of ten Tier 3 Human Legions and several exhausted Tier 2 units. However, the urgency of the mission left him no alternative.
Only the instant teleportation capabilities of Ice Stone City would allow them to reach the Medusa Holy Land at maximum speed without being intercepted by the enemy.
Once the army was safely inside, the entire city vanished from its position.
The night deepened as stars shimmered above. When Ice Stone City reappeared, it sat in the very heart of the boundless desert.
From the vantage point of the city walls, Leo Ray saw nothing but a howling sea of sand in every direction. The only exception was a small, solitary oasis nearby that stood out against the dunes.
The oasis appeared entirely natural and serene, devoid of any structures or visible residents.
“Your Majesty, that is the location of the Medusa Holy Land,” Lannis said, pointing toward the greenery. He explained to Leo Ray, “The Medusa cities are built deep beneath the desert sands, interconnected like a massive ant colony. To be precise, our goal lies underground.”
“I see. According to Emily’s intelligence, the entrance to the depths of the Holy Land is right there.”
After a brief survey, Leo Ray pointed to a specific rock formation near a circular lake in the center of the oasis. “Let us move out.”
“A moment, Your Majesty. We desert-catmen have a proverb: the more peaceful a desert location seems, the more lethal the traps it hides.”
Lannis’s ears twitched as he scanned the area with his instincts. He then nodded gravely to Leo Ray. “Your Majesty, please teleport the city forward another hundred meters.”
“Understood.”
Leo Ray nodded and gave a signal to Elder Bing at his side.
In a flash, Ice Stone City shifted positions. Leo Ray was stunned to see that the natural oasis had vanished, replaced by a heavily fortified military stronghold.
“So, the entire scene was masked by an illusion,” Leo Ray remarked.
He frowned as he spotted the massive serpent banners flying from the high walls—the unmistakable crest of the Medusa. The lake he had seen earlier was now hidden behind the fortress walls.
The entire structure was clearly made of enchanted sand, vibrating with faint magical energy. It had been constructed rapidly using a City Building Skill.
“It is no wonder Emily didn't mention this fort; the enemy has been busy making preparations.”
Leo Ray watched the Medusa guards patrolling the battlements, his expression darkening. A direct assault would be necessary to gain entry.
“Your Majesty, since this is a temporary magical construct, it likely lacks a durable Absolute Defense Barrier. If we focus our attacks, we can breach their perimeter without much trouble,” Lannis observed.
He continued his assessment for Leo Ray: “Once the barrier falls, their threat level drops. Judging by the size of this fort, there are likely no more than five Medusa Legions inside, probably without any Tier 4 units. The Tier 4 Legions report directly to Sina, and Belinda’s authority isn't secure enough to command them here.”
“That may be true, Clan Leader, but we arrived in haste and lack heavy siege equipment like Magic Cannons,” the white-haired Grand Elder of the catmen reminded him with a frown. “The Medusa are powerful Magic-Types. While we catmen are superior in physical combat and numbers, we cannot match them in a magical duel.”
Through Lannis, Leo Ray realized this elder held the highest rank among the Catman Clan’s advisors.
“Do not be concerned, Grand Elder. My main army is elsewhere, but I have brought plenty of Magic Cannons, and my elite guard are all mages,” Leo Ray said with a confident smile, looking toward his ready Human troops.
The ten remaining Tier 3 Legions were indeed the most elite Magic Legions of the Human Clan, and they were the primary candidates Leo Ray intended to promote to Tier 4.
However, despite an abundance of rare Magic Medicine, elevating soldiers from Tier 3 One-Star to Tier 4 is a grueling process that takes time. For now, they remained at the peak of Tier 3.
“In that case, we shall rely on Your Majesty’s Magic Cannons and Human soldiers,” Lannis said, nodding firmly as he began coordinating with Leo Ray.
Initially, the catman Grand Elder wanted to warn Leo Ray that standard Human Magic Cannons might be useless, assuming the high-tier weapons were all stationed at the borders. However, his jaw dropped when the Human soldiers swiftly deployed thousands of Tier 3 and higher Magic Cannons.
Such a massive battery of high-level artillery was something usually only seen in the main forces of a Great Alliance.
The discipline of the Human soldiers further shocked the catman officers. These magic units were even more skilled than their own! This was not the "weak" Human race they had heard of, but a formidable force that demanded respect.
“Very well, let’s end this quickly.”
With the formation complete, Leo Ray wasted no time and gave the order to fire.
