Within the luminous hall of Coldflame, Leo Ray observed the Grey Elder’s grim expression and gave a slight nod of encouragement.
“Your Majesty, while the data shared by the Seekers is priceless and has deepened our grasp of the current crisis and the Great Catastrophe, can their testimony be fully relied upon?”
A flicker of anxiety crossed the Grey Elder’s weathered eyes as he pointed out, “They are, after all, tainted by ‘Corrosion,’ making any form of mental probing an impossible task.”
The other powerhouses on our side murmured in agreement, their faces reflecting similar doubts.
In truth, during the earlier parley with the Seekers, Leo Ray had secretly commanded Gideon Black, Dazhuang, and Crisis, alongside two Wood Fairy elders, to attempt a mental inquiry to extract hidden truths from the Seekers' consciousness.
The attempt, however, was futile; the mental structure of ‘Corrosion’ shared no commonality with the Ten Thousand Clans. It felt like an impenetrable mountain of stone, revealing nothing at all.
To be more exact, they couldn't even lock onto the Seekers to initiate the spells. The Seekers likely remained oblivious or simply didn't care about the intrusion.
Just after the White Knight took his leave, Gideon Black, Dazhuang, Crisis, and the rest had already delivered their reports of failure.
“The concerns of the Old Council Leader are well-founded. However, we must remember that much of what the Seekers revealed was already suspected by us; their words merely served as validation,” Leo Ray explained.
Leo Ray offered a reassuring smile to the Grey Elder, adding, “Furthermore, the Seekers lack any motive to deceive us.”
Upon hearing Leo Ray’s reasoning, the group began to nod as they contemplated his words.
The Lord’s logic was sound; there was no strategic benefit for the other side to play games. If ‘Corrosion’ truly consumes the world, the only remaining path for everyone is total annihilation.
As this realization settled in, the tension in the room spiked, leaving many present feeling adrift and uncertain.
“Do you all recall the monumental objective the Hero King entrusted to the Mercenary Guild long ago?”
Sensing the growing dread, Leo Ray shifted the conversation, saying, “The mission was to locate the cataclysm rift—a goal that led the Old Council and its members to scout almost every corner of the Human Domain.”
“Your Majesty, that is precisely the matter I wished to address next.”
The Grey Elder stroked his long white beard thoughtfully. “Based on our current intelligence, is it possible that this cataclysm rift is actually a fracture within the Magic Barrier?”
“That is the only logical conclusion.”
Leo Ray confirmed the Grey Elder’s theory, continuing, “The Seekers claimed the Magic Barrier might fail at any moment, but I suspect that even if it cracks, it won't vanish entirely. It will likely resemble a breach in a City Wall, as the Magic Barrier is a divine construct of the Deity.”
“A creation of the Deity?! Lord, how did you come by this knowledge?”
Shirley’s pale face was masked in shock as the question escaped her lips.
“The deduction is actually quite straightforward.”
After a brief nod, Leo Ray began to outline his recent theories regarding the “Prompting Voice.”
Since Leo Ray had previously disclosed the Divine Revelation he received and the three inquiries he made to the “Prompting Voice,” the core members of the group quickly grasped the weight of his statement.
“I see... so the ‘Prompting Voice’ was actually the catalyst for the Great Catastrophe? But what reason could a Deity have for orchestrated such an event?”
The shock on Shirley’s face deepened, a sentiment mirrored by everyone else in the room.
“That is a mystery I am desperate to solve as well, as it is surely tied to the secrets of the Era of Blankness. Unfortunately, we lack the clues to investigate further right now.”
With a piercing gaze, Leo Ray continued, “However, knowing that the breach in the Magic Barrier made by the ‘Prompting Voice’ will only result in gaps rather than a total collapse gives us a fighting chance against ‘Corrosion.’”
“This old servant finally understands Your Majesty’s plan!”
The Grey Elder nodded in realization. “It aligns with Your Majesty’s previous directives! If we can identify where these fractures in the Magic Barrier will manifest—the cataclysm rifts from the Hero King’s quest—we can reinforce those locations or seal them. By doing so, we can prepare our defenses and block the ‘Corrosion’ before it floods our world!”
Following the Grey Elder’s explanation, the remaining experts who had been confused were suddenly struck by a wave of clarity.
The prospect of fighting the seemingly unstoppable ‘Corrosion’ from every direction had left them feeling powerless.
