Following an examination, medical professionals diagnosed her condition as amnesia, stemming from a three-month coma.
Afterward, the doctors vacated the room, instructing a nurse to retrieve Xie Ming's CT and MRI scans to corroborate their diagnosis.
Zhao Ming, intending to inquire further into Yu Mei's life, was interrupted as the door suddenly burst open with a resounding boom.
"Bang"
Her attention shifted to the entrance, where a man in a gray checked formal suit came into view.
His physique was impeccably sculpted and maintained, and his face resembled a masterfully carved work of art, possessing a toned, fair complexion and a sharply defined jawline.
His dark, enigmatic eyes fixed on her, radiating an icy coldness.
His intense gaze sent a shiver down her spine. His eyes, as frigid as Ji Cheng's, met hers as he advanced towards her in long, decisive strides.
Liwei, upon entering the room, observed her seated on the hospital bed, appearing pale and frail. His eyes flickered slightly as he noticed her peculiar stare.
'Why is she looking at me as if she's never seen me before? Is this some new act?'
Irritated by her gaze, he approached her and spoke in a voice as cold as ice, "So you've finally awakened, Ms. Xie." He let out a scoff.
She regarded him with a bewildered expression and inquired, "Who are you? Do I know you?"
He was initially taken aback by her words, but a wry smile then curved his lips as he responded in a chilling tone, "Hah. So this is your new ploy to vex me. Let me be clear, Xie Ming, I will not let you off the hook this time. I demand a divorce. I cannot continue living with someone like you, who prioritizes only herself."
"You claim to love me, but what actions have you taken to demonstrate that love? I know you only married me because of your dying grandfather's wish, just as I did to fulfill my grandfather's desire."
"However, I at least made an effort to maintain peace in this marriage, but what did you do? You only pursued your own desires, showing no regard for my family or anything else. Your days were filled with shopping and partying."
"Let's be candid. You didn't marry me out of love, but rather for the status of being Mrs. Jin, correct? Yet, I have no desire to remain in this marriage with you."
"Therefore, just sign these divorce papers, and we can go our separate ways. I will provide you with alimony and a house post-divorce. You can live out your days in peace without any financial concerns. You won't be at a disadvantage if we divorce," he stated, tossing the divorce papers towards her.
The papers struck her face, causing a sensation of pain, yet she maintained her composure.
His words grated on her nerves, but she was determined not to reveal her vulnerability to him.
She was, after all, the Empress of the Ji Dynasty, and he was merely an ordinary man who had barged into her room and begun berating her.
Despite this, she could not voice her protest, as she was inhabiting Xie Ming's body and had to confront the repercussions of Xie Ming's past actions.
If a divorce was inevitable, then so be it. She was no longer the same Ming who would do anything for the Emperor's affection.
Having faced a near-death experience, she had undergone significant personal growth.
Her gaze fell upon the documents before her, and she frowned upon noticing they were written in an unfamiliar script.
The divorce papers were in English, a language she could not comprehend.
"You attempted suicide by jumping into the pool, despite not knowing how to swim. Were you seeking my sympathy with this act, hoping I wouldn't divorce you? Hah. If that was your intention, then I regret to inform you, Ms. Xie Ming, that you are mistaken."
"You might deceive Grandpa, but you cannot fool me." With that, he gestured towards the divorce papers and commanded coldly, "Sign them."
He anticipated her tears and a plea to refuse the divorce, perhaps even a threat to inform Grandpa, but he was resolute this time.
He was convinced that she did not love him but coveted the status of being Mrs. Jin. She was nothing more than a callous, materialistic woman, both stubborn and arrogant.
He had exerted considerable effort to make the marriage work, but she constantly suspected him of infidelity and frequently quarrelled with him over trivial matters.
Living with her had become an unbearable ordeal.
Consequently, he resolved to seek a divorce, and this time, he was unwavering in his decision.
A mere failed suicide attempt could not sway his resolve.
Xie Ming, staring blankly at him, finally comprehended that he was the husband of the girl, Xie Ming, whose body she now occupied.
However, the situation remained perplexing.
'Why does it seem, from Liwei's words, that Xie Ming was responsible for their marriage's downfall? And who would attempt to end their life simply to garner sympathy?'
'I recall my own demise involved drowning in a pond. Yet, I knew how to swim; why was I unable to reach safety then?' The more she pondered it, the stranger it felt.
Lost in contemplation, she remained unaware as Liwei observed her features from his vantage point.
A frown creased his brow, his mind engaged in deciphering the situation. Unlike the usual Xie Ming, she offered no resistance nor raised her voice; instead, she was absorbed in her own silent reflections.
This was not typical Xie Ming behavior.
