Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 2048: Lost Sun

Silvana sat down on a cloud as if it were a pillow, her gaze fixed on the pond in front of her.
“What do you see in that pond?” The Lost Sun asked, pointing at the water’s surface.
Strangely enough, the floating moon wasn’t reflected in the pond. It was as if it weren’t even there.
Silvana narrowed her eyes as she stared intently into the pond. She decided it must be a test, that she was supposed to see something special, but all she saw was her own reflection, just like in any other pond.
“Just… It’s just my reflection here…” Silvana muttered uncertainly.
The Lost Sun waved his hand.
“Come closer. Right now, I can only see your head. Stand up straight.”
Silvana didn’t argue and did as he said. She sensed the weight of his words, not only because this was his space, but also because this boy was, in fact, a very ancient artifact.
He and the Moon Colosseum had survived at least several World Wipes under the protection of Queen Elisa. They were decades older than Silvana, even accounting for how long it took artifacts to develop a mind and will.
Step.
Silvana stepped forward, stopping at the very edge of the pond, but nothing changed.
“I see… I see my reflection.”
“Indeed.”
The Lost Sun nodded as his finger curled.
At that very moment, Adam appeared on the opposite side.
“W-What?” Silvana’s eyes widened in disbelief.
The Lost Sun blinked, his expression remaining calm.
“Don’t worry, it’s just an illusion. It won’t be an exact representation of Adam, but at least the power of his flame will be on par with a real Adam Vinter.”
Silvana didn’t understand what the Lost Sun was talking about, but soon she understood everything.
A powerful stream of fire surged from Adam’s figure, not the one sitting on the cloud, but the one reflected in the pond.
Compared to Silvana, who didn’t even have a tiny spark, it looked like a cold piece of coal lying before the bright sun.
“As you can see, there’s a significant difference between you two.”
The Lost Sun glared at Silvana. His eyes seemed to look straight into her soul.
“You’re a smart woman. You should have already realized that I’m not talking about Adam’s power or talent. That flame reflects his will, his desires, and his raw instincts. I can see just how talented he is as a fighter.”
The Lost Sun pointed at Silvana.
“You… You’re not cut out for battle, just like most people, at least not right now.”
Silvana gulped. It sounded like a verdict, but Silvana wasn’t about to give up. She understood that if the Lost Sun had accepted her here, it meant she still had a chance to set things right.
“Can that be changed?”
Fortunately for her, the Lost Sun nodded deeply.
“Yes. I first noticed Adam a little over two years ago. As you know, it happened the moment he killed a monster outside the Citadel and received a Spark. I saw his flame, his talent, when he became a Phantom.”
Silvana was silent for a while as she pondered what she had heard. Something struck her as odd.
“Wait… Are you saying you can see the Sparks in people? Then why do the government and scientists use the Spark Seekers to find new Phantoms?” She was confused.
She knew what had happened to Adam at Morton Observatory and at the tar lake. It had been a terrible incident, but it marked the beginning of Adam’s journey.
The Spark Seekers were rare monsters, and the only sure way to determine whether a person had a Spark or not was through them. In most cases, this was the sole factor in deciding whether a person could become a Phantom or not.
There was an alternative, and Adam had taken that alternative path, but only one in a thousand ordinary people could kill a monster and become a Phantom that way.
Most ordinary people hoped that at least someone in their family would develop a Spark, so that there would be a Phantom among them.
“No.”
The Lost Sun shook his head.
“I can only see talent. I don’t know if a person can awaken the Evolution Tree within themselves or not. I told you this so you’d understand that even if your flame isn’t there right now, it’s not the end.”
He turned to Silvana.
“Adam wasn’t always like this. When he killed the monster and became a Phantom, he not only gained his first abilities and energy, but he also discovered his talent. Before that, he didn’t have such a strong desire to fight and win, but after he survived a hopeless situation and received his well-deserved reward, he changed dramatically.”
The Lost Sun pointed at Adam, from whose reflection a powerful stream of fire continued to pour forth.
“His flame wasn’t always this strong. After every hard-fought victory, after the many wounds he sustained during his clashes, his flame grew. He wanted to win, and his will and instincts responded to that desire.”
For a moment, The Lost Sun’s eyes flashed as he looked at Silvana, whose face was filled with fear.
“Right now, Silvana, you cannot become Adam’s Manifest Nexus. You’re not strong enough for that. I’m not talking about your power level, but about your will.
“And… there’s something else you need to know.”
Silvana’s lips trembled.
“What are you talking about? Tell me… I’m ready to accept anything.”
The Lost Sun lowered his head, deep in thought.
After a few moments, he nodded before waving his hand once more.
Another figure appeared beside Adam.
Silvana recognized him immediately. Reflected in her eyes was a tall man with long blue hair and predatory green eyes. Her eyes were green, too, but the difference between them was like that between a rabbit and an eagle.
“As far as I know, you call him the Silver Weaver, right?”
Silvana gulped.
“Y-Yes.”
The Lost Sun nodded.
“The thing is, Silvana, that he… he’s a much better fit for the role of Adam’s weapon than you are.”
