Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1973: No One Knew
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Adam didn’t know that a True Lord, a monster capable of reducing him to nothing with a single wave of its hand, was heading straight for him right now.
Well, he had other things on his mind right now, as he was already flying over Island A205. It would take no more than half an hour to reach Island A215, but at his current speed, it was quite possible he’d get there much faster.
"I don’t know if the Veiled Souls Clan is ready to attack Breydar or if they’re doing it right now, but I think I’ll be able to figure out what to do based on the situation. Given what I’m capable of now, I’ll be able to defeat them."
Adam felt quite confident about this after his battle against Midgar, but something still troubled him.
From the very moment he left the Grand Abyss, no... even before that, he’d sensed that something was wrong.
’The Befallen Crown wants to kill me. To do so, they even sent a multitude of Lords to the Grand Abyss. I had to fight a Viscount to survive, and I managed to win. But... Ergander said they’re not going to stop, and I understand that, too.’
Silvana stayed by his side, as always. She was worried about him and knew what he was thinking.
"Do you think they’ll up the ante?"
Adam gave a wry smile.
"Well... I’m sure of it. I mean, what would you do if you were on their side? The one you’re trying to kill survives every time and only gets stronger."
His gaze grew heavier.
"First it was the Elders, then the Barons, and in the end I had to fight a Viscount. I think everyone understands that a Viscount from the Befallen Crown must be stronger than other Viscounts."
Silvana was silent for a moment before nodding deeply.
"I see. By that logic, they must realize now that this is their last chance to kill you. If you become a Second-Rank Phantom, they won’t be able to just send a random Lord to deal with you, right?"
She continued:
"A Viscount failed at this task, which means they have no choice but to send an Earl. What’s more, you’re even stronger now than you were at the Grand Abyss. So..." She bit her lip. "Damn... They might take a risk and send an Ascended Lord."
Adam nodded.
"Yes. I’ve been thinking about that, too."
He was currently above Island A207.
"If someone like Ergander or Blafor comes after me, I won’t stand a chance against them. Then again, the same goes if an Earl attacks me. Right now, the highest-ranking opponent I can handle is a Viscount, and that’s it."
Silvana grew wary. This wasn’t good news for them. She knew what had to be done.
"You need to finish up here with Breydar and return to the Citadel immediately. I didn’t want to tell you this ahead of time, but given our situation, it’s necessary."
"Hmm?" Adam raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"The Silver Weaver and I think there’s another anchor, the fifth one. We think we’ll be able to find out where to get it at the Citadel. Also, we’re certain the Frenzied Flame hasn’t been activated, so you’ll have to go to the Hollow Lands once again."
Adam listened to her carefully, without interrupting.
"The situation is serious, and if it weren’t for your promise to Farla, I’d prefer that you return to the Citadel right now, but I understand you won’t do that. So, go and kill them all, Adam, and I’ll help you with that."
"Huh. You know, at the very beginning of our journey, it would have been impossible to hear something like that from you."
She smirked.
"A lot has changed since then. But seriously. You have to deal with Breydar and the Veiled Souls Clan before the Befallen Crown makes a decision and sends some Ascended Lord here to kill you. It would be foolish to end it all like that."
"I know." Adam nodded as his expression grew more serious.
He flew over an island with an unusually shaped lake that vaguely resembled the number A212.
"I’m almost there."
Adam had no intention of fighting all the Lords at once. He and Breydar would split them up, at least, that was Adam’s plan.
Sure, this was a bad turn of events for Breydar, but did he really have a choice? He would either have to fight the entire clan squad or fight half of them and then face Adam.
If Breydar wanted to survive, he’d have to be stronger than all of them, and considering he’d only recently become a Viscount, the chances of that were slim.
...
After everything they’d learned and everything that had happened, Adam and Silvana had come to the conclusion that the Befallen Crown would try to kill him at any cost before it was too late.
But although their assumption was generally correct, they underestimated just how serious the Befallen Crown was this time.
Adam and Silvana thought that, in the worst-case scenario, in a few hours, the Befallen Crown would send an Ascended Lord to hunt him down.
In reality, a True Lord had already swept through most of the world and was heading straight for the Gray Sea.
The entry point for this Lord would be an area somewhere between the Hollow Lands and the Tarnished Lands.
This was no accident, but a deliberate choice.
The True Lord did not want the leader of the Renegades or the strongest Lords of the Hollow Lands, such as Kaerno, to interfere with him. After all, although he was a True Lord, he was not the strongest among them.
Thus, he would be able to pass between the two territories, advance deep into the Gray Sea, and then turn and head straight toward Adam.
Unfortunately for this Lord, neither he nor the Befallen Crown knew that this time, the Citadel was acting just as quickly.
Splash.
A figure of medium height emerged from the dark rift, appearing in the middle of the Light Field.
"Mhaaaa!"
The girl stretched her arms upward with a wide yawn, as if waking from a long sleep.
"Ah... It’s so bright in here. Well, Adam Vinter, you’ll owe me for what I’m going to do for you."
