Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1938: Wings are a weapon
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
With great difficulty, Midgar managed to survive Adam’s attack, which was filled with Dark Energy. Midgar expended a great deal of energy in the process and was seriously wounded, but Adam was in the same situation.
Midgar was physically far superior to him, as they were on different levels. Thus, every wound, every cut Adam received from Midgar, was a serious problem for Adam.
Now that Midgar understood Adam’s strengths and weaknesses and had outmaneuvered his trump card, he finally had a real chance to win.
SPLASH!
A stream of blood spurted upward as the wide blade plunged straight into Adam’s shoulder.
His eyes widened in searing pain as Midgar pressed down harder on his poleaxe.
"This is the end, Adam! After this, it’ll all be over!" Midgar growled like a beast, trying to end it all right then and there.
At the very least, Midgar intended to chop off Adam’s left arm, and he was confidently moving toward that goal. The poleaxe had already sunk deep enough to touch Adam’s bone.
Adam’s eyes widened as he realized that if he didn’t do something now, he would lose this fight. It was inevitable. If Midgar took one of his arms, their fight would be over.
"I have to stop him!" Adam cried inwardly, but soon he remembered something. "No... When we reach the ground, I’ll have my chance. Right now... Right now, I can’t let him keep slashing at my shoulder!"
Tremble!
The black gloves on his hands trembled and vanished, quickly replaced by red ones - his Nexus.
At the same moment, the red threads headed toward Adam’s shoulder, healing his wound while Midgar’s poleaxe was still lodged inside it.
Midgar frowned as he realized what Adam was about to do, but he didn’t have enough strength to resist the red threads.
"Damn it!" Midgar exclaimed, pulling out his poleaxe and knocking Adam aside.
BAM!
With a crash, Adam sank into the ground while Midgar remained suspended in the air.
His energy was rapidly draining as he had expended most of it just to survive the attack of the three black spears. The gray armor that had previously covered his entire body now remained only on his belt and shoulders, gradually disintegrating into particles.
"Gha... Gha... Gha..." Midgar gasped for breath. He had underestimated the consequences of the black spears’ explosion.
’Tsk. I wasn’t able to cut off his arm, but I wasted so much energy because of his attack! The Dark Energy... it hit me harder than I expected.’
At the same time, Adam rose from the ground as the red threads hurriedly healed his wounds. He didn’t try to heal all his bruises or scratches, since the red threads required a great deal of resources.
But he stopped the bleeding from the cut on his chest and stitched up his shoulder so it wouldn’t collapse under its own weight.
"Huh..." Midgar smirked. "Still, I did manage to achieve something. His gaze... It’s changed."
True. Adam no longer looked at Midgar as if he had already won their battle.
Now, he looked at Midgar as a dangerous opponent who, unlike him, had already found the path to victory.
’I thought it would all end with the black spear, but... I underestimated him. If a Baron had been in his place, the spears would have torn him to pieces, but Midgar turned out to be tougher than I expected.’
The truth was that Adam didn’t know what he needed to do to defeat Midgar.
He was physically weaker, and their energy reserves were depleting at roughly the same rate.
’The blue threads... They’re powerful threads, but they’re better suited for defense and for controlling the situation on the battlefield. They aren’t enough to stop Midgar, especially now that he’s learned how to cut through them.’
"Grha..."
Midgar took a deep breath as his blue eyes flashed brightly, causing Adam to grow wary.
All the energy Midgar had left surged into his body as he decided to shed his armor and wings.
Now, he had almost no way to continue the fight, except for one: to keep attacking until he won.
Whooooooosh!
Midgar swept through the air on gusts of wind, gripping his poleaxe tightly as he brought it crashing down on Adam.
Adam’s eyes narrowed as two dense crystal blades appeared in his hands at once. Now, he knew that one would not be enough.
Clash!
A tremor ran through the ground as they collided, while Midgar’s eyes quivered as he stared intently at Adam.
To him, Adam was not just an opponent, but an opportunity to advance to the next stage in the hierarchy of the Befallen Crown. Even for the Lords, this was a rarity.
"Enough fighting! You can’t win! You have nothing left!"
Adam narrowed his eyes as cracks ran across the crystal blades.
"I don’t think so. You saw the red and blue threads, but what about the rest?"
"Agh...?" Midgar was confused, and soon his eyes widened.
Two black wings unfolded on Adam’s back, as the white threads formed a fabric-like base, while the amber clusters gathered energy within themselves.
Usually, Adam used these wings to unleash a barrage of energy rays on his enemy or to significantly increase his speed.
But now he had another idea. Even two blades weren’t enough to stop Midgar’s poleaxe.
"In that case..."
Adam muttered as his wings curved, and their sharp black tips, like the branches of a sacrificial tree, aimed at Midgar.
"Let’s see what you can do against four blades at once."
Before Midgar could even process it, the black tips pierced his chest as blood gushed out.
SLASH!
Adam swung his blades, leaving an X-shaped gash on Midgar’s chest, and he had no intention of stopping there.
"My wings and blades against your axe. Let’s see which one of us breaks first." Adam’s eyes regained their cold gleam.
He made this decision because he realized he didn’t stand a chance against Midgar in close combat.
But... if he could draw on one of his abilities, things might turn in his favor.
"Gha..." Midgar grunted as a trickle of blood flowed from the corner of his mouth.
His grip on his poleaxe tightened as he prepared to fight to the end. He could no longer retreat.
