Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1936: You Can’t Escape (Part 2)
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Midgar had found Adam’s weakness. His path to victory lay in close combat, and in just a few attacks, he managed to inflict two serious wounds on Adam.
Sure, it wasn’t enough to win, Midgar knew that, but it was his best chance.
At least, Midgar believed that until Adam summoned the black spear.
In the blink of an eye, Midgar sensed that this spear was different from the others, and it wasn’t just because of its color or energy.
Whoooosh!
Midgar recoiled as he stared at the long, trembling spear in Adam’s hand.
"This spear..." he thought. "It looks like his previous ability, but it’s not that. Most likely, it’s the dark version of that ability, right?"
For someone like Midgar, figuring this out wasn’t difficult. After all, Adam wasn’t his first opponent. Along the way, Midgar had fought countless Phantoms and Lords, so he knew what Dark Energy was capable of.
"Is the dark ability your trump card?" Midgar chuckled mockingly. "I thought you’d surprise me with something more impressive."
Adam didn’t respond right away or take any action. Instead, he let the black spear hover above the ground, vibrations emanating from it.
Then, he raised his hands in front of him, hands still clad in the red gloves - his Nexus. But if he wanted to unleash the full power of the dark spear, he needed different gloves.
Tremble!
The red gloves trembled, shattering into countless threads. For a moment, they hung in the air before coming to life and weaving themselves into a new pair of black gloves.
Adam had used the dark version of "Future of the Past" several times before. "The Glare of Final Determination" was a powerful ability, and part of that power lay in the gloves and the eye symbols on them.
But... there were no more eye symbols on the black gloves. Instead, there were just eyes, which were still closed for now.
"Agh..."
Adam exhaled as the energy pulse coursed through his body.
"It’s been quite a while, hasn’t it? Damn, I don’t remember the last time I used this ability."
Midgar, who was standing to the side, grew wary.
He had been able to cut through Adam’s blue threads and tear apart the white threads, but... he wasn’t sure he could do anything to counter the Dark Energy. It was a whole different level of danger for any living creature.
’If the power of his abilities had remained at the K4 level, even the Dark Energy wouldn’t have been an actual threat to me, but... his abilities are at least at the Baron level, and given the nature of his abilities, they could even harm me.’
Midgar’s armor and energy could protect him from many threats, but Adam’s abilities turned out to be a greater danger than he had expected.
But he was already prepared, and he knew what he had to do.
"He said that black spear is his trump card? Fine, in that case, I’ll just dodge it. All I need to do is make one precise leap. I can handle this."
Crack!
The gray wings spread wide across Midgar’s back as he narrowed his blue eyes. All his attention was focused solely on Adam, who was moving slowly, as if waiting for his opponent’s nerves to give out.
Clutch.
Adam gripped the black spear tightly just as a gleam flashed across his eyes.
His blue eyes suddenly turned red as the eyes on his gloves opened at that very moment.
For some reason, Midgar’s heart tightened with fear as a chill ran down his spine.
’What? What is this feeling? Why has his aura suddenly become so frightening... Could it all be because of that spear?’
Then, Midgar realized something as he sensed an unusual, rare aura around Adam.
’It’s not just his aura... No... It can’t be... Is this still the power from the First Star? Does he still possess it, and is it helping him?’
Everyone who had studied Adam’s biography knew what had happened during his first visit to the Dark Shore and why Adam had ended up there in the first place.
It all came down to the First Star, which had decided that Adam was worthy of passing through the black flash.
No one knew how the black flash could be triggered or what criteria the First Star used. It either happened or it didn’t.
"He... He’s a human! Why did the First Star take notice of him and grant him access to Dark Energy so early?!"
Midgar clenched his jaw as the anger inside him gradually grew.
’That’s exactly why his Dark Energy is so powerful! He reached the limit of the K4 Level less than an hour ago! He was only just supposed to be gradually learning and training how to use the Dark Energy... but... just look at him!’
Strangely enough, Adam smirked.
He noticed the subtle changes in Midgar’s facial expressions and his gaze darting from side to side.
"What? Looks like someone’s afraid of a single spear?" Adam lifted his chin, looking down at Midgar.
In response, Midgar frowned as a sharp glint flashed across his eyes.
"Tsk. You’re too arrogant. Drop your spear, and then our fight will be over."
Adam nodded.
"I see. You think you can dodge my spear and counterattack? Well, I’m afraid that won’t happen."
"Agh?"
Midgar was confused as Adam pulled his arm back, preparing to throw.
Adam smiled as the red eyes on his gloves glowed brightly.
One seal appeared right in front of the tip of his spear, while the second appeared in front of Midgar. It happened faster than he could react.
"You won’t get away."
No sooner had those words been spoken than Adam leaned forward and threw the black spear, which shot toward Midgar like a dark bolt of lightning.
Midgar’s eyes widened as he flapped his wings sharply, veering to the left.
The spear whizzed past him, continuing onward.
A satisfied grin was about to appear on Midgar’s face until he realized something.
Another black spear was already heading toward him from the other side, while the first one was still following its original trajectory.
