Tap.
A cup of green tea sat in front of Adam, along with some cookies. He took a few cookies, leisurely sipping the tea with its deep, slightly bitter flavor.
To his left sat Laroza, who had finally put on a robe, but even so, she looked provocative since the robe only partially covered the necessary areas. However, there was no point in trying to convince her to put on anything else. She would refuse, and no one would force her.
Across from Adam sat Krador, who was slowly stirring his spoon in his cup of tea. His gaze was weary, though a satisfied smile played on his face.
Adam suspected that Laroza and Krador might have had that kind of relationship because of how long they’d known each other, but until that moment, he hadn’t been sure.
"Huh, I can’t even imagine what he has to do to satisfy a woman like Laroza. Look at this guy, it seems like a few more sighs, and he’ll pass out. Although..." Adam glanced at Laroza. "I’m sure many men would envy Krador and wish they were in his place."
"So, Krador, you know why I’m here, don’t you?"
Krador nodded deeply as his serious, businesslike expression returned.
"Sure."
After that, he took out a scroll and placed it on the table.
Adam picked it up with a questioning expression.
"These are the documents for the house. You wanted one, so now you have a house in Varreyn. It’s located two blocks from the park in a quiet neighborhood. If you’d like, I can show you where it is and give you a little tour."
"Great, but I’ll visit my house later."
"As you wish."
Then, Krador took a sip of tea and stared intently at Adam, a glint flashing across his eyes.
"You wanted me to find information about Breydar."
"Yes."
After a pause, Krador continued:
"It wasn’t easy, but I managed to do it. Breydar is a Baron who, apparently, was trying to become a Viscount. To do so, he stole the Crystal of Hollow Souls. These are special crystals that are very valuable to a certain monster clan on the Dark Shore."
"Clan?" Adam asked.
’Another one?’ he thought. ’I know there are many of them in the Primal Lands, but it seems there are some on the Dark Shore as well, aren’t there?’
Krador nodded deeply.
"The Veiled Souls Clan. It’s a small clan of just a few members located on the Dark Shore. Like almost all the forces there, except for the neutral Lords and the Free End, they are loyal to the Befallen Crown. But, as far as I know, this incident has nothing to do with the Befallen Crown."
’Good...’ Adam sighed inwardly with relief. He realized he wasn’t yet ready to face the Befallen Crown’s strongest monsters.
He remembered well what had happened in the Primal Lands. If it hadn’t been for Goen and Zargos, he would have died at least twice. The Befallen Crown’s squads would certainly have kidnapped or killed him.
"There isn’t much information about them, but what I know for sure is that they create the Crystals of Hollow Souls. This is a special resource that’s vital to their clan’s progress. Because of their shared bloodline, they can use this crystal to advance to the next level faster."
Adam nodded deeply.
"Got it. Breydar stole this crystal for himself, and in doing so, he deprived some important monster at the Veiled Souls Clan of the chance to evolve. Did I get that right?"
"Yes," Krador confirmed. "Apparently, Breydar found some way to use this crystal even though he isn’t a member of their clan. But he definitely hasn’t done it yet. Most likely, some problems have come up."
Laroza, who had been listening intently, shook her head.
"Adam, I think you realize this is bad news for you."
He didn’t need an explanation. Adam understood everything.
"Yeah... I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to help the Grad Family. Maybe by the time I find him, he’ll already be a Viscount. The Veiled Souls Clan or someone else hasn’t been able to get to him yet, right?"
Krador nodded. "They tried. They pursued him throughout the Dead Lands, but when Breydar reached the Gray Sea, they decided it was too dangerous. But they definitely didn’t let him go. Most likely, members of their clan are waiting for him to leave the Gray Sea.
"They must be in the territories closest to the Gray Sea. Maybe some of them are here in Varreyn as well."
For a while, Adam stared at a single point, thoughtfully tapping his chin.
"I see. They’re waiting for him to leave the Gray Sea, and at the same time, Breydar is trying to become strong enough to defeat him. Tsk, I should have gone there right away instead of wasting time."
Laroza waved her hand dismissively.
"Relax. You don’t know if he’s already absorbed that crystal or not. Besides, it’s obvious that you’ve gotten stronger over the past few days. Looks like Amelia kept her word and taught you the Soul Stance, didn’t she?"
Adam smirked.
"Yeah, it was hard, but I managed to do it."
He raised his hand as the gray veil covered it.
Laroza and Krador had just enough time to realize that this wasn’t just his aura, but the Soul Stance.
’Incredible,’ Krador thought. ’He managed to do this in such a short time? Laroza was right, this young man will go far. It’s good that I was able to establish some kind of connection with him. "That will be useful in the future."
"Anyway, Breydar was last seen near Islands A150 and A180. He must be somewhere in that region. That’s all I have. There’s no further information about him."
"Good. Now, I want to see it finally. You haven’t forgotten the main condition of our deal, have you?"
Krador smiled.
"Of course. After all, in exchange for this, I received the Glass Root."
He stood up, went into the next room, and returned a few minutes later with a small black box big enough to hold a ring or earrings.
Tap.
Krador placed the box in front of Adam and slowly opened it.
A smooth, dark-purple compass with a hint of blue lay inside, its needle pointing north.
"This is the Obsidian Compass. It will show you the way straight to the Grand Abyss."
