Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1886: One last request and an unexpected sight

Step. Step. Step.
With a calm stride, Adam left the Grad family residence as Amelia escorted him to the exit.
"I hope you achieve your goals at the Gray Sea. I wish you all the best and want to thank you once again for what you’ve done. It meant a lot to all of us. You saved my father and the head of our family. You’ll always be a respected guest here."
Adam looked around as the whole of Varreyn lay beneath them.
"Yeah, I think I’ll come back to this city someday. It’s a great place, but I have to go. Don’t take this personally, but I had to stay because of you."
Amelia nodded. "I know. However, it was my only chance. If you had gone to the Gray Sea, I don’t know who would have helped my father."
"Hey, before I go, can I ask you for a little favor?"
"Hmm? Sure." Amelia blinked a few times. "If you have a request, just say so. The other members of our family and I will do everything in our power to help you!"
"Calm down, it’s a simple request, and it’s personal to you."
Amelia was confused, but she listened to him carefully.
"Markol, he seems like a good guy. I mean, he’s your younger brother, but if possible, go easy on him."
She wanted to say something, but Adam beat her to it.
"I know that by your standards he’s a failure since he couldn’t establish contact with the Spirit of Eternal Winter, but... Now I understand how the Legacy Artifacts work well enough to be confident that all is not yet lost for him."
Adam smiled as his eyes sparkled.
"Give him time. He’ll find a way to become a full-fledged member of the family. Otherwise, the Spirit of Eternal Winter wouldn’t have chosen him, would it?"
This wasn’t what Amelia had expected, but she had no reason to refuse him.
"S-Sure." Amelia bowed deeply. "If that’s your request, I’ll do my best. Maybe I really am too harsh on him sometimes."
Adam nodded.
"Good. Now, how do I get back to the lower level? A cunning merchant is waiting for me."
"I’ll help you. Follow me."
Last time they’d been in a hurry, so Amelia had reached the upper level in just a few long leaps, but now there was no need to rush. Nothing threatened her father anymore, and very soon their family would return to the pinnacle of power.
Who knows. Maybe the next time Vador tries to become stronger, he’ll succeed, and their family will have its first True Lord.
After all, Amelia, Nukra, and Romara were still far from that level. Becoming a True Lord was a trial that only a few monsters out of tens of billions could pass.
A creak.
The elevator running through the stone peak rising to the left of Varreyn began to move. Adam and Amelia passed through the middle level, where many monsters were heading into the shafts leading deep below, and soon they reached the gates of the lower level.
The gates were open, yet occasionally the guards would stop a random monster and ask where it was headed.
When they saw Amelia, no one asked any questions. She was indebted to Adam for saving her father, but to most monsters at Varreyn, she was a noble and important figure who must not be disturbed.
Only when they reached the main square did Amelia bow once more, her hands resting on the hem of her dress.
"Thank you once again. I’m sure that by the time we meet next, you’ll be much stronger."
Adam smirked as he looked her straight in the eyes.
"Yes. I’ll be a Second-Rank Phantom."
Many K4-Phantoms had said the same thing. Amelia knew this better than anyone, but for some reason, she felt that Adam would actually be able to do it.
She smiled.
"Sure, I’ll look forward to it."
After that, Amelia’s frame flickered as she vanished, returning to the Grad Family residence.
"Agh... It’s over, isn’t it? Well, maybe it’s for the best. I’ve gotten stronger, and what’s more... Krador had enough time to fulfill all the terms of our updated deal."
Adam headed for the Mist Owl Tower. He already knew the way.
Step. Step. Step.
Adam made his way up to the top floor, which was essentially Krador’s apartment, but... he didn’t see anyone there.
"Hmm? Have they left?"
Before he could go any further, a noise came from the room on the left, something that sounded like groans, or rather, deep moans.
Then, the door opened, and Laroza stepped out. Her hair was plastered to her forehead with sweat, and her warrior’s body, tall and muscular, was completely exposed. She wasn’t wearing a single piece of clothing.
She didn’t notice Adam right away. At first, she picked up a jug of water and drained it in a few gulps.
Adam stood speechless. The most he could do was not to stare at her, even though she was standing right in front of him.
He was faithful to Silvana. He did not doubt that she was the only one he needed, but he couldn’t deny that Laroza had an incredible body. After all, she was a monster who had fought through thousands of battles and had almost always emerged victorious.
At some point, Laroza’s eyes fell on Adam, who was standing in the doorway. Her eyes froze, just like the jug at her mouth.
After that, she slowly lowered the jug as a broad grin spread across her face.
"Hey! Adam, you’re back! Glad to see you!"
Apparently, Laroza didn’t know what shame was.
"Damn it!" Adam waved his hand. "Cover yourself with something! How can you not even react? You’re naked!"
"Pffft! You’d be naked too if you hadn’t turned me down right from the start."
Adam crossed his arms over his chest as he turned away while she went to throw on a robe.
"You know I’m already in a relationship. Stop bringing it up."
"Sure, and since you’re back, you’re ready, right?"
Adam’s expression grew more serious.
"Yeah, I’m heading to the Gray Sea, but first I need a compass."
