Morok summons his dark Arc from an amulet, enveloping himself in living shadows as he confronts Zargos, whose golden flames threaten to burn through the darkness. Upstairs, explosions rock the structure while in the basement, Adam and Merra prepare for intruders. Two Sword Squad members—a one-armed swordsman and a water-wielding girl—burst through the gates, attacking Merra to reach Adam. Despite her barriers and daggers, Merra sustains injuries, but Adam's spectral blades and her counterstrike fatally wound the swordsman. As the girl unleashes deadly water currents on the bound Merra, a powerful fist crashes down from above, pinning her to the ground.

Merra was caught in a dire predicament. It was solely because Adam struck the young man using his spectral blades that she got the chance to strike and finish him off.

Yet, they possessed no further aces to play against the girl. Adam moved too sluggishly and lacked sufficient strength, while Merra remained powerless due to the watery restraints encircling her frame.

In all honesty, if Merra had faced this peril in any other spot, her demise would have been inevitable. No aid would have come her way, and even if it did, it wouldn't have arrived swiftly enough.

Without two key elements—one positioned somewhat distant from the basement—Merra's end would have been certain.

...

BLAST!

The scarlet explosion flung the burly man and the woman away. Their streaks of golden fire and lightning sought to rip apart Zargos's blaze, but their force fell short.

"Damn! How is he this powerful? What's with his energy levels?" The woman hacked up a lump of blood. This was already her third injury in merely a minute of battle.

The brawny man examined the scorch on his shoulder and nodded with composure.

"Indeed. He's grown considerably stronger of late. It's all thanks to Adam Vinter, right?" He locked eyes with Zargos.

Before Zargos could respond, Morok advanced with a threatening gait.

Shadows trailed in his wake, singed by Zargos's fires, yet pushing to regain their prior might.

He spoke up in place of Zargos.

"Naturally. That's exactly why he rescued him—to enable his evolution."

That said, Zargos had no taste for banter. He was fending off the trio effectively, and even Morok didn't pose a genuine threat to him.

Even so, a heavy scowl etched his features. More than a minute had ticked by, and none of them had fallen to him yet.

'Damn, I figured it'd take me under 30 seconds. If I don't finish them off now, Merra could be lost! Screw this!'

Tremble!

Zargos's aura surged violently, compelling Morok, the man, and the woman to back away. They were clueless about Zargos's next move, but his inferno was undeniably perilous.

Just as Zargos prepared to strike, an event seized his focus, along with everyone else's.

"Agh?"

The woman swallowed hard.

"What the hell?!"

The once vibrant and clear sky above the living jungle had dimmed, as some force made the whole expanse quake.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

Instantly after, a comet wreathed in violet, jagged flames that warped the nearby space, sliced through the clouds like a shadowy star barreling toward Zargos's home.

"Damn..." Zargos whispered, fully aware of what was coming.

The comet pierced the tough stone barriers without hindrance, and even the rune-shielded sections couldn't impede it. Its destructive force was immense, and the most alarming aspect was that Zargos recognized the source.

He shot a glance at Morok and the rest.

"Folks, don't see this as boasting, but if I were you, I'd bolt as far as possible right now."

Morok's brow creased. He sensed their position had worsened, but not by how much.

...

Step.

Stunned, Merra retreated a pace. She hadn't realized rescue had arrived; her actions stemmed from pure reflex.

"Agh... Agh... Agh..."

Merra gasped for air heavily as the dust began to settle.

"GHA!" The girl hacked up a gob of blood, grinding her teeth. "What the? Release me, you scum!"

Adam blinked repeatedly, unable to believe his eyes.

He fixed his stare on the woman whose lengthy crimson tresses draped beyond her shoulders like raging fire, her amber gaze sharp, and her toned, slender form radiating power.

From a distance, she echoed Zargos, particularly in her angular facial lines, except...

'She's like his feminine counterpart, far more daunting and grave,' he pondered, and that hit close to reality.

The woman turned to Merra.

"Are you okay?"

"Y-Yes," Merra replied, her voice shaky as she nodded.

"Now you." The woman eyed the girl. "Who the hell are you, worm?"

The girl lifted her gaze, summoning water currents to lash at the woman.

"Tsk, you think I'm going to tell you that?"

The woman showed no response, seizing the girl's left arm instead.

"Agh?"

Terror flashed in her eyes.

Crack!

With a quick twist, the woman severed the girl's arm. She flung it at the wall with brutal strength, making it shatter into bloody bits.

"I'll ask you again. Who are you?" Her tone dropped lower.

The girl stood frozen in disbelief, delaying her reply by a moment. To the woman, that was far too long; she lunged for the girl's face.

"Wait, wait!"

The woman pressed on without emotion, gouging out the girl's right eye and smashing it in her hand.

"FFUCK! Y-You! FINE! We're from the Sword Squad! Morok is my commander! We came here for him!"

She yelled, glaring at Adam.

"We're here because of Adam Vinter! Because of that bastard! We must capture or kill him!"

She'd revealed plenty, yet she ranted on, fueled by dread or fury.

"That bastard Zargos! He only made everything more difficult! SHIT!"

The woman gave a nod, stretching her hand toward the girl with her palm floating overhead.

"I see. That's enough."

Before relief could twist the girl's features into a grin, crushing weight bore down on her.

Faint purple ripples flowed from the woman's palm in sequence, morphing into slender energy specks that sliced through the air.

TREMBLE!

A hidden power slammed the girl flat. The overwhelming force kept her head from rising at all.

'Hold on...' Adam thought inwardly. 'She won't quit now, will she?'

"WAAAAIT!"

The girl's wail rang out before the gravitational might pulverized her, reducing her to a red smear and scattered flesh.

The woman didn't so much as twitch, blood streaking half her face.

She stood and passed by Merra, who lacked the energy to rise.

Step. Step. Step.

The intensity built with every stride, peaking as she loomed over Adam.

"Hey, you are—!"

Before he uttered more, the woman clamped his neck and hoisted him up.

"Adam Vinter?"

Her fingers squeezed tighter.

"I kill those who cause trouble for my brother. Do you know that?"

At that instant, all Adam could recall were Zargos's mentions of his sister.

Right then, he was truly in deep trouble.
