Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1586 1586: Beginning of Real Power

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
The woman who ordered Adam Vinter's capture, foreseeing interference, summoned the Old Horn to aid Liliane's team against the mysterious protector, Goen. Upon arrival, the Old Horn intimidated the red-haired girl before Liliane reluctantly integrated him as the eighth member, assigning him to attack alongside her; he unleashed his full icy power, manifesting a massive axe that drove away the ice wyverns. As the team launched a coordinated assault on Goen amid the smoke barrier shielding Adam and Alexia, he effortlessly halted the Old Horn's strike with one hand, repelled Liliane's rapier with mere energy, and hurled her into a hidden attacker, leaving Adam in awe of such overwhelming strength.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

Seven monsters unleashed a barrage of strikes upon one lone human, yet this human showed no signs of being in dire straits.

Goen's speed was blinding, making it nearly impossible for Adam and Alexia, who observed the clash, to catch more than a glimpse of his actions.

Meanwhile, the assaults from the fifth team's members were perfectly visible to them, all except those from the Old Horn.

"This monster stands out from the rest," Adam pondered while eyeing the Old Horn. "If these seven answer straight to the Befallen Crown, then he's probably just a hired gun, isn't he? Damn, all this while in the Primal Lands, and there was a guy like him lurking around?"

Just the Old Horn managed to clash with Goen on somewhat even footing, though calling it equal was a stretch.

Goen relied solely on his bare hands and energy for now, whereas the Old Horn wasted no time in calling forth his Arc.

"Come on, kids! Unleash your real strength!" The Old Horn shouted with wild glee. "Don't you get it? He doesn't think you're worth pulling out his weapon for! If I were in your shoes, I sure as hell wouldn't swallow that kind of insult!"

Whoooooosh.

Gripping his axe firmly with both hands, the Old Horn swung it downward at Goen with every ounce of his power.

Goen swiftly contorted his body in an instant, letting the axe whistle harmlessly by his chest. Its edge cleaved the lake apart, carving a broad streak of ice right through the middle.

Right then, a fierce wave of heat surged from overhead, prompting Goen to spin around. Oddly enough, this particular assault grabbed his focus.

The hammer wielder channeled his energy into his tool, igniting it in a blazing red fire so scorching it could thaw the snow even in the harsh Primal Lands.

"No dodging this blow!" the hammer man bellowed while vapor started steaming up from the lake's surface.

An odd shift came over Goen. His gaze flicked back and forth, searching desperately for an escape route.

"Is fear gripping him?" Adam wondered, struggling to accept the scene unfolding. "Could this hit be that lethal? Does fire pose a weakness to Goen?"

Truth be told, the same suspicions raced through everyone's minds. They all noticed Goen's face twist in alarm, yet the true cause remained a mystery to them.

Whoooooooosh.

Just seconds shy of the impact, Goen vanished, only to rematerialize directly before the hammer man. He seized the burly fighter by the neck like a lifeless doll and hurled him ahead toward the cascading falls.

"You... What the hell are you...!"

Mid-air, the hammer man reached for the brink, but Goen was already there waiting.

With an icy glare, he slammed a kick into the man's jaw, sending him tumbling over the waterfall's edge.

Even more, Goen pursued him directly down to the rushing river beneath.

The remaining fighters exchanged glances. Confusion gripped them, but they had no option except to chase after their comrade. Allowing Goen to pick them off individually would spell disaster.

"Go! We've got to aid him!" Liliane cried out, charging ahead without hesitation.

The whole group trailed after Liliane, with Adam and Alexia edging nearer to the drop-off, the shielding mist shifting to follow. They were eager to witness the action.

But... something felt off.

"Agh?"

Adam whipped around, fixing his gaze on the youth who, amid the chaos, hadn't budged an inch from his position.

"What's your deal? Why skip the battle and leave them hanging without support?"

"Hmm?" The youth parted his amber eyes just a bit. "Wouldn't that play right into your hands? One foe's out of commission. I'd take that as a win."

Adam's brow furrowed.

"No way, that's bad news through and through. You're biding your time for something, right?"

A sly curve tugged at the youth's mouth corners.

"Who knows, maybe I am, maybe I'm not. This hunter packs a punch, but eventually, he'll slip up. It's inevitable."

The youth fell silent after that. For now, he opted to watch from the sidelines as a neutral bystander.

"Let me loose!" The hammer man yelled, leaping away in retreat.

Bruises marred his neck, and crimson trickled from his chin. Despite taking just two hits, he geared up to keep battling.

Tension thickened in the air, building until...

"Hahahahahahahaha!" The Old Horn burst into roaring laughter, smacking his knee in mirth. "Sorry, I can't hold it in! Hahahahaha!"

Liliane's eyes tightened into slits.

"What's the joke?"

The Old Horn dismissed it with a wave.

"It's got nothing to do with you lot. You all caught how this hunter got jittery right before that final strike, didn't you? Hahaha, bet plenty figured he dreaded taking the hit, but truth is, his freak-out stemmed from a whole different issue!"

"Hmm?"

Liliane found herself thrown for a loop.

"Explain yourself. I'd be terrified for sure facing down a blaze like that!"

The Old Horn rubbed the nape of his neck.

"Sure, you might, but not this guy. What really irked him about the flames was their effect on the snow and the lake."

Dawning comprehension hit the team hard.

"He simply aimed to stop the fiery assault from boiling away the entire lake, wrecking his habitat." The Old Horn faced Goen. "Got that right, don't I?"

Goen gave a nod.

"Yeah. I poured tons of effort and hours into discovering this spot. No way I'm letting it go up in smoke over some brats who fancy themselves as powerhouses."

To Liliane, that pushed her over the edge.

"Now!" She thrust her rapier toward Goen. "We're wrapping this battle up here and now!"

Her command rang clear to all.

The girl with blue hair moved first. Her earlier blasts had left Goen unscathed, but as a true Lord, she possessed an ace up her sleeve.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

Her aura swelled, and a blue ring adorned with multiple stars materialized and floated in front of her.

Adam recognized these powers from before. Lords had deployed them in the skirmish against Saegar at the Dark Shore.

The blue-haired girl selected a single star while shouting:

"Azure Hail!"

The hammer man and axe wielder activated their own skills too. Once the trio locked onto stars within their rings, vibrant fields burst forth in blue, yellow, and red hues, each tied to distinct elements.

Goen blinked upon spotting countless azure specks dotting the heavens above. On one side, flames amassed, while lightning crackled on the other.

'So they've at last chosen to reveal their full potential? Excellent. It'll prove valuable to gauge the abilities of today's Lords.'
