Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1539 1539: Carnage and Ice
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Following the initial assault from the Stone Demon, both Adam and Alexia prepared for a grueling and excruciating fight.
It dawned on them that they were up against a swift, mighty creature that probably boasted formidable defenses too.
Yet... At times, things turned out utterly unlike expectations.
As soon as the Stone Demon chose to evade Alexia's ice axe, Adam pieced together the truth.
"Come on, you took out a Phantom like me in a single hit, you're always smirking, you're ridiculously full of yourself. It's like staring at my reflection."
Adam's eyes quivered while he stared at the ice axe right in front of the Stone Demon.
'And you opted to just dodge? You went for such a dull move instead of halting her axe and shattering it with your fists? That's exactly what I'd do, since out of us two, just one is the true cocky jerk!'
In a twist of fate, the Stone Demon's absence of arrogance had led to this very moment.
Adam figured out that nothing here was genuine; the figure confronting them wasn't some fearsome beast but a mere fool.
Slash!
The instant Adam lashed out with his needle, catching the Stone Demon off guard with no chance to respond or shield itself, the reality hit Adam as his eyes fixed on the creature's horns.
'So quick that I missed your strike entirely? Ha, total rubbish. Maybe I lagged behind thanks to those horns!'
Crack. Crack. Crack.
With every bit of his power, acting like a feral animal, Adam seized the Stone Demon's horns and ripped them straight from its skull.
The scene was gory and savage, with chunks of meat and sinews trailing after the horns, inflicting excruciating torment on the beast.
GGGGRRRRRHHHHHHOOOOOO!!!
Wracked with torment, the Stone Demon bellowed while its arm lunged toward Adam, aiming to hurl him from its cranium.
Alexia's eyes constricted in disbelief at the sight. It wasn't Adam who seemed sluggish, but the Stone Demon itself, moving so sluggishly now.
Slash. Slash. Slash.
Adam wielded his needle in a frenzy of slashes, shredding the Stone Demon's fingers into fragments.
Crimson liquid sprayed everywhere as he slammed his hand onto the Stone Demon's mangled cranium.
"Alright, time to end it." Adam's voice, deceptively steady, stirred deep terror in the Stone Demon, though it was far too late by then.
Tremble.
A surge of power coursed along Adam's limb as he tapped into the primordial force, employing only a tiny amount.
That proved sufficient.
BLAST!
The Stone Demon's skull burst apart, scattering bits of gore in every direction.
Alexia remained rooted nearby, her face locked in shock briefly before shifting to a pleased grin.
She grasped the situation just as clearly.
"So it all hinged on his horns? Ha, that huge, frightening monster was just a pitiful faker and trickster!"
Tap.
The Stone Demon crumpled to the floor, with Adam perched atop its form, scanning the surroundings.
The remaining Stone Demons stirred from their rest too. Their gazes burned with vivid crimson, yet they missed the bold assurance of the initial one.
They knew their strategies were laid bare, leaving it ambiguous now who hunted and who was hunted.
"Bring it!" Adam shouted, flinging his arms out broadly. "Come at us together! You and us alike must battle until the final drop of blood!"
His words rang true, and the Stone Demons got it.
All at once, over a dozen of the fiends unfurled their wings and charged like massive shades toward Adam and Alexia.
...
Tap.
Adam discarded yet another horn as he faced Alexia, positioned amid a heap of mangled remains.
Limbs and gore blanketed the once-icy terrain; not a single Stone Demon survived.
The moment Adam and Alexia uncovered the horns as their vulnerability, the tough skirmish morphed into a slaughter, rendering Adam and Alexia invincible.
Devoid of their horns and the deception that warped Adam and Alexia's sense of tempo and velocity, the Stone Demons couldn't compete.
Nevertheless, even after their overwhelming triumph in the second ordeal, Adam and Alexia confronted yet another issue:
"And? What's our move now?" Adam cocked his head, glancing at the corridor.
Every corridor stayed sealed. Escape from this chamber was impossible, and the Ancient Voice offered no guidance.
"ADAM!"
Alexia cried out, prompting Adam to glance skyward.
His gaze expanded in alarm as he leaped abruptly aside.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Shattering multiple stone levels and wrecking the glass dome's structure, a fresh Stone Demon dropped down on them, distinct from the rest.
This one loomed larger and more imposing, its hide a fiery red instead of shadowy, bearing just a single horn brimming with vigor. Scarlet bands encircled its solitary horn, signaling plainly that it was the focus.
"Hah." Adam shifted position, eyeing the Red Demon's smug grin. He spotted the stark contrast to the others right away. "His horn, that's no trick. No matter what this fiend attempts, it'll spell real peril!"
Crack.
The Red Demon smashed its fists as one, signaling its readiness to clash with both of them.
Adam geared up to dive into the fray, yet an unseen force held him back.
A shiver raced along his back, causing him to tremble, and it stemmed not from the Red Demon's presence, but elsewhere.
"Arh?"
Adam spun about, only to witness Alexia advancing gradually.
Her bulky gloves and footwear were gone now, and the pale vapor no longer danced around her.
What lingered was a thick glacial force that chilled even her, sheathing her limbs in a fragile ice coating, as azure chill flames erupted from her frame.
"Adam, I've got a favor to ask."
Her gaze gleamed intensely while her essence shaped into a feral creature's outline. Unlike Alexia's serene and icy demeanor, the creature raged savagely, eager to pour its full might onto the foe.
"Let me handle this one."
