The whereabouts of the Blood of God and the Ancient Frost were a mystery to Beth. Had anyone else confessed this ignorance, Adam and Alexia might not have been so unsettled.
However, if Beth lacked the answers, it was unlikely anyone else in existence possessed them. Despite her harmless facade and irritable expression, her mind served as a vault for secrets and vast intelligence gathered over many centuries.
Such a depth of wisdom was simply out of reach for Adam and Alexia until they had survived at least several World Wipes themselves.
“W-What?” Adam stammered. “You actually don’t know how we can achieve it? Alexia and I haven’t even reached the peak of the K4 Level yet. Plenty of Phantoms have progressed way beyond us! They must have managed it somehow!”
Taking a slow sip of her steaming tea, Beth gave a profound nod.
“Use your head, Adam. You have already met several requirements to secure the First Grand Star and Second Grand Star, but…” Her piercing eyes locked onto him. “Did you know exactly where to go or how to fulfill every single condition from the very start?”
For a brief second, Adam’s eyes widened in realization.
The Midnight Crystal and Twilight Crystal had been his most straightforward milestones. The Connected Heart and Dark Heart fell into a similar bracket; though their nature was a mystery initially, he eventually learned that defeating specific rivals was the key to seizing their power and growing stronger.
Yet, Adam had satisfied six conditions up to this point, not just four. The Memory Fragment and the Desire of Beyond were entirely different matters.
The Memory Fragment was an accidental acquisition following his victory over Bathild. To obtain the Desire of Beyond, he had been forced to travel and seek the guidance of an Ancient Artifact—specifically, a Hollow One.
In hindsight, Adam realized the Desire of Beyond had been within him all along. He had merely required a catalyst to uncover the truth and unlock his new potential.
Currently, the remaining three requirements—the Highest Bliss, Blood of God, and Bottomless Void—seemed to belong to that same elusive category as the Memory Fragment and Desire of Beyond.
Adam had no idea where to even begin searching for a single one of them, yet that didn't signify the task was impossible.
Perhaps he required assistance, or maybe he needed to grasp the underlying logic of the process.
“Wait, you have a point,” Adam whispered, glancing toward Alexia. Her expression mirrored his own realization.
Beth nodded in agreement.
“Of course I do.”
Silvana and Louis, however, remained skeptical.
“Beth, isn't it odd that you're completely in the dark?” Silvana asked, her brow furrowing slightly. “I mean, is Adam truly the first Phantom in all of history required to find the Blood of God?”
Louis folded his arms across his chest in a defensive posture.
“Yeah, and what about Alexia? The Ancient Frost? Are you telling us there has never been another ice-element Phantom who needed the Ancient Frost?”
Surprisingly, Beth didn't bother making excuses. She felt no need to.
“Precisely. You are the very first to face these specific conditions; that is the only answer I can provide.”
A heavy silence filled the room.
For a moment, no one spoke. They recognized that Beth was being truthful, yet the reality was difficult to swallow. If the conditions for Adam and Alexia were truly unique, their hope of receiving guidance from a veteran Phantom was crushed by the harsh truth.
“However,” Beth added, “there is nothing strange about this. You simply don’t grasp the mechanics of this world yet, but I will attempt to clarify it for you.”
Her gaze drifted across the table until she spotted a simple red apple resting on a plate.
Picking up the fruit, Beth used it as an example.
“Suppose a Phantom must acquire a ‘Crimson Fire Apple’ to satisfy a condition. Another Phantom with an identical background and powers might have a matching requirement, but it could be titled the ‘Blazing Fruit’ instead.
“Furthermore, it isn't just the names that vary; the location of this ‘apple’ and its true form will differ as well. Will it be a piece of fruit? A clump of living flame? Or perhaps the name refers to a specific monster? Who can say?”
She set the apple back down.
“So, even if previous Phantoms dealt with conditions similar to yours, the names were distinct, the timing and locations were different, and even the physical state of the required object was unique. The only constant is a vague, underlying essence between the cases, nothing more.
“After all, it would be nonsensical for a Phantom with water-based Cultivation and a matching path to be forced to seek out something tied to fire and rage, wouldn't it?”
The group remained quiet for a time. Beth’s logic was sound and easy to follow, but it did little to improve their predicament.
“So… basically, whether or not someone has walked this path before, we have to figure out how to find the Blood of God and Ancient Frost on our own?” Adam asked, desperately hoping the process wasn't as grueling as it sounded.
He didn't regret the immense labor he put into obtaining the Desire of Beyond and the Silver Weaver, both of which were vital to his current strength. But repeating that ordeal three more times for every single condition?
Adam wasn't certain he possessed the endurance for that.
Just then, a small smile played on Beth’s lips.
“Well, while neither I, nor Damien, nor anyone else can show you the path, there is someone who can.”
“Huh? Who?” Alexia demanded, her hands slamming onto the table in excitement. “Is it a Phantom with a unique ability? Give us a name, and we’ll track them down right now!”
She was, as always, prepared to charge into action.
Beth shook her head slowly.
“That person is you.”
Adam and Alexia went still as a predatory glint sparked in Beth’s eyes.
“Though you might require the guidance of someone truly powerful, someone truly ancient… What do you think about the queen?”
