Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1491: Flight and Knowledges

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Adam's family dinner, intended for close friends Louis and Alexia, was unexpectedly joined by Damien and Beth. Despite their fearsome reputation as powerful Phantoms, Damien and Beth were surprisingly casual guests. Beth revealed she hacked communications to learn about the party, while Alexia playfully chided Damien for his unannounced arrival and lack of a gift. Damien then offered to take someone to the store, by flying.

Step. Step. Step.

Following Damien, Leona, Gary, and Trici stepped out onto the balcony. Having accepted his proposal, they waited for him to demonstrate the Phantoms' ability to fly. To them, such a feat seemed miraculous, a capability reserved strictly for aircraft or birds.

Damien, however, had a slightly different vision. Simply soaring into the sky before their eyes felt far too mundane for his tastes.

“Alright, just keep your cool. As long as I’m here, nothing bad is going to happen. Hahahah!” Damien let out a laugh as he stood before the group.

“Agh?” Leona blinked in confusion. “Damien, what exactly are you talking about?”

Click.

With a snap of his fingers, Damien allowed a fraction of his aura to seep out.

The sheer pressure of it was enough to momentarily rob Leona, Gary, and Trici of their breath.

“Gha!”

Relief washed over them an instant later, however, as pale green energy resembling a soft breeze swirled toward their feet. The Qi condensed into trembling clouds beneath them.

“I already gave you the rundown, didn't I? All four of us are heading out to grab some alcohol! Hahaha! Don't worry, Little Trici will get soda; she’s still far too young for the hard stuff.”

The gusts of wind intensified gradually until Leona and Gary realized the sensation of the solid floor had vanished from beneath them.

Peering down, they discovered they were hovering in the air, steadily ascending higher and higher.

Their pupils dilated and their pulses quickened with instinctive dread. The fear of a malfunction haunted them; a fall from this height meant shattered bones at best, and a gruesome death at worst.

As adults, they were acutely aware of the dangers, unlike the youngest member of the family.

“Yay!” Trici shouted with delight. “Mom, Dad, look at what I’m doing!”

While her parents struggled to maintain their composure, Trici was having the time of her life, tumbling through the air as if she were riding a roller coaster.

“Hahaha, hey, can we go even higher?” Trici asked, her eyes fixed on Damien.

Damien gave a casual shrug.

“Sure. That was the plan all along, though I should warn you that the temperature drops significantly up there. Don't worry, though—my energy will keep you shielded.”

Leona stretched out a hand. “Wait, maybe we should—!”

Whooooosh.

Damien cut her off with a wave of his hand, causing the wind currents to surge with power.

The night sky, the balcony, and the distant streetlights blurred into a single streak of color before they finally came to a halt.

When Leona opened her eyes, a biting gust of wind greeted them at the summit.

While the family struggled to keep their balance atop the shifting clouds of energy, Damien stood firmly in the empty air as though he were walking on a paved road.

Leona’s eyes widened further when she realized the clouds were no longer drifting above them, but were now spread out beneath their feet.

Above them lay an endless expanse of the night sky, shimmering with countless stars. Through the gaps in the cloud layer below, the entire Citadel was visible.

Heaven Island, the residence of Queen Elisa, remained out of sight. Despite the altitude Damien had brought them to, the soaring island stayed hidden from view.

Certain things were meant to remain obscured from ordinary humans for their own protection.

Even though Damien often acted with a reckless air, he understood this better than most. He had no intention of terrifying Adam’s family with the looming threat of the world's end.

His only goal was to provide them with a spectacular perspective they would never have encountered otherwise.

“What’s the verdict, Leona?” Damien asked, crossing his arms as he gestured toward the Citadel. “No skyscraper, no matter how tall, can offer a view like this, right?”

Gary swallowed hard.

“This… this is truly unbelievable. And you…” He stared intently at Damien’s feet. “Are you actually just standing on nothing?”

Damien shrugged dismissively.

“I promise you, for Phantoms at my level, this isn't anything special. It’s just a basic perk.”

“Wait,” Trici’s eyes lit up as she realized something. “Does that mean Adam and Alexia can do this now, too?”

Leona and Gary both turned to Damien, eager for his confirmation.

Scratch. Scratch. Scratch.

Damien rubbed his cheek thoughtfully.

“Well, he’s only just started learning. Flight requires a massive amount of energy, you see. However, once Adam grows more powerful and gains more Cultivation experience, it’ll become second nature to him.”

For several minutes, the three of them soaked in the scenery while peppered him with questions. Trici was the most inquisitive of all. Ever since Alexia had shared tales of the Dead Lands, her curiosity had reached a fever pitch, and she now had the chance to interrogate Damien himself.

“Alright, alright, let's not burn any more daylight—or moonlight, I guess.” Damien glanced toward the obsidian-colored skyscraper. “We set out to buy drinks, so let’s get to it!”

With a flick of his wrist, the wind propelled Leona, Gary, and Trici forward, slicing through the cloud bank ahead of them.

It was a brief but life-changing trip that no amount of wealth could ever purchase.

The only thing that brought them equal joy was the realization that their return trip would be just as extraordinary.

Sip. Sip. Sip.

Beth drew her juice through a straw, her half-lidded eyes fixed on Adam. In contrast to the high-energy Alexia, she always appeared as if she were on the verge of falling asleep, a faint trace of annoyance in her expression.

“Since they’re out, we should probably discuss matters more pressing than shrimp and pineapple snacks, don't you think?”

The four of them nodded in agreement. While Beth lacked the raw power and fame of Damien for obvious reasons, she served as his Operator. She wielded a level of influence and authority that was far beyond the reach of most Phantoms.

However, Beth’s true strength lay in her vast reservoir of knowledge.

While Damien had spent centuries slaying monsters and toppling the most formidable foes, she had been meticulously observing and documenting the triumphs and disasters of thousands of other Phantoms and Operators.

Beyond her immense experience, she possessed access to the most restricted classified data held by the Citadel and the inner circles of the Second Rank Phantoms. This was information that could not be purchased or found in any public record.

“The Blood of God and the Ancient Frost—those are the requirements for your Third Grand Star, correct?” Beth asked, her eyes shifting between Adam and Alexia.

Adam gave a firm nod. “That's right. Do you have any leads on where we might find them?”

“Well… that’s the problem, Adam.” Beth’s expression grew somber. “Nobody knows. Not even me.”
