Endless Debt Chapter 639 - 150: Swift Blade
Bennett didn’t have time to feel the clear pain surging through his body; it transformed into waves of pleasure, rushing to his mind.
Protection·Chaotic Joy.
This protection from the Devil could also be seen as a power that disregarded pain.
In battle, the pain from injuries would limit a Condenser’s ability to unleash their full strength, and even disrupt their mental judgment. But under the shield of Protection·Chaotic Joy, Bennett could feel only pleasure.
Only delightful pleasure.
Pain is a human defense mechanism, using the most brutal means to warn you of danger. Breaking through this defense does indeed greatly enhance Bennett’s fighting will, but similarly, it also makes him forget that he is walking steadily towards death.
Bennett had seen too many similar cases. Many of his comrades, with bodies so damaged that their internal organs were exposed, still felt no pain, participated in the slaughter with frenzied smiles, until they were led to destruction by the intense pleasure.
Ignoring pain turned Bennett into something like a berserker, but it also made his body sluggish, unable to detect hidden dangers.
The huge wound in his waist and abdomen did not stop Bennett’s steps; pain transformed into Ether, almost igniting his Alchemy Matrix.
Soon, more waves of Ether were converted and bubbling inside.
Bennett was injured, unable to feel pain, unable to see his enemies, not even sure where his wounds were.
Raising his hand, he finally noticed that he was missing several fingers, and then several more fell off right before his eyes.
Bennett halted, standing alone in the pitch-black wilderness, the howling wind beside his ears disappeared, leaving only the chirping of insects in the silence.
Then Bennett heard it, from the end of the night, that sharp buzzing sound.
Bennett realized his mistake. From the moment he locked eyes with those Canyin pupils, he was already dead; now fleeing was just a way to slightly change his manner of dying.
A shout of defiance against death erupted from Bennett’s mouth; he roared, summoning all his Ether, ready to fight to the death with the enemy under the cover of night.
A weak hint of pain flickered past, Bennett’s roar interrupted in his throat, as a long wound stretched across his neck.
Bennett clutched his throat, catching a glimpse of that ghostly shadow; it was a Flying Knife like a feather.
It was spinning in mid-air, then again slashed towards Bennett.
In a daze, Bennett’s senses were torn apart by the wild wind. The sharpness of the gusts gnawed at his ears like steel needles scraping against metal surfaces; the alarm-like high-frequency resonance slammed into his eardrums repeatedly, echoing along his nerves as if an electric drill had penetrated his skull, burrowing deep into the pink brain tissues, grinding them into bloody pulp.
The rapidly moving Storm Feather, driven by Ether, began to split; it continued self-replicating, Illusion Creation, one into two, two into four... In the blink of an eye, the solitary Flying Knife transformed into a metallic rainstorm that howled its way down.
Bennett couldn’t even release his Secret Energy; he felt a sharp cutting sensation striking every part of his body as thousands of blades hacked at his torso and limbs.
Amidst the storm, Bennett’s shell broke apart, eventually turning into a fine paste, scattered into the wilderness.
The metallic storm began to wane; the lone Flying Knife dropped back steadily into Palmer’s hand, like a boomerang. He lowered his head, carefully cleaning the blood off the Storm Feather with the corner of his clothes.
Calm and leisurely, as though Palmer had merely killed a coyote.
...
Someone was chasing him.
Wu Lei was very clear about this fact; the pursuer made no effort to hide. Under the fervent Ether reaction, the pursuit was akin to a giant’s stride, with each footfall crushing the earth with Ethereal Amplification, propelling him forward like a cannonball.
The distance between the two was rapidly closing; in a few seconds, Wu Lei would be completely overtaken.
No escape.
Wu Lei abruptly halted, counting seconds in his heart, calculating time.
Intense emotions transformed into Ether, all injected into the Alchemy Matrix wrapped around his arm, extreme heat gathered in Wu Lei’s palm.
As Wu Lei turned around, he pushed his palm backward, pointing it like a gun barrel at the pursuer behind him.
Secret Energy·Bursting Touch.
The high temperature twisted the air, gathering, expanding, and then unleashing a fan-shaped shockwave.
The heat wave swept across the wilderness like a giant scythe, cutting through weeds along the way, scattering sand and dust, and raising a billowing dust storm.
"Didn’t hit!"
Wu Lei thought, he could sense the opponent’s rapid approach, the intense ether reaction was like a blazing sun approaching him, so Wu Lei decisively crouched down, pressing his hands against the ground.
The high temperature ignited the soil, Wu Lei leapt high, while the ground beneath him instantly turned into scorching lava, flames rising skyward.
Where?
Wu Lei’s eyes quickly darted around, trying to search for the silhouette of his pursuer but suddenly he couldn’t find them; even the ether reaction was gone.
Pointing a single finger to his side, Wu Lei attempted to move himself in mid-air by releasing a shockwave, but when the shockwave exploded and his figure darted like an arrow, a clear pain sensation spread from Wu Lei’s ankle.
Looking down, a slender silver thread had somehow wrapped around his ankle, tightening as the shockwave propelled Wu Lei’s movement, cutting his limb like a soft blade.
Wu Lei crashed heavily to the ground, but there were no screams, no wails, just laughter filled with tears.
Footsteps approached from behind Wu Lei, the Evil Spirit came slowly and he didn’t seem in a rush to kill Wu Lei. Ether filled the Face of Horror, and strong fear assaulted Wu Lei, but soon that fear turned into pleasure.
The overwhelming pleasure accelerated Wu Lei’s heartbeat, his chest heaving violently, his lungs forcefully contracting repeatedly.
Bologue noted in his heart that his Face of Horror was ineffective against the Zongge Orchestra, it only made them stronger.
Noticing Wu Lei’s broken limb, Bologue muttered to himself, "Ignoring pain is not entirely a positive gain."
Ignoring pain made Wu Lei fail to notice his own injuries in time, allowing Bologue’s trick to succeed.
This is both an advantage and a disadvantage.
Wu Lei knelt on the ground, he was not prepared to escape. In this situation, running away would only give Bologue the chance to injure him, he chose to fight to the death with Bologue, even if it meant dying, he wanted to inflict heavy damage on Bologue.
Explosive Touch burned through the air, the strong shockwave propelled Wu Lei, allowing him to sprint at high speed even with a foot missing.
The distance between the two rapidly shortened, Wu Lei’s hands came together, aimed at Bologue, while Bologue remained unmoved, still standing in place.
The extreme temperature warped the air, and then triggered a tidal wave of impact, sweeping everything along the way, peeling away the scattered weeds and rocks, revealing the solid rock beneath, accelerating and raining down like dense arrow rain, battering Bologue.
The dense Iron Armor enveloped Bologue, sparks flew on the surface of the Armor, but the impact did not shake Bologue. The heat wave and Wu Lei came rushing together, and at close range, Wu Lei’s Explosive Touch was enough to completely vaporize Bologue.
As long as he could touch Bologue.
Suddenly, in Wu Lei’s vision, many shining light bands appeared. They were very fine and only under the caress of the wind did they slightly refract light, revealing their positions.
Wu Lei didn’t understand what these were, but meanwhile, he had already crossed these strange light bands, reaching Bologue.
Bologue looked at Wu Lei with calm eyes, Wu Lei placed a single hand against Bologue’s chest armor, and suddenly an extreme amount of ether flooded into Wu Lei’s body.
Wu Lei didn’t know where this ether came from but relying on its roar, even a Negative Power User would be vaporized by this strike.
The Alchemy Matrix on his arm emitted the brightest light, just before the power was to erupt, it extinguished, and then Wu Lei realized his internal ether had lost control, no longer resonating with him.
Wu Lei blankly looked at Bologue, who at this moment turned away disdainfully, then quickened his pace, chasing the distant train.
On the dark wilderness, only Wu Lei stood alone, he didn’t understand what had happened, and then slender blood threads surfaced on his body.
First, his fingers broke segment by segment, then his limbs, torso, head, even the bones and internal organs were completely sliced into fragments, blood trickled into the rock crevices, emitting heat, exposing organs that attracted carrion animals, and returned to dust, leaving no trace.
The clouds in the night sky dispersed, revealing the bright moonlight, under the glow, around Wu Lei’s corpse, many thin silver threads stained with blood appeared, faint and indistinct.
Under the shockwave’s acceleration, these silver threads were as sharp as knives.
