Endless Debt Chapter 638 - 149 Explosive Combustion
Bennett checked the time. Based on the train’s speed, they had already left the city and entered the wilderness. He then glanced across the aisle, making eye contact with his colleague, Wu Lei.
After the exchange of glances, the two of them each picked up their bags and headed towards the back of the carriage.
As night descended, most of the passengers had fallen asleep in various peculiar postures. The sound of their snores resonated with the rhythm of the train’s swaying.
As they walked through carriage after carriage, more followers began to gather behind Bennett and Wu Lei. All of them were passengers who had boarded at the previous station. What was even stranger was that, apart from Bennett and Wu Lei, who remained calm and composed, the followers all eyed the passengers with an intense gaze, as if they were some kind of delicacy.
"Are we really going to rely on these guys?"
Wu Lei whispered to Bennett, his eyes filled with distrust towards the followers behind them. Even they couldn’t trust the Demons.
"We have no choice, we’re short on manpower, so we have to use these guys," Belt said, looking ahead. "They’re not much use in combat, but they’re convenient for handling the aftermath."
Wu Lei said, "By ’convenient,’ do you mean letting them eat everyone?"
Bennett showed no concern for the passengers’ lives. "Anyway, tomorrow’s newspaper will report the train derailment incident. These people are destined to die; might as well make use of it."
The two of them stopped, opened their suitcases, and took out weapons and gas masks, putting them on their faces.
"According to intelligence, the Iron Whistle of the Order Bureau is at the back of the train, with only one target. Be careful."
Bennett’s voice was low and muffled from beneath his breathing valve.
Wu Lei nodded. They didn’t act rashly but remained in place, while the followers behind them also donned gas masks and picked up various sharp tools.
They were waiting for something. Soon, a mist filled the carriages, a type of anesthetic vapor that had little effect on Condensers but could easily stupefy ordinary people.
Without making a sound, they silently took control of all the people on the train. After this was completed, they continued to move forward, the followers behind them looking longingly at the unconscious people, suppressing their own restless hearts, and continuing onward.
As long as they dealt with that Iron Whistle, they could feast.
The followers consoled themselves, suppressing their hunger.
Before pushing open the second-to-last door, Bennett warned Wu Lei, "Even if there’s only one opponent, don’t let your guard down. He’s from the Order Bureau."
"I know, I know."
Wu Lei said as he pushed the door open ahead of Bennett, revealing the final carriage.
"Phew... It’s really luxurious, having a whole carriage to itself."
Wu Lei said as he crouched down, one hand on the connection between the carriages. "Tell them to move."
Bennett nodded, and the Demons behind them received the command, readying themselves. In the corner of his eye, Bennett noticed some Demons were missing.
Probably some Demons had left the group to search for food. Bennett could already imagine them with bloodied mouths, devouring flesh and extracting souls.
Thinking of this, a disgusted expression crossed Bennett’s face. Even though they were on the same side, he couldn’t help but disdain these vile beings. If it weren’t for the lack of manpower, he wouldn’t have wanted to bring these creatures.
In order to thwart the actions of the Order Bureau, the Zongge Orchestra had dispatched a significant number of personnel to prevent the Order Bureau from targeting Free Port.
Tonight was no exception.
The two of them were in position and fully prepared, with no pesky passengers to interfere, and the Demons were starving for souls... It was time to act.
A red glow spread along Wu Lei’s arm. Just as he was about to place his hand on the connection between the carriages, he realized his body had petrified in place, unable to move. Then, a golden gaze landed on him.
Geoffrey pushed open the door, a menacing smile on his face. "Looks like we have some guests."
Negative Power User.
In an instant, the two of them understood Geoffrey’s tier, which completely contradicted their intelligence.
A chill ran down their spines, as a gentle breeze swept through, threading between each person, followed by narrow wounds extending along the necks of the Demons.
The opponent was an expert knife wielder; each strike was precise and lethal, effortlessly penetrating the spine, without causing even a trace of blood.
The bodies of the Demons drooped like melting candles, collapsing heavily to the floor with thuds.
The corpses piled up like a path paved with bodies.
Enormous fear engulfed Wu Lei’s mind; losing control of his body brought immense horror. Bennett behind him felt the same, as Geoffrey’s presence at such close range completely constrained them both.
A faint sound of footsteps came from behind; the person had already dealt with the demons, swift and deadly, and now it was time to deal with the two of them.
Just like that, to die without resistance, easily.
Wu Lei let out a beast-like howl, mobilizing the Ether throughout his body to resist Geoffrey’s suppression. His body twisted with pain, but this pain quickly transformed into pleasure.
He laughed maniacally, blood gradually seeping from his eyes, while at the same time, the Ether reaction became increasingly intense.
Geoffrey stood still, merely observing coldly, watching Wu Lei’s various reactions.
Protection·Chaotic Joy.
This power was only heard of in Bologue’s description, but now it truly appeared before Geoffrey’s eyes. Geoffrey realized this wasn’t the first time facing Protection·Chaotic Joy.
Years ago, Geoffrey and Lebius had encountered this power, but they didn’t know at the time that it originated from the devil.
"Joyful Garden..."
It was an anomalous Void Realm that troubled Geoffrey immensely, and it was there that they faced enemies with this bizarre power.
Even until the last moment of the mission, neither Geoffrey nor Lebius could catch up to Joyful Garden, letting it vanish from sight, only to return years later.
From the deeper part of the carriage, a chilling and eerie aura emerged, carrying piercing cold and fear that assaulted Wu Lei and his companion.
Blurred, ghostly blue silhouettes rose one by one, like spirits wandering in the wilderness. At this moment, the two realized that Geoffrey standing before them wasn’t the most terrifying enemy this night.
"Bastard!"
Wu Lei roared, immense pain brought forth overwhelming power. In a fleeting moment, he broke through Geoffrey’s suppression, even if for only a second, it was enough for Wu Lei.
A glowing palm forced against the connection of the carriage, Ether surged wildly.
Secret Energy·Bursting Touch.
A fleeting burst of flame ignited in Wu Lei’s palm, causing the carriage connection to melt and collapse, as if a high-temperature fire scorched the metal.
Geoffrey’s suppression hindered Wu Lei’s next move, preventing the subsequent explosion, but the instant high temperature had already burned through the connection between carriages.
The exclusive carriage violently shook, began to slow down, gradually distancing itself from the train.
A hook rope swished through the air, with the pointed end piercing the roof of the carriage. More hooks followed like tentacles, grasping the train, reconnecting the train with the exclusive carriage.
The hooks tightened, shortening the distance between them, while chains started to melt, forming large droplets of silver, like soldering tin, reforging into sturdy metal to restore the structure destroyed by Wu Lei.
The steel road was thus paved, Geoffrey gripped the serrated Bone-breaking Knife in his right hand, his eyes burned with golden light, like molten gold, striding forward.
The two were like lambs waiting to be slaughtered; when Geoffrey reached them, it would be their expiry date.
Extreme fear was consumed entirely, transforming into ultimate joy, and the subsequent Ether filled within them. They carried enthusiastic smiles, and the alchemy matrices upon them blazed fiercely, excessive Ether piled up together, erupting arcs of light.
Geoffrey’s Secret Energy invaded their Rectangular Soul Critical, under Protection·Chaotic Joy’s force, they mobilized immense Ether to counteract, gaining momentary mobility.
Bennett unhesitatingly activated his alchemy armament, thick darkness emanated from him, shrouding all light, covering surrounding matter, extending deep darkness.
Geoffrey’s gaze was interrupted, and then the Bone-breaking Knife descended with terrifying wind pressure, smashing through the darkness, yet at the end of the blade, Bennett and Wu Lei were nowhere to be seen.
Geoffrey wasn’t in a hurry; he leisurely stowed the Bone-breaking Knife, his gaze turned toward the dark and distant wilderness.
Bennett sprinted at full speed, racing rapidly through the dark wilderness. The more he feared, the stronger his power became, constantly enhancing his speed.
Realizing there was more than one Condenser in the carriage and they possessed Negative Power User capabilities, Bennett opted to escape in a different direction than Wu Lei.
The opponent wasn’t a solitary Iron Whistle but a formidable team of Negative Power Users.
Bennett didn’t know if he could survive, only mechanically moved his legs, the sound of wind engulfing his ears, then he heard a thundering echo under the night.
In the pitch-black world, Bennett saw nothing, then sensed an Ether reaction coming from behind, its intensity not high, merely of Prayer Believer Tier, yet in the next second, the distant Ether reaction suddenly appeared beside him.
Close enough to touch.
Bennett hadn’t yet reacted, the Wind Gun carried sharp Flying Knives, swiftly piercing through his waist, tearing a large chunk of flesh from his side.
His figure staggered a few steps, and a gush of blood spurted out, raising countless blood flowers, scattering over the wild grass growing thick.
