Endless Debt Chapter 1466 - 50: Raising Hell
Previously on Endless Debt...
In essence, every Condenser is like a mobile Ethereal Vortex Point, but due to the limitations of their tier, most Condensers cannot trigger phenomena in the Material Realm.
Now with a large number of Condensers gathering in this place, they are eagerly calling forth the Ether, assembling more and more Ether here.
Gradually, the concentration of Ether in the combat zone continues to rise, with the excessive gathering of Condensers forming an extraordinary effect similar to an Ethereal Vortex Point. In this high-concentration Ether environment, various transcendent phenomena also unfold, being manipulated by the Duke of Origin to strike at Bologue.
The thunderous sound of thunder lingered in the ears, and deadly ethereal lightning struck down in an instant. Driven by the Seeker of Glory, each streak of thunder was swift and lethal, like divine wrath across the sky. Bologue almost avoided them purely on instinct.
"Where is he!"
Palmer observed the surroundings, trying to find the opponent.
"I don’t know!"
While responding, Bologue manipulated the ground to rise, creating massive semi-arc barriers in front of himself, which were then shattered by the thunder.
The discharged currents spread, striking Bologue and causing paralysis while also scorching large swathes of flesh. Fortunately, Bologue had Etherealization and an Undying Body, so except for the first bolt of ethereal lightning which caused him serious injury, subsequent rounds of ethereal lightning failed to hit him directly.
"He’s out of our sight," Bologue snapped back to his senses, shouting. "Get out of here, or we’ll be sitting ducks!"
Clearly, the enemy’s Secret Energy range was vast, as vast as a mortar shell. Even before Bologue could locate him, he would be bombarded to pieces.
"Alright!"
Palmer nodded forcefully. Before the new round of ethereal lightning fell, he drew the rapier from his waist and tossed the Storm Feather in one smooth motion.
A massive amount of Ether poured into the dagger. The slender metal split into two, then into four, replicating and proliferating like bacteria, rapidly turning into a screeching flock of birds, spiraling upwards to the broken position of the High Tower.
"Help me, Lady Luck."
Palmer grasped the Lucky Dice. Like casting witchcraft, he muttered spells as a faint glow emitted from his palm, with the dice’s points constantly changing and extinguishing.
Countless daggers penetrated the building from the wind, slashing at the already precarious supporting structures like continuous soldier strikes.
Meanwhile, Bologue also manipulated the newly grown giant spike, which, amid a roaring friction sound, completely severed the High Tower at the waist.
In that moment, the world seemed to fall silent, followed by a silent tremor from the tower’s base, as if the earth’s heartbeat.
The leaning tower began to sway, and the swaying gradually intensified, seemingly responding to some deep-seated fear. Under pressure, the stone bricks began to crack, creating insurmountable crevices. As the tremor intensified, the internal structure of the tower was completely destroyed, and the foundation began to crumble.
Bologue saw large flakes like snowflakes falling off the surface of the High Tower. Even as the Condensers of the Commanding School tried to consolidate the tower, under gravity and continuous destruction, the tower’s structure was unable to maintain itself, collapsing from within.
Thus, in mid-air, the collapsing half of the tower shattered with a resounding crash, peeling off heavy debris continuously that crashed to the ground, raising a plume of dust.
The tier of Condensers from the Commanding School wasn’t very high, and naturally, their Secret Energy’s range wouldn’t be wide. Thus, most of them were within the coverage of the tower’s collapse.
Either they continued to support it, or they were buried under the falling rubble.
The outcome was clear.
"Damn it!"
The Duke of Origin saw this scene from afar. He had no means of rescue, only able to watch the tower collapse amidst the rising dust.
Huge debris carried numerous smaller fragments, like a meteor shower smashing into the other side of the High Tower. The deafening crash echoed in the air, and the tower transformed into a heap of stones and dust during the collapse.
The spire rolled in the air, ultimately crashing heavily onto the ground, bringing about a new round of chaos.
At that moment, the entire city was shaken by the loud crash. People paused, stood still, their faces filled with shock and fear.
Billowing smoke rose tens of meters high, like a large smoke bomb, directly covering the whole area. Amid the chaos, countless people wailed, and many were trapped beneath the debris, only able to let out helpless groans.
The bloodshot eyes of the Duke of Origin saw a scenario that the All Secrets Order most feared.
High-tier Condensers possess immense destructive power. To prevent the destruction of local assets, they employed tactics of showcasing weakness, exiling Nesanel to the Ethereal Realm, and dispatching two Dukes along with numerous Condensers to control Holt and his group.
This was all to neutralize them before the battle began, reducing the city’s devastation to its lowest degree. Everything was executed perfectly, yet two managed to escape, and just these two toppled a High Tower in an instant.
The Duke of Origin exchanged a glance with the Spirit Duke, who calmly stated, "A Seeker of Glory must restrain them."
After a moment of silence, the Duke of Origin replied, "Immediately take them to the Ancestral Council, transform high-tier Condensers into Fantasy Species, low-tier Condensers into Blood Folk."
Holt’s pupils contracted as he realized he overheard something he shouldn’t have.
Transform into Fantasy Species? What does this mean? Isn’t this an ability exclusive to the Illusion Creation School?
Suppressing his curiosity, Holt obediently followed them, but before departing, the Duke of Origin looked unwillingly at the massive cloud of dust like a sandstorm.
"I won’t let you off so easily."
He spoke softly, and reality twisted in response.
Ether gathered and piled up above the ruins of the High Tower, like a wrathful god of thunder. Hundreds of ethereal lightning bolts appeared out of thin air, transforming into serpents striking the earth, indiscriminately bombarding the ruins.
In addition, ethereal flames twisted into existence as well.
As a Seeker of Glory from the Origin School, the Duke of Origin’s control over ether had reached its pinnacle, with thunder and fire appearing as if divine retribution had descended.
"Run quickly!"
Screams echoed through the dust, followed by a strong gust of wind dispersing the dust that obscured sight.
The fierce wind surrounded Palmer as he moved through the ruins with a face full of grief and indignation, carrying Bologue on his shoulder. This fellow had just been struck by several bolts of lightning and had barely awakened from unconsciousness, emitting a scent of roasted flesh.
As Palmer had expected, rising in tier also meant increased responsibility and facing ever more powerful enemies.
Look at this, he had just advanced to Negative Power User and now he was face to face with a Seeker of Glory. Who knows what he would encounter next?
"Think of something, Bologue!"
Palmer turned his head and shouted at Bologue, who was being carried.
"I’m thinking of something."
Bologue’s voice was weak. Being directly hit by a Seeker of Glory’s power was truly uncomfortable, but compared to when he was a Negative Power User fighting the First Seat, his current state was much better. More importantly, Palmer was unexpectedly reliable.
Thanks to the air disturbances brought by Secret Energy· Wind’s Breath, although it seemed like Palmer was running with him on his shoulder, in reality, they were skimming the ground. If not for the fear of becoming a target for the Duke of Origin by taking to the air, Palmer would have likely already flown high with him.
"Escape outside! To the Wasteland District!"
While directing, Bologue continued to wield ether. He did not interrupt to block the omnipresent thunderfire, as directly clashing with a Seeker of Glory’s power was not a wise choice. Therefore, Bologue’s target was the surrounding buildings.
Ether infused the earth; within the domain range, all was Bologue’s territory. Previously, Bologue had to infiltrate his own ether into matter, but upon advancing to Defender, he could easily convert the neutral ether within the domain into his own strength.
In an instant, all matter within the domain obeyed Bologue’s command. Gradually, Palmer noticed the ground trembling and faint wails emanating from deep within.
"What are you doing?" Palmer asked with a hint of panic.
Bologue did not answer, but soon after, the ground beneath them suddenly cracked. A huge fissure spanned the square and streets, extending towards the towers.
Thunder and fire descended with scorching heat and continuous shockwaves, like an intense bombardment. Amidst the chaotic fire light, the earth bore heavy scars, and Bologue mercilessly tore it apart, shaking the tower foundations along with it.
Everyone saw it — several towers along the path began to shake lightly, then more violently, until they tilted and fell.
Bologue had no time to admire his handiwork. Under Palmer’s skimming flight, the two narrowly escaped the bombing range of thunder and fire.
"Olivia!" Bologue called out.
A rough perception told Bologue that they had already rushed out of the Duke of Origin’s domain range. Bologue decisively extinguished his own ether reaction, and Palmer followed suit by retracting his Secret Energy release. Meanwhile, the shadow beneath Bologue expanded vastly, and a dark curtain enveloped both of them again.
The absolute Ethereal Concealment descended, completely severing Bologue and Palmer’s aura. They transformed into a swiftly moving mass of darkness, plunging into the Wasteland District.
The people in the Wasteland District had no idea what happened that day. They only saw one tower after another collapsing, with consecutive explosions sending up towering flames.
At this moment, there were no passersby on the streets. Everyone hid in their homes, praying that disaster would not strike them.
In the shadow of an alley, Bologue and Palmer sat side by side next to a trash can, faint shadows covering them and lingering for a long time.
"Though I’ve long despised the All Secrets Order, I never imagined I’d cause such a commotion."
After regaining his composure, Palmer seemed much more at ease. Or perhaps he had grown numb, adapting to the situation.
"Indeed, causing a commotion, it’s truly insane."
A cold voice sounded. Palmer was about to respond when he realized the voice was neither from Bologue nor from Olivia.
Palmer warily looked towards the end of the alley. The Duke of Illusions, Ossana, stood there with an indifferent expression.
Damn, another duke!
Palmer abruptly stood up, raising the rapier in his hand, but before he could make a move, Bologue stopped him.
"Relax."
Bologue soothed Palmer and then asked Ossana, "What on earth happened?"
Ossana remained silent until another rumble echoed from afar, sounding like the collapse of a tower. She sighed helplessly and gestured.
"Follow me."
