Endless Debt Chapter 1447 - 41: Pitiful
Previously on Endless Debt...
In the dimly lit room, Olivia leaned against Bologue, as if giving Bologue a warm embrace, yet also as if ready to thrust a dagger through Bologue’s chest... To Bologue, these two seemed almost indistinguishable.
Bologue looked at Olivia impassively, the hazy black veil shrouding her entire figure, like a mist that blurred her form and features into a dreamlike haze.
This must be some kind of Alchemy Armament that blocks sunlight, much like a sun-protective suit, allowing Olivia a degree of mobility under the daylight.
Warm breaths were close at hand. Staring at this misty figure, Bologue suddenly realized he had never seen Olivia’s true face. An inexplicable urge surged within him as he cautiously lifted his hand toward Olivia’s ear, attempting to unveil this mysterious veil.
Olivia remained silent, holding onto that subtle smile, her gaze intertwining with Bologue’s, mingling crimson with deep blue, like color swatches blurred together on a palette.
"Is this also the connection between bloodlines?"
Bologue’s hand paused in mid-air, his voice clear and formal.
Olivia’s smile vanished, her gaze tinged with slight disappointment, "I suppose it is. Within the Night Race, the purity of bloodlines grants upper-tier Night Race members complete domination over lower-tier ones."
"It’s something like this..." Bologue furrowed his brow, pondering before he found a term to describe the sensation, "Hypnosis?"
"I suppose, it’s a relatively gentle approach."
Olivia shifted her stance, leaning to the side, maintaining a safe distance from Bologue, "Just like the gap between Condensers, using myself as an example, the greater the bloodline disparity, the less lower-tier Night Race can resist me. Whatever I command, they are compelled to execute, like the most inferior Bloodthirsty."
"However, as the bloodline discrepancy narrows, this compulsion loses efficacy, replaced by a mysterious sense of closeness from the lower-tier Night Race towards me."
Olivia turned to assess Bologue, whispering gently, "Just like what you did earlier."
"You inexplicably develop an affinity towards me, subconsciously trusting me excessively, allowing me to invisibly manipulate you, akin to hypnosis."
"But I broke free."
"Guess your willpower is strong,"
Olivia said with a tone of disappointment, "I was hoping to see you make a fool of yourself."
"I’m sure there’s more to it than that?"
Bologue feigned ignorance of Olivia’s prior words, "I bear the blood of Serey, so presumably, its purity should surpass yours."
"But that blood is too thin, plus you aren’t truly of the Night Race," Olivia replied, "If you were a true Night Race member, perhaps you’d be bowing before me now."
"Is this how you sustain the Eternal Night Empire? Such absolute iron rules might indeed be suitable for maintaining control." Bologue selectively ignored Olivia’s words.
"Alright, alright, this method is also contingent on the other party’s Tier. I can’t seduce a Defender or Seeker of Glory with mere words." Olivia confessed.
"Hmm..."
Bologue’s sleepiness dissipated substantially, replaced by curiosity about the Night Race.
The Order Bureau’s archives don’t have detailed records on the Night Race, mainly because by the time the Order Bureau was established, the Dawn War had passed for many years. During the Dawn War, due to the Night Race’s tight-knit and enclosed governing structure, it was difficult for the humans to infiltrate and gather intelligence; much later information came from Serey’s betrayal.
Thus, though the Eternal Night Empire perished, many mysteries about this eerie and enigmatic bloodline group remain unresolved to humanity.
Bologue once attempted to extract some useful information from Serey, but back then, Serey’s mind was ravaged by alcohol, spewing nothing but names of women.
Perhaps today, he might confirm these mysteries through Olivia’s words.
"We divide different bloodlines based on the direct lineage of the Night King, i.e., various Night Race Lords; each bloodline represents a faction within the Night Race, and among different bloodlines, this form of power doesn’t universally apply."
Olivia explained, "So this convenient power cannot be abused."
"Did you use this power on the Regent King?" Bologue’s tone suddenly turned serious, clearing away the earlier rosy atmosphere, "Did you use it on him before he received the Night King’s second Blood Donation?"
Olivia could have completely controlled the Regent King, nipping the series of disasters in the bud, yet the situation spiraled out of control.
The room fell silent, Olivia’s expression dimmed, her gaze shifting out the window, gazing at the dazzling lights of the towering High Tower.
"Just as you discussed with Ossana earlier, we inherently possess the cheat codes to twist reality, can manipulate those around us at will, bending everything into the facade we desire."
Olivia murmured, "Before everything went out of control, I could indeed manipulate the Regent King. Just by slightly using this power, he would become obsessively enamored with me, even if I commanded him to die for me, he’d do so willingly."
"But... is this truly good, Bologue?"
"You desire happiness and love; this way you could attain happiness and love, what’s bad about it?" Bologue pretended not to understand.
