Endless Debt Chapter 1348 - 107: Double Helix (2)
Previously on Endless Debt...
Suddenly, part of the swirling ashes stilled in mid-air, and then a blue apparition emerged, advancing several meters forward. After a brief delay, Bologue burst out from the Curved Pathway Rift.
This time, he finally reached the end of the corridor, where the towering Curved Path Gate was gradually crumbling. Bologue could see the darkness boiling fiercely, as if it would vaporize in the next second.
Yet this time, even at such a close distance, Bologue could no longer cross over.
Patches of ashes clung to Bologue’s surface, burning directly through his skin and muscle tissue, forming charred black spots all over his body.
Even though Bologue was an Undead endowed with Etherization, even the ashes clinging to his body carried only the residual warmth of the radiant glow.
And yet, among the ashes, there was a fleeting spark from the radiant glow.
In an instant, Bologue’s entire left arm, along with most of his chest cavity, was fully ignited, his flesh turning black, carbonized, and even reducing directly to blocks of salt, sticking together.
Bologue wanted to say something, but his throat had already fused shut, his eyes evaporated, vision plunged into darkness.
Reluctantly, he admitted that this extreme burning sensation brought back many terrible memories, but what saddened him more was that he never thought he would fall at this step.
His consciousness plummeted straight into the dark, until the remaining senses on his body surface allowed Bologue to realize that someone seemed to pull him back.
"This is the contingency plan!"
As Bologue’s body was consumed by the radiant glow, Aimou decisively detached himself from Bologue’s body, shouting while grabbing the Vengeful Saw Axe from Bologue’s waist.
Quickly recalling the information Bologue had once shared about his Undying Body, Aimou swung the Hand Axe without hesitation, first chopping off Bologue’s left arm to stop the spreading fire before it could consume more.
"Sorry about this!"
Aimou then swung the axe horizontally at Bologue’s waist and abdomen with great force, mechanical body beneath releasing bursts of overheated steam.
A precise double stroke, like a scalpel, separated the burning flesh from the body.
Aimou looked at the encroaching fire, witnessing the iron boxes created by Deceitful Snake Scale Liquid vanishing one by one into the flames, the hard-earned data buried within.
For a moment, an inexplicable frenzy circled in Aimou’s heart, but she suppressed that irrational urge, grabbing Bologue’s severed body, leaning back, and falling into the collapsing darkness.
The silhouettes of the two vanished into the Curved Path Gate, followed by an influx of ashes through the gap, bringing the true radiant glow, pure light engulfing everything like a tidal wave.
Aimou only felt as if she had fallen from a great height, crashing to the ground, covered in bruises.
In her Steel Body state, her senses were significantly dulled, and even completely blocked, yet the returned data, in numerical form, warned Aimou of the dire situation.
Vaguely, Aimou heard Bologue’s painful groans as her vision gradually cleared up. Struggling to get up from the ground, she saw the scorched Bologue not far away.
Until turning into charcoal, Bologue still clung tightly to Wrath Bite, the blade seemingly fused with his flesh, inseparable.
Aimou checked herself; despite having multiple injuries, they did not hinder her movement, yet the Alchemy Potions she carried were all destroyed, leaving her unable to rapidly heal Bologue.
"Bologue."
Aimou called softly, but Bologue showed no reaction. He seemed trapped in a nightmare, unable to awaken, his self-healing significantly slowed, apparently suppressed by the radiant glow.
Soon, Bologue’s breathing became labored, blood foam spitting from his mouth. Aimou attempted to lift Bologue’s body, but upon touching him, Aimou realized Bologue’s heart had stopped beating.
Bologue was dead.
This was quite a result, but Bologue’s wounds were too severe this time. Even though Aimou managed to separate him from the radiant glow in time, Bologue suffered grave injuries, and according to his resurrection pattern, it would take him a long time to wake again.
Aimou laboriously hoisted Bologue’s remnants onto her back, grabbing the Vengeful Saw Axe and Wrath Bite, finally having the time to peer at her surroundings. Gleaming, pristine crystalline walls appeared before her eyes.
The searing intention of death gradually dissipated, the air filled with a kind of refreshing chill, like the breeze of a summer night.
Aimou looked up, the crystalline walls extending upwards along two intertwined spiral staircases, strange symbols faintly appearing beneath the crystal, seemingly encoded with all life’s mysteries, a genetic double helix.
Obscure azure light filtered down from the top of the spiral staircases, like the faint moonlight from the sky, illuminating those concealed corners and shadows deep within, along with countless drifting particles of dust.
The dust under the dim light seemed like stars being lit, slowly dancing in the air.
Aimou reached out, trying to touch these stars. Whenever Aimou attempted to grasp them, they slipped away from Aimou’s fingertips.
