Endless Debt Chapter 1188 - 31: Spiral of Contradiction (2)
Previously on Endless Debt...
Tino had heard the legends about Bologue; once you fell into his hands, a swift death would be a blessing instead.
Tino felt this now, as the blood covering the ground just reached his shoes, and faintly, he could still feel the warmth of the blood.
"I only need one survivor," Bologue said to Tino.
Tino paused; he knew what would happen next, but the mere thought of death made an even greater fear control his mind, causing him to involuntarily speak.
"I..."
Recalling the horrific scenes of others compressed into blood spheres, Tino uncontrollably shouted out.
"I! I!"
Bologue nodded lightly, and before anyone else could react, they collapsed one by one into twisted lumps of flesh and blood spheres, unable to even scream before they burst into torrents of blood that painted the walls thoroughly.
Blood dripped onto Tino, the residual warmth burning his skin like fire, stinging his nerves.
According to their squad configuration, Tino’s team had the strength to sweep through the entire town, yet they were massacred by Bologue in an instant. It wasn’t a battle, but a one-sided slaughter.
After dealing with these people, Bologue looked at York again, his hand brushing against the blood-stained thorns as he asked softly.
"Do you know what this is, Priest?"
York opened his mouth; his throat was filled with thorns, crawling like worms. Upon seeing this, Bologue casually opened a case, taking out the restless Vengeful Saw Axe.
Once the Hand Axe was freed from the metal restraints, the two Original Sin weapons sensed each other’s presence like hungry beasts smelling prey, howling in rage.
In an instant, Bologue’s mind was filled with profane voices, one voice enticing him to swing the Hand Axe and behead York. The same voice echoed incessantly in York’s mind, but due to the power disparity, he could do nothing but remain angry.
"Does this happen by completely surrendering body and mind to the Original Sin Armament?"
Bologue fully ignored those mad voices, scrutinizing the changes in the Vengeful Saw Axe and Thorny Pain Lock like a scientific investigation.
The original chains transformed into dense thorns, seemingly merged with York, turning him into a monster wildly swinging spikes, while the Vengeful Saw Axe in Bologue’s hand also attempted to merge with him.
Bologue guessed that if he were completely dominated by the Vengeful Saw Axe, he would become similar to what York appeared now.
"Like... like a vessel for the Devil."
Bologue remembered Vika, the bald bartender, whose main role besides everyday work was being a vessel for Mammon.
The Original Sin Armament now seemed similar; when the bearer is fully consumed by it, the bearer becomes an unconscious vessel, with the raging shattered will truly controlling the form.
Continuing this line of thought, what happens when numerous bearers are down to one champion?
When the Champion of Blood collects all the Original Sin Armament, does it also mean the champion gathers all the Fragments of Fury, piecing together the true... Sin of Wrath: Eyes of Eternal Fury?
Suddenly, Bologue began to doubt Sai Zong’s words to him, telling him to collect the Original Sin Armament. Was it to awaken the Eyes of Eternal Fury? Yet if Sai Zong really wanted to awaken the Eyes of Eternal Fury, he could have done it himself over the century instead of informing Bologue.
However... the continuous killings by Original Sin Armament might actually stir the awakening of the Eyes of Eternal Fury; Bologue deeply felt this as he often heard those sinister whispers with prolonged possession of the Vengeful Saw Axe.
If the Original Sin Armament is scattered, it is easily grasped, but gathering them might piece together the complete Eyes of Eternal Fury. Though this seems contradictory, understanding it as the Devil’s nature makes it reasonable.
The Devil itself is the embodiment of desire, a relentless obsession moving forward; the very thought of Eyes of Eternal Fury desiring peace contradicts the essence of wrath.
Like the contradiction between Protection and Curse.
"Sounds like a malformed spiral."
Bologue muttered to himself, then grabbed the thorns piercing through York’s body. With the invasion of Ether, Secret Energy·Commanding Decree fully dominated York’s body.
He pulled forcefully.
Accompanied by the sound of ripping flesh, Bologue forcefully pulled out a mass of blood soaked thorns, tearing through most of York’s body.
York’s body fell heavily into the blood pool, seemingly drained, yet with the Undying Body, he was not dead; in his dying moments, the blood spread across the ground surged back towards York.
As long as there is enough blood, the Night Race will not die. This was experience Bologue learned earlier, often leaving Night Race out in the sun to burn, pulling them back half-burned to feed them blood. This interrogation method was highly effective; after two or three rounds, everything they should and shouldn’t say was confessed.
Separating from York’s body, the thorn mass writhed violently but quickly returned to peace, becoming a rigid, rust-covered empty shell.
With a stomp, he crushed the empty shell, finding amidst the debris a chain filled with barbs quietly soaking in blood.
Under Bologue’s suppression, Thorny Pain Lock returned to its original form. Bologue then put the Vengeful Saw Axe aside, tired of the endless whispers in his mind.
York seemed to need more time to heal, so Bologue plopped down on a half-crumbled bench nearby, directly questioning Tino.
"Why is the Rotting Blood Sect here?"
Bologue continued, "Is it for the creature inside the Abandoned Land?"
Tino hesitated for a moment, during which his entire arm bizarrely twisted and folded, the bones fracturing in sections, tendons and muscles tangled.
Tino sweated profusely from pain, he wanted to howl, but his throat felt blocked, unable to make a sound.
Bologue asked, "I ask, you answer, is this difficult?"
Tino bravely nodded, and in the next moment, he realized he could speak again, teeth chattering.
"Ye... yes, we want to liberate it."
"How do you plan to do that?" Bologue pressed further, "I mean, how do you plan to liberate it? That’s the Abandoned Land; it’s not an easy task to conquer it."
After the Decay Epidemic incident, the Abandoned Land was left exposed; to ensure the area’s security, Group Four, Desperate Outpost was completely mobilized.
In previous days, due to leisure, Group Four was thought to be a good place for retirement, but with orders issued, Group Four swiftly fortified the Abandoned Land over months, transforming it into a fortress supporting Void Realm·Serenity Defense Line.
Bologue thought, even though the Rotting Blood Sect was full of lunatics, they wouldn’t be mad enough not to realize the Order Bureau’s actions; a rash attack would lead to their annihilation. They must be plotting something, some means to breakthrough Group Four.
"Speak."
Tino shook his head, "I’m just a Prayer Believer; only the Bishop knows the full plan."
Just as he spoke, Bologue broke Tino’s other arm, but evidently, pain could no longer force Tino, leaving Bologue to speak inwardly.
"Aimou, can you help?"
Secret Energy·Heart Overlapping Shadow can probe others’ minds, also understood as searching others’ memories like the Void Spirit School’s methods.
Aimou still had some resistance towards such actions, rarely doing it unless necessary, but evidently, she couldn’t refuse Bologue’s requests.
"Okay."
An imaginary arm extended from Bologue’s chest; just as it was about to touch Tino, everyone heard a graceful chuckle.
In an instant, the blood covering the chapel boiled, and when it settled again, it transformed into a smooth blood-red mirror.
Tino seemed to know what was about to happen, struggled frantically, while Bologue’s gaze grew intense; he distinctly felt a searing pain from his chest.
The long-existing mark burned.
Bologue knew who was coming.
