“Impudent!” The middle-aged man’s fists were clenched so tightly that the veins on his temples visibly bulged. His gaze, fixed upon his foe, was one of absolute, irreconcilable animosity. “Ting Er is my daughter! How dare you humiliate her in such a manner?”
It was clear that to him, only Mu Ting Er and Mu Yi Xue were his true daughters. Mu Ru Yue, in his eyes, was merely an illegitimate offspring daring to verbally assault his cherished daughter.
“Father, let’s just let this matter rest,” Mu Ting Er pleaded, her hand gripping the middle-aged man’s arm. She bit her lip as she shook her head. “I understand that I am merely an adopted daughter in the Mu family. Ever since losing my biological father at a young age, all I desire is your love.”
A deep sigh escaped the middle-aged man. “Ting Er, when your father perished after saving my mother, I vowed to treat you as if you were my own flesh and blood. How could I possibly permit anyone to harm you?”
He spoke these words while casting a dark, menacing glare at Mu Ru Yue.
It was undeniable that Mu Ru Yue was the target of his pointed reference…
“Father, the Crown Prince is still present,” Mu Ting Er whispered, her head bowed low.
As before, no one detected the subtle sneer that flickered across her lips. Her act was not intended to elicit a pardon from Mu Ru Yue, but rather to appeal to His Highness’s known preference for compassionate women—the very trait that had captured his heart.
“Hehe! Your Highness, I fear I have incurred your displeasure,” the middle-aged man apologized, cupping his fist in a gesture of respect. His gaze then shifted back to Mu Ru Yue. With a frown, he commanded, his tone cool, “Why are you still lingering here? Be gone with you! In the future, should you dare to loiter and disrupt the time between His Highness and Ting Er again, I will break your legs!”
A frigid glint flashed within Mu Ru Yue’s eyes. However, having only recently arrived on this continent, she elected to first process the influx of information. She quietly retreated towards her quarters, her mind replaying memories, after casting a bone-chilling stare at her father, Mu Qing.
Mu Qing flinched, startled. Could that gaze truly belong to his daughter? Putting the matter aside, he turned his attention back to Ye Tian Feng. “Your Highness, Ting Er is an unmarried maiden, yet she has already given her innocence to you. I know not when His Highness plans to annul his engagement with that… trash, and take Ting Er as your wife.”
Ye Tian Feng’s sword-like brows furrowed. After a brief pause, he responded, “Master of the Mu Family. Ting Er will undoubtedly become my Main Wife, the Crown Prince’s wife. I cannot yet inform my Royal Grandfather of the intimate relationship I have shared with Ting Er. Otherwise, knowing my Royal Grandfather, he might merely grant Ting Er the status of a concubine for such an act before marriage. In that scenario, I would feel I had wronged Ting Er by offering her merely the rank of a concubine.”
His Ting Er was so exquisite and exceptional; only she deserved the status of Main Wife.
“In that case, what are Your Highness’s intentions moving forward?”
“In a few months, a grand Martial Tournament will be held in the Royal City. Ting Er is currently a Practitioner at the Third Martial Stage. There will be few young competitors capable of defeating her. Should she emerge victorious, my Royal Grandfather will undoubtedly hold her in higher esteem. At that juncture, I shall introduce her to my martial master. My Royal Grandfather cannot disregard the words of my master, especially given his standing as an alchemist.”
Alchemist…
Mu Qing’s breath hitched, his eyes suddenly alight with fervor. Rare items commanded high value due to their scarcity, and thus, alchemists enjoyed a position of great prestige across the continent. If one could secure the friendship of an alchemist, the future acquisition of medicinal pills would cease to be a concern.
“Your Highness, rest assured. Ting Er will undoubtedly emerge victorious in that grand Martial Tournament. Hehe! As you have noted, the number of talents in this Royal City who could possibly surpass Ting Er is truly negligible.”
Mu Qing beamed, brimming with confidence in the precious daughter he had raised for nearly a decade.
