However, for Orion, a fact unknown to Falad, Thaddeus presented the most suitable option.
But haste was essential; it seemed they were under partial observation, and detection was not an option.
This situation necessitated Orion's infiltration into the capital. While the infiltration team had exerted considerable effort, their actions were constrained. Although they had succeeded in maneuvering and gathering significant intelligence, it remained insufficient.
The critical issue was the inherent risk, and Orion harbored a strong aversion to uncertainty.
He moved like a phantom through the night, utilizing his Aether Step to mask his presence and movements. He had managed to analyze and develop a method to bypass Thaddeus' Spatial Veil. While his technique was a far cry from Thaddeus' innate ability, he had gleaned valuable insights into concealment, which he intended to explore further in future projects.
Approaching the wall, he observed signs of patrol activity around the perimeter. These guards were absent during the day but present at night.
A part of Orion considered the possibility that their surveillance systems were inactive during nighttime hours. Nevertheless, he rejected this line of thought, suspecting it might be a deliberate deception, and refused to be ensnared.
Protocol and Temporal Locus were activated immediately, working in unison. His spatial sense mapped the environment, and these combined abilities guided him along the most efficient route to evade detection.
His legs moved with swiftness, his boots making no sound upon the ground.
Soon, he detected a familiar presence approaching from the other side of the wall: Thaddeus.
His spatial sense could not perceive Thaddeus, only Temporal Locus indicated his proximity, suggesting Thaddeus was already employing stealth.
Following the protocol for his dual skills, he deftly navigated through the patrols before teleporting a meter above the wall.
Thaddeus, on the other side, had also sensed Orion. Maintaining his stealth, he mirrored Orion's action, joining him in the air above the wall.
They met mid-air, extending their arms to grasp each other.
Thaddeus promptly activated Veil Weave before they both teleported to the interior side of the wall.
Lingering was not an option; Thaddeus took the lead, guiding Orion towards their current sanctuary.
Orion followed in silence, his gaze sweeping across the domain of the Sylgrid. It was late, and the usual clamor and activity were nearly absent, yet he diligently observed the individuals present.
He could discern an atmosphere of joy and relaxation.
Orion was certain that the majority of the Sylgrid were oblivious to the impending events, which made their apparent happiness somewhat surprising. Perhaps they were simply pleased to be partaking in a celebration or event.
Orion's thoughts turned to the Sylgrid who were aware. Based on the intelligence from the infiltration group, the underworld knew about the ongoing event and its implications, though the group had not ascertained the precise nature of these implications.
However, such details were now irrelevant; he had arrived and intended to acquire all necessary information, having already formulated several strategies.
A few minutes later, they reached the hotel. Thaddeus opened the room door, and Orion entered. He immediately observed his companions, each occupied with their respective activities. Some attempted to rest, though their tension was palpable; others were wide awake, their faces etched with the strain of stress.
His attention settled on Seris, who stood beside Jalen, the latter appearing weary with closed eyes, still sketching. Seris wore a serious expression.
They had not yet noticed Orion, thanks to Thaddeus. Orion subtly signaled Thaddeus to drop the concealment, and instantly, their eyes snapped towards him.
"Onion boy!" Naturally, Arlen was the first to greet him, earning him a slap from Selene.
Orion offered a smile. He had much to discuss with them, but priorities dictated their immediate actions.
"What's the situation?"
Seris smiled, her gaze meeting Orion's, relief evident on her face.
Despite the meticulous planning and expectation of smooth progress, a slim possibility of failure remained, a prospect that was dire given their current predicament.
Seris moved closer to him and narrated all that had transpired since their arrival. While much had already been communicated through their bracelets, she could now add every intricate detail.
Upon her conclusion, Orion was seated, a contemplative expression on his face.
"Any changes in the past two days?" Orion inquired.
"Apart from the noticeable increase in security and guards deployed throughout the capital, not much," Erevan responded, leaning against the wall.
"Our primary concern at present is whether the report of our presence has reached the Emperor," Selene remarked.
"We've been making frequent visits to their sanctuary, and thus far, there have been no indicators, but we cannot be entirely certain," Erevan added.
"And let's not forget our esteemed Falad; for all we know, he…" Arlen began, reminding them.
"He's definitely plotting something," Orion interjected quietly.
"If his reputation has already set such a precedent, we shouldn't hold out hope for better; that would be foolish," Orion stated with a sigh.
"Furthermore, it doesn't add up for someone who's been evading danger for so long to end up in the clutches of a traitor like Jak," he concluded.
"So, he led us here intentionally to be captured?" Thaddeus inquired, his brow raised.
"It must be something more than that," Erevan asserted.
"Like what?" Arlen questioned.
"That line of thinking is unproductive; we know nothing about him, and our information is scarce," Selene corrected.
Arlen let out a dramatic sigh.
CLAP!
Orion clapped his hands, intending to capture their attention.
"We are getting off track, and we cannot afford that. Too much is at stake. We'll handle this step by step," Orion declared, his gaze moving across each of them.
They all gave a nod in agreement.
"Good, now let's figure out our next move," Orion said, his attention shifting towards Jalen, who was still drawing figures.
