Yohan let out a heavy breath after eavesdropping on the exchange between Aella and Aira. It was now undeniable that these two women arrived with a hidden agenda. Just moments ago, Aira had been poised to strike, urging Aella to join her in an assault to subdue him, yet Aella had inexplicably restrained her from acting.
"Could they truly be here to assist the royals? I’ve caused immense grief for the King; he likely begged the Imperial family to extract him from this mess... there is no other logical reason for them to visit such a dilapidated region!" Yohan muttered under his breath. Staring out his window with a vacant gaze, he felt a surge of rage. These women were masking their ulterior motives behind a facade of sweetness. For a brief second, he had almost been swayed by Aella’s kind demeanor, but the realization that they had already deceived his naive mother—convincing Alena that Aella was her loyal supporter—made his blood boil.
"Grandpa Leon warned me. There are no allies to be found on my mother’s side of the family. My aunts and uncles are nothing but ruthless rivals devoid of any genuine love. I nearly disregarded the words Leon spoke before he departed... he told me never to lower my guard around those who once caused my mother pain," Yohan whispered to himself, recalling the stern advice Leon gave while entrusting Alena to his protection.
’Mother is likely overjoyed to see her after all this time, almost forgetting the scars that family inflicted upon her. Learning the truth about Aunt Aella will surely shatter her heart, but it cannot be helped. I won't permit anyone to manipulate my mother’s emotions. These two must pay for their deception; they will regret the day they set foot here,’ Yohan thought, his knuckles whitening as he clenched his fists. As he turned to exit the room, he was startled to find a familiar figure standing directly in his path.
"Jasmine..." Yohan said softly. Noticing her apprehensive expression, he quickly moved toward her, his anger replaced by immediate worry.
"What is it, Jasmine? Are you feeling sick? Is something wrong?" he inquired, gently placing a hand on her forehead to check for a fever or any signs of physical distress.
"Yohan, what’s going on? You are always so attuned to your surroundings. Whenever I try to sneak up on you, you notice instantly, but this time... what is weighing on your mind? Are you okay?" Jasmine asked, taking his hand into hers with an expression of deep concern.
Yohan was taken aback by her observation. She was right; his situational awareness was usually flawless, yet he had been so preoccupied that he hadn't sensed Jasmine’s presence behind him at all.
"It’s nothing for you to worry about, Jasmine. Everything is fine," Yohan replied, pulling her into a warm embrace. He began to stroke her hair softly, deciding not to mention the two women. He didn't want to burden her with such stress, knowing she would fall into a panic if she discovered the truth regarding his aunt’s intentions.
"You are definitely keeping something from me. I have this strange intuition... please, tell me what is bothering you!" Jasmine looked up at him, her eyes filled with unease. Yohan offered a gentle smile at her concern and softly brushed his fingers against her cheek.
"It truly is nothing, Jasmine. I’m just feeling a bit of pressure regarding the role of family head. I worry about how things will shift once I become the Patriarch of this Sect. I never sought this position, but one cannot abandon the obligations owed to the clan and its people. I have no choice but to accept the mantle," Yohan explained. Jasmine remained quiet for a moment before cupping his face in her palms to meet his eyes.
"So that’s what’s on your mind... it’s only natural to feel anxious given the weight of such a duty. But Yohan, you aren't doing this alone. You have me, Sister Diya, Natasha, and the others. We are standing right beside you, and you can always lean on us. Lady Alena is also there; she has successfully led the clan for years. Besides, I am certain you will be a magnificent leader who takes this clan to new heights," Jasmine said with a reassuring smile.
Captivated by her smile, Yohan pressed a kiss to her forehead and gazed into her eyes.
"Thank you, Jasmine. You are my pillar of strength. I will remember what you said," Yohan whispered before leaning in to kiss her.
Meanwhile, in a different part of the Lin Clan estate, two figures were bowed on their knees. They knelt before a flickering holographic projection of a woman seated upon a throne shrouded in shadows. Only her piercing, dark blue eyes were visible, locked onto the two subordinates before her.
"Where is the boy?" the woman demanded in a voice that commanded absolute authority. Both Aira and Aella shivered at the heavy, oppressive aura of her voice. Cold sweat beaded on their brows, yet they kept their gazes fixed on the floor, not daring to look at the image.
"My Lady... I beg your forgiveness, but the situation has become far more complex. If we attempt to seize him by force, our survival is not guaranteed. We require immediate reinforcements; we are running out of time!" Aella reported.
"Are you suggesting you are incapable of managing a nineteen-year-old boy?" the woman replied, her tone dripping with disappointment and displeasure.
"He is no ordinary teenager. Had I not intervened, he likely would have killed Aira. A terrifying darkness is hidden within that boy..." Aella countered. She began to describe Yohan’s Cultivation level and his chilling combat power. She further detailed the formidable companions that guarded him. The woman on the throne listened with an air of indifference, seemingly already aware of most facts. Even the news of Evelyn’s betrayal didn't move her, but her eyes sparked with sudden interest when Aella mentioned Yohan’s miraculous healing powers.
"My Lady, we must have help. If we strike now, we face Evelyn and his other allies, and the boy himself is a force to be reckoned with. Failure is certain otherwise," Aella urged, gritting her teeth. The woman stared at Aella in silence for a long moment before finally speaking.
"I will send two more Warlords. They shall arrive within forty-eight hours. Until then, you must manage on your own," the woman declared. A moment later, the hologram vanished into thin air.
