Dragon Monarch System Chapter 1142:- A Chance to Become Dragonians - Part I

~6 minute read · 1,616 words

An elderly man, around eight hundred and nineteen years old, sat quietly on a wooden chair in the garden of his estate. The night was peaceful, and the cool moonlight illuminated the surrounding plants and trees. However, the old man paid little attention to anything around him. His gaze remained fixed on the moon hanging high above the sky as he silently waited for someone.

He remained there for quite some time before hurried footsteps finally broke the silence of the garden. Two figures quickly approached from behind him. They were his children, and judging from how hastily they had arrived, it was obvious that they had rushed here as soon as they were able to free themselves from their responsibilities.

"Father!"

The elderly man did not turn around after hearing their voices. His eyes remained calmly fixed on the moon as he acknowledged their arrival. "You two have come."

"Yes. We apologize for making you wait."

"The reason we were late is..." Before either of them could explain further, the elderly man casually raised his hand and stopped them. There was no need for an explanation because he already knew exactly why they had arrived late.

Ever since preparations for the civil war began, he had deliberately placed his children in charge of most of the Fujiwara Household’s responsibilities. While he remained mostly on the sidelines, attending important meetings, gathering information, and keeping himself informed about the overall situation, his children were responsible for handling the actual preparations.

Whether it involved organizing their soldiers, checking military supplies, coordinating with their allies, or making sure that the household was prepared to respond immediately once the civil war began, he had left those matters in their hands.

This arrangement had been intentional from the very beginning.

For him, the approaching civil war was not only a struggle that would decide the future of the Celestial Dragon Empire. It was also an opportunity to test his children. Over the centuries, he had watched them grow, gain experience, make mistakes, and gradually take on greater responsibilities within the Fujiwara Household.

However, there was a considerable difference between helping manage a household while their father remained in charge and actually carrying the weight of that household on their own shoulders.

Most importantly, he wanted to see whether his son was finally ready.

The elderly man could not remain the head of the Fujiwara Household forever. Sooner or later, the position would have to be passed down to the next generation.

Before making such an important decision, he wanted to know whether his son possessed the judgment, patience, leadership, and ability required to protect everything their family had built over countless generations.

The civil war had simply provided him with the perfect opportunity to find out.

"Did you hear the latest news?" The head of the Fujiwara Household finally shifted his gaze away from the moon and looked toward his two children.

His eldest son and younger daughter exchanged confused looks. From the way their father had called them here so suddenly, both of them immediately assumed that something important must have happened.

"Did the civil war finally start? If so, which side attacked first? And which city was attacked first?" immediately fired several questions at once. Given how tense the situation had become over the past few days, the beginning of the civil war was naturally the first thing that came to her mind.

Mai was about to continue asking more questions when her father calmly raised his palm, immediately stopping her.

"The civil war has not started." Although his expression remained unchanged, the Duke felt slightly annoyed by his daughter’s impatience.

Even after living for several centuries, she still had a habit of becoming impulsive whenever something caught her attention. She had improved considerably compared to when she was younger, but that part of her personality had clearly never disappeared completely.

"Then what happened?" His eldest son asked, realizing that whatever their father wanted to discuss had nothing to do with the beginning of the war.

Instead of immediately answering, the Duke looked at both of his children for a few seconds before asking them a seemingly unrelated question.

"Do the two of you know what a Dragonian is?"

"Well, from what we know, His Majesty Aditya possesses Divine Dragon Blood. One of the unique abilities of his bloodline allows him to transform others into a special type of Dragon with only a drop of his blood."

"These Dragons are different from ordinary Dragons, possessing stronger bodies, greater potential, and several advantages that normal Dragons do not have. Anyone transformed into a Dragon through His Majesty’s blood is known as a Dragonian."

The head of the Fujiwara Household slowly nodded, clearly satisfied with the answer his son had given him. At least when it came to gathering information about Aditya and understanding the abilities he had publicly revealed, his children had been doing their work properly.

"Yes. You are correct."

The Duke paused for a moment before continuing. "A few hours ago, I received some interesting news. Sir Malakor Harrington and Duke Wahid personally visited the different noble houses belonging to the Harrington Faction. They were there to carefully select some of the most talented and trustworthy soldiers from each household."

Both siblings immediately became more attentive upon hearing this. Malakor and Wahid were among the most important figures within the Harrington Faction. The fact that both men had personally taken responsibility for selecting these soldiers meant that this was clearly not some ordinary recruitment.

"The soldiers they selected are going to be transformed into Dragonians by His Majesty Aditya." The expressions of both siblings immediately changed.

The Duke had expected such a reaction. He finally turned his full attention toward his children and carefully observed their faces. "Do the two of you understand what this means?"

His question was not merely about the obvious increase in military strength. There was a much larger meaning behind what Aditya was doing, and the Duke wanted to see whether his children were capable of recognizing it without having everything explained to them.

"This means the overall strength of our side will increase." Mai was the first to answer. "An increase in military strength means that we will have a greater advantage on each battlefield, or at the very least, our chances of winning the civil war will increase considerably. More importantly, if our soldiers become stronger, I believe the number of casualties we suffer during the war will also decrease."

The head of the Fujiwara Household slowly nodded. His daughter’s answer was certainly not wrong. Turning hundreds of talented soldiers into Dragonians would undoubtedly strengthen their side and reduce the number of lives they would lose once the fighting began. However, that was merely the most obvious benefit, and it was not the answer he had been hoping to hear from her.

"What about you, Shin?"

"I agree with Mai, but I think there is another problem we need to consider." Shin paused briefly as he organized his thoughts. "This will create an even greater difference between the military strength of the noble households belonging to the Harrington Faction and the rest of us."

The Duke’s eyes sharpened slightly after hearing this. This was much closer to the answer he had been waiting for.

There was already a noticeable difference between the noble houses that had traditionally belonged to the Harrington Faction and many of the other noble houses supporting Aditya. The Harrington Faction had existed for a very long time, and many of its families had accumulated tremendous wealth and resources over countless generations.

Their territories were generally prosperous, their annual incomes were higher, and their households had enough resources to continuously invest in their armies and talented younger generations.

Now, Aditya was about to widen that difference even further.

The soldiers selected from the Harrington Faction would not merely receive better weapons or additional cultivation resources. They were being transformed into Dragonians. Their bodies, cultivation potential, lifespan, and overall combat abilities would improve considerably. Even if only a few hundred soldiers were transformed and divided among the different households, those soldiers could eventually become the backbone of their respective armies.

The difference might not appear overwhelming immediately, but the Duke understood that noble families planned their futures in centuries rather than years. Ten years from now, fifty years from now, or a century from now, those Dragonians could become powerful commanders and high-ranking cultivators.

The resources that other noble houses would need to spend decades accumulating in order to raise cultivators of similar strength could potentially be saved by the Harrington households.

And that was where the real problem lay.

The Harrington Faction already possessed an economic advantage over many other noble houses. If they now gained a significant military advantage as well, their position within the Celestial Dragon Empire would rise to an entirely different level.

Even though all of them currently stood on the same side and supported Aditya, the balance of power among the noble houses after the civil war could look very different from what it did today.

Shin understood that this was not necessarily something Aditya intended to create. He was simply strengthening the faction that had supported him from the beginning and preparing them for the coming war. Nevertheless, regardless of Aditya’s intentions, the result would remain the same.

The Harrington Faction was becoming stronger. And if the other noble houses did nothing, the gap between them would only continue to grow.
