Dragon Monarch System Chapter 1070:- Confrontation, Makalor and Renji
Previously on Dragon Monarch System...
The pyrotechnics illuminated the sky for nearly five minutes before fading, plunging the heavens back into darkness. A canopy of ominous clouds obscured the stars and celestial bodies, as if heralding the approach of a violent storm.
"Grandpa, based on what I understand, these pillars of blue light originate from a type of box. If we can locate and destroy these boxes, this entire barrier will cease to function."
Boris and Harrington exchanged glances.
"I will go," Harrington stated, rising to his feet. Boris remained seated, lacking the familiarity with the city that Harrington possessed.
Just as Harrington prepared to depart, his attention was seized by a deafening explosion.
A colossal, mushroom-shaped inferno bloomed in the sky, visible to all. The detonation emanated from the northern sector of the city.
"I will handle this," Harrington declared, his decision immediate. The explosion's origin correlated precisely with the location of one of the azure light pillars that had pierced the sky.
"I require Vardy here immediately," Wahid instructed a maid, who vanished with unparalleled swiftness.
"I have the distinct impression that we are entirely surrounded. It feels as though the entire city is under the control of whoever is orchestrating this," Athena commented softly, gazing out into the night.
"This is Axel City. No one dares to trespass here and act with impunity."
"Even if individuals were to arrive with such intentions, they would not emerge victorious. They will not depart this place without our explicit consent."
The implication was unambiguous: any entity that dared to target Axel City and encroach upon the Harrington Faction's domain had willingly stepped into a viper's nest. To expect to enter, sow chaos, and depart unscathed was nothing short of delusion.
Regardless of the aggressor's identity, once hostile intent was established within these borders, the Harrington family harbored no intention of permitting an easy escape.
Yet, merely seconds after Wahid's pronouncement, another tremor, akin to the first, reverberated through the city and its inhabitants.
A second blast, identical in nature to the initial one, occurred in the southern quadrant of the city.
"I will manage this. Wahid, remain here and ensure Aditya's protection." Before any objections could be voiced, Boris had already disappeared.
Both Boris and Harrington departed under the assumption that the entirety of the Harrington family's forces remained at their disposal. With Commander Vardy, a Beginner 7th-order expert, and Wahid, a Mid 7th-order powerhouse, present, the possibility of any harm befalling Aditya or the others seemed remote. They departed with this reassuring certainty.
Little did they know that prior to these unfolding events, Vardy and the majority of his contingent had been deliberately lured away from the city, leaving them stranded outside its confines.
Boris soared from the palace, intending to proceed towards the site of the second explosion. However, the moment he cleared the perimeter, he sensed a distant presence observing him, prompting immediate caution.
He halted his flight, scanning his surroundings. The precise source of the scrutiny eluded him. As a Peak 7th-order cultivator, he had developed a heightened, almost supernatural sense, enabling him to detect malevolent observation.
Therefore, he was absolutely convinced that he was being watched.
’What was that?’ The instant he stopped, the sensation of being observed vanished. He then extended his senses throughout the city, searching for any anomalies. Yet, nothing stood out.
Boris could only ascertain that he had been under surveillance. Unfortunately, he could not discern the direction from which this attention originated. Lacking the target's location, he had no alternative but to abandon the search and continue towards the explosion's epicenter.
He remained confident that he would uncover something upon arrival.
’I shall conclude my task as swiftly as possible and return.’
’Until then, Wahid should be capable of defending the palace and everyone within should anyone dare attack.’
Meanwhile, at a considerable distance, a member of the organization was indeed monitoring Boris's movements through a long-range scrying artifact. The instant Boris paused, his expression shifting to one of suspicion, the observer's heart leaped into their throat.
"That was a close call," they murmured, having successfully masked their aura just before Boris swept his senses outwards.
"Madam, Boris sensed he was being observed. However, he is still proceeding towards the site of the explosion."
"Good," Sophia replied, a slight nod accompanying her words. She had anticipated a confrontation with Boris.
Naturally, she did not intend to face Boris alone. Regardless of her formidable power, she lacked the absolute confidence to defeat the legendary emperor single-handedly. Her plan involved the assistance of another high-ranking member of the Organization for this engagement.
"But that coward Ren abandoned us and fled. Damn it all. This was supposed to be his fight, and he's nowhere to be found."
"Once I am done with this Mission, I will demand outrageous compensation from him." A part of Sophia was irked. She was a core member of the organisation too, yet Ren received preferential treatment, and this time, he was granted complete access to the treasury. The very fact that she had to request what she needed for this mission from him only added to her annoyance. She considered Ren her equal, but throughout this mission, Ren acted as if everyone else was beneath him.
"Whatever happens, either Boris or Harrington, or both, must die today."
Sophia still did not perceive Aditya as a significant threat. In her eyes, he was merely a cultivator at the mid-5th order. It was true that his accomplishments across the Six Continents were impressive, and he might have been deemed almost invincible there, but this was the Main Continent.
The Main Continent was an entirely different realm.
Here, countless prodigies had emerged throughout history, only to eventually vanish or perish before ever reaching the pinnacle. Talent alone proved insufficient for survival in a place teeming with ancient beasts, formidable sects, and potent empires. Compared to the truly mighty figures of the Main Continent, Sophia still believed that Aditya had not yet attained a level where he could genuinely jeopardize everything around him.
In her assessment, the actual dangers lay with the powerful individuals backing Aditya. Boris and Harrington were the true linchpins supporting his cause. As long as those two remained, the civil strife would persist in a relatively balanced state. However, if even one of them were removed, or worse, both, the overall might of Aditya’s faction would immediately be considerably diminished.
"Let’s proceed. We cannot keep Boris waiting."
"From my understanding, you are not affiliated with the Organisation, so why are you aligning with them?" Harrington inquired of Renji. However, Renji was not alone; he was accompanied by another powerful cultivator at the mid-7th order from the League of Black Tomb.
"Sir Malakor, you are acquainted with me," Renji responded with a nonchalant smile.
"For me, nothing is more enticing than a substantial reward. I simply need to contend with you and vanquish you, and then my sect will acquire more wealth than it could possibly expend over the next 10,000 years. How could I possibly forgo such a monumental reward?"
Renji was not a fool easily swayed by temptation or sentiment. Prior to making any critical decisions, he meticulously weighed the associated risks and advantages. He understood with absolute clarity that recklessness was frequently the quickest route to demise on the Main Continent.
Consequently, he would never have consented to confront Harrington directly had another formidable member of the Organisation not arrived to lend him support today.
Engaging Harrington solo was tantamount to inviting death or committing suicide. Renji was acutely aware of how formidable the old monster truly was. Harrington was not an individual that an average Peak 7th-order cultivator could casually challenge and expect to survive against.
Nevertheless, with another potent member of the Organisation standing beside him, the circumstances transformed entirely. United, they were confident they could at least contend with Harrington on equal terms. And if events unfolded favorably, there existed a distinct probability that they could eliminate him here today.
Irrespective of the outcome today, Renji was at least 100% certain of one aspect: he would not perish here.
He had not journeyed to Axel City without forethought. Before agreeing to participate in this operation, he had already ensured he possessed sufficient strategies and contingency plans to guarantee his survival, even if the situation devolved into complete chaos.
Should circumstances turn truly dire, he could simply retreat to the Chimera Shadow Sect and remain concealed there for centuries if required. Renji held unwavering faith in the defensive capabilities and hidden foundations of his sect. In his estimation, there was no conceivable way Harrington would actually dare to pursue him all the way to the Chimera Shadow Sect and attempt to breach its territory solely to bring about his demise.
Harrington drew his greatsword, his gaze fixed coldly upon the two adversaries.
"The most exceptional reward you shall receive today is your own demise," Harrington unleashed his terrifying killing intent.
He was aware that his killing intent alone could exterminate ordinary citizens. Yet, at this moment, he was indifferent. His sole focus was on eradicating the scoundrel who dared to provoke him and his kin.
"We shall see," Renji merely chuckled as he produced a dark spear. This was his chosen weapon.
