Dragon Monarch System Chapter 1069:- Trapped Out of City
Previously on Dragon Monarch System...
Harrington manipulated the curtains with wind magic. Outside, the expected starry night sky and the cityscape of Axel should have been visible. Instead, the entire sky blazed with innumerable fireworks.
"Who is responsible for this?" Wahid's brow furrowed. A sense of unease settled upon him, though he didn't dwell on it.
His question revealed that even the Duke was unaware of any scheduled fireworks display in the city. Such an extensive, city-wide event would necessitate explicit permission from the City Lord, implying this entire spectacle was unauthorized. Observing this, Aditya's heart was suddenly gripped by a profound sense of foreboding.
Aditya's gaze shifted to the Goddess of Wisdom. Like him, she too felt a disturbing premonition about the unfolding events. In fact, her tension seemed even greater than his.
She was already on her feet, peering outside with an intensely serious expression.
"What has happened?" Rin inquired, her eyes fixed on Athena.
"I have a powerful intuition that we are under attack."
Athena offered no further explanation.
All eyes turned towards the window, scrutinizing the scene with utmost care.
Fireworks illuminated the night sky across Axel City.
"Uncle, dispatch someone to ascertain who is behind this," Aditya instructed Wahid.
However, before Wahid could issue any commands, four beams of light blue radiance pierced the heavens.
"What are those?" Aditya gestured towards the luminous pillars.
No one present possessed any answers.
In the subsequent instant, Aditya perceived spatial distortions rippling throughout Axel City.
As a 5th-order runemaster, he grasped the situation within mere seconds.
"Those four pillars of light have effectively sealed the space encompassing all of Axel City," he announced, turning to address the others. "This suggests that our attackers intend to isolate the entire city dimensionally."
"This means teleportation beyond the city limits will be ineffective. I strongly suspect that exiting the city through any of its gates physically will also be impossible."
"Furthermore, no one can teleport into Axel City from the outside. We are entirely severed from the rest of the world at this moment."
Upon hearing this, palpable worry spread through the room, instantly casting a heavy pall over the atmosphere.
Boris and Harrington exchanged glances, their surprise evident. Neither had anticipated their adversaries would initiate hostilities while aware of the presence of multiple powerful 7th-order cultivators within the city.
Moreover, Axel City boasted one of the most formidable military forces in the entire Empire. The Harrington troops, hardened by their constant year-round battles against magical beasts, possessed sharper senses and superior combat experience compared to ordinary soldiers. Consequently, a direct assault on Axel City was akin to suicidal.
Undeniably, sealing the surrounding space to impede ingress and egress via teleportation was a shrewd tactic by the enemy, limiting external intervention and complicating any potential escape. Yet, even with such elaborate preparations, Boris and Harrington found it difficult to conceive that their foes genuinely felt confident in achieving victory.
This underlying disbelief was the reason why, despite the pervasive anxiety and tension among the others, Boris and Harrington maintained an unusual composure.
Scene Change....
Vardy, accompanied by his most capable fighters, had positioned themselves outside the city walls, anticipating a massive onslaught of magical beasts. He had mobilized nearly the full strength of the military, intending to intercept the threat far from the city and ensure the absolute safety of its inhabitants.
To the uninitiated, a swarm of over five thousand magical beasts might sound terrifying. However, for Vardy and his seasoned soldiers, it was merely another challenging day requiring their expertise. Across the centuries, they had weathered innumerable assaults from magical beasts, fostering a level of discipline and combat readiness in Axel City's troops that surpassed most military forces within the Empire.
Vardy himself appeared remarkably calm amidst the unfolding situation. His confidence in his own capabilities and the prowess of the Harrington troops was unwavering. In fact, his objective extended beyond merely repelling the incoming wave of magical beasts; he aimed to conclude the engagement with such clinical efficiency that the citizens within the city would remain oblivious to the perilous conflict raging beyond their defenses.
He expected to find a chaotic battlefield but instead encountered a serene, quiet forest. Vardy was the last to arrive.
"Where are the magical beasts?" he questioned his men.
"Sir, upon our arrival to this location, we found no signs of any magical beasts."
Dragon Monarch System Rewritten
He wondered if the magical beasts had departed before his forces could reach the area. Though he found this peculiar, as such an event was unprecedented in his two millennia of service, he resolved to return and ponder the matter later. ’Tomorrow morning, I shall task my men with an investigation.’ For now, however, as night had fallen, it was imprudent for his soldiers to remain exposed, and all required rest. "Retreat!" With that command, he and his men turned to depart. He was the first to ascend, entering the city by flight. Bang!!!!! He collided with an invisible barrier. He attempted again, striking the barrier twice more. "What in the blazes is this?" This had never transpired before. From his vantage point outside the city, he observed the night sky ignited with hundreds of brilliantly hued fireworks. Colorful detonations continuously pierced the darkness above Axel City, imbuing the entire locale with an uncharacteristic liveliness despite the menacing situation looming beyond its ramparts. Even from beyond the city’s encompassing barrier, the resounding clamor of fireworks could be clearly perceived, echoing through the nocturnal expanse. Simultaneously, he detected four distinct azure pillars of light ascending high into the heavens from the city's four cardinal points, forming a rectangular configuration. These luminous columns stood in stark contrast to the vibrant fireworks, immediately capturing attention upon gazing towards Axel City. "Fireworks?" Vardy’s confusion deepened. Initially, he struggled to comprehend the sudden pyrotechnic display across the entire city amidst such a critical juncture. Then, a realization dawned within his mind. One by one, disparate pieces of information began to interlock. The abrupt report of a colossal horde of magical beasts. The city illuminated by fireworks. The peculiar blue light pillars piercing the sky. The sealed space enveloping Axel City. The more he contemplated, the clearer the picture became. Vardy’s countenance instantly grew grim. Without a moment’s delay, he turned to his assembled soldiers, ordering them to locate the very guardsman who had initially reported the beastly onslaught. Yet, after several minutes elapsed, the individual was nowhere to be found. "Sir, we cannot locate him." Upon hearing this, Vardy’s comprehension solidified. The initial report concerning the magical beasts had been a fabrication from the outset. Someone had deliberately supplied him with false intelligence, intending for him to dispatch the bulk of his forces and abandon the city. The true objective was never the magical beasts themselves. The actual aim was to lure him and the military contingent away, leaving them stranded beyond the city’s fortifications. Concurrently, he grasped that the architect of this scheme was undoubtedly responsible for the fireworks and the four uncanny blue pillars of light that had manifested at various points within the city. "Dammitttttt!" Vardy issued an enraged bellow. His fury was so immense that if he could apprehend the scoundrel who had led them astray, he would rend him limb from limb. "Son of a Bitch.!!!!!" Nevertheless, Vardy was not the sort to remain idle, allowing the situation to deteriorate further. The instant he recognized the entire affair as a meticulously crafted trap, his mind immediately commenced a search for alternative strategies and contingency plans. Fortunately, a crucial detail surfaced in his memory. A secondary teleportation array existed within a modest village approximately three kilometers distant from Axel City. This array had been originally established for emergency purposes, enabling villagers to seek immediate refuge within the city during invasions by surrounding magical beasts. Most importantly, that specific teleportation array was believed to still possess sufficient mana stones to facilitate long-distance translocation. As this thought materialized, Vardy promptly finalized his resolution. His intention was to journey to the domains of the other Dukes affiliated with the Harrington Faction, uniting them collectively. Only through the convergence of Dukes and Duchesses could they expeditiously deliberate upon a sound resolution and devise a method to breach the barrier encasing Axel City. ---------------- My sincere gratitude to all who have offered support through valuable golden tickets and gifts.
