The former Radiant Empire city thrived after joining the Istarin Empire, with lower taxes, minimum wages, free education, safer streets, and disciplined troops transforming daily life for the better. Peace shattered when a massive Black Dragon assaulted the city, its golden flames repelled by the King's unbreakable barrier. Soldiers sealed the gates amid civilian pleas, then unleashed volleys of arrows, spells, and charging solar cannons against the unscathed Peak 5th-order beast, culminating in a massive combined beam as the dragon prepared its counter.

"Solar Cannons, prepare to fire on my command." Golden energy spheres materialized at the muzzles of the dark cannons. Moment by moment, the intensity within these golden orbs surged ever higher.

Yet the Black Dragon refused to let that happen. Prior to arriving, the Ancient Dragon had received warnings about these peculiar cannons.

The enormous Dragon parted its jaws and started gathering a diamond-shaped blaze of Golden Flame for a devastating strike.

"Fire!!!!"

All five solar cannons unleashed their blasts toward the Black Dragon simultaneously. The five beams merged into a single overwhelming ray. Its brilliance was so intense that troops on the walls and those observing from below felt as if a tiny sun blazed over their city.

The Black Dragon unleashed its mighty golden flame in response. When the two colossal assaults clashed, they generated an immense shockwave.

The clash occurred right beyond the barrier. The defensive shield absorbed the full brunt of the blast's shockwave. Cracks spiderwebbed across the entire barrier from the explosion and its force.

Meanwhile, the shockwave rippled outward, felt even by those far away.

All onlookers witnessed the gigantic blast soaring skyward, vast enough to seemingly consume half the city. The shockwave expanded with horrifying might. The earth quaked, and surroundings shuddered fiercely. Clay pots exploded into shards. Glass shattered on impact. Doors and windows clattered wildly. Frail old buildings, those with shaky frames, crumbled one by one under the strain.

A enigmatic figure, the one who had guided the ancient black dragon safely via the tunnel portal to the six continents, observed the chaos from afar with an artifact enabling views up to nearly 50 km distant.

"At this pace, the black dragon can't inflict real harm." The group had learned that the Dragon Monarch spent the past two months fortifying defensive barriers in every key city of his Empire. Still, they underestimated their true strength.

Observations so far validated their suspicion: each enhanced Defensive Mana Barrier could now endure strikes from any Peak 5th-order cultivator.

"Fortunately, Leo foresaw this possibility." Prior to departure, Leo instructed him to teach the black dragon a simple technique mastered in just two hours. This unique method enabled bypassing the limitations imposed on all lifeforms across the six continents.

"However, activation limits it to two minutes, and each individual can employ it only once."

After surviving 1 million years, Leo had discovered several ways to briefly remove the cultivation cap within the six continents.

He hadn't devoted a million years to shattering those limits permanently; otherwise, he'd have succeeded. These temporary solutions stemmed from anticipating that the powerful organization's agents would falter against peak fifth-order cultivators in the six continents, necessitating such countermeasures.

"Regrettably, this technique works solely for Dragons at present." The mysterious man sighed. Had it been refined further, members of the Organization slain by Aditya might have lived, and Aditya himself could already be dead.

Once the explosion's smoke dissipated, seasoned soldiers marveled that the ancient dragon suffered minimal injury. Only its left chest bore scars, where scales had scorched away.

"Exactly as anticipated, this dragon ranks supreme even among peak fifth-order cultivators." The Captain whispered to himself, avoiding demoralizing his troops.

He gazed anxiously at the fissures riddling the translucent barrier overhead. Fortunately, seconds later, those fractures mended swiftly and vanished.

Witnessing this, the Captain and his men breathed sighs of relief. They marveled at the incredible formation crafted by his majesty.

Five-star Defensive Mana Barriers surpassed lesser ones with their self-repair capability for crises. Should the shield fully break, a fresh one reformed in 71 seconds. This cycle persisted until mana depleted—a near impossibility given multiple energy feeds. In extremity, troops could infuse their own mana.

Only if the formation core or power sources sustained harm would it falter. The core hid in a concealed chamber inside the walls, known solely to select high-ranking officers. Moreover, layers of formations sealed the room, rendering breach unthinkable.

Just Aditya and elite runemasters from the Istarin Empire held access keys. Periodic runemaster visits ensured maintenance and inspections.

"Captain, what's our next move?" a soldier inquired.

"Mages, ready another barrage of spells. Archers, support them. We'll stall until the next solar cannon volley." The troops sprang into action at the Captain's command.

Repeated drills ensured seamless, synchronized efforts.

Yet the mind-controlled Black Dragon wasn't a mindless drone devoid of strategy. It realized endless repetition yielded nothing; true impact demanded the technique learned hours earlier.

The Black Dragon's pupils shifted to inky black. Already exceeding 100 meters (328 feet) long, it now exuded amplified terror.

Its vast wings unfurled gradually, spanning nearly 180 meters (590 feet), shrouding much of the city in shadow. Deep black scales sheathed its form entirely—thick, razor-edged, gleaming like obsidian metal. No other hue marred its pitch-black frame from snout to tail tip.

Claws towered massively, capable of pulverizing squads in one swipe. Fangs proved nightmarish: each neared 1.5 meters (5 feet), rivaling adult humans. A mere parting of jaws revealed ranks of those colossal teeth, underscoring its capacity for effortless shredding.

Simultaneously, the Black Dragon's Aura transformed abruptly, growing shadowy and icily savage.

Abruptly, a ferocious, ruinous Aura erupted from the Black Dragon. Its overwhelming darkness and chill instantly froze low-order soldiers in terror. Some bodies locked rigid; others dropped to knees, gasping under the crush.

The barrier, designed to repel physical and Aura assaults alike, buckled. Solely from the dragon's presence, fissures erupted across the clear Defensive Mana Barrier, proliferating like impending fractures in ice.

"What’s happening?" a soldier gasped, eyes wide with dread and shock.

Higher soldiers eyed the afflicted low-orders, torn between orders and aiding choking comrades—brothers in arms struggling visibly.

"I don’t know." Another muttered softly. Even the Captain puzzled over the dragon's mutation, though fellow 5th-order cultivators grasped its implications swiftly.

"Its Aura surges stronger, more vicious— as if shattering the cultivation curbs binding higher orders in the six continents."

"Did you request reinforcements?" From the Black Dragon's arrival, the vice-captain handled summoning aid from the Capital.

Desperation laced the Captain's voice; he knew they couldn't match the beast unleashed. Such power defied continental rules, rendering resistance futile.

Reinforcements might arrive too late, dooming them and the city. Even capped at Peak 5th-order, it cracked the barrier; now its Aura alone wrought greater devastation.

"I did!!" The Vice Captain whispered uncertainly. Less than a minute into battle, aid needed several more.

’I hope we endure until then.’

Then, the Black Dragon inhaled deeply.

It loomed hundreds of meters over the city's northern edge, past the gates. Its bulk eclipsed the walls beneath.

Next, its maw gaped wide.

A titanic surge of golden flames roared forth. The blaze fanned broadly, curving like a semicircle across the city. Given the round layout, it spanned half the diameter instantly. From northern gates inward, structures, walls, lanes—all vanished into the searing glow, fated for total annihilation.
