Anna explains the dangers of the Ten Shadows Trial, warning that newcomers are often targeted for their rewards. She elaborates on the significant difference between cultivators with and without a comprehended Cosmic Path, emphasizing how it dictates one's standing in the inner layer. Anna advises Max against prematurely condensing his Bronze Marks into a Gold Mark, as it would restrict him from beginner trials and push him into more dangerous competitions without sufficient preparation or resources.

Anna sighed. "That's because you're easy to read when it comes to this. If something is dangerous but useful, you want to try it."

Her tone turned serious again. "There's another reason the Ten Shadows Trial is so popular. Even if you fail, you still gain experience as long as you survive and leave the trial properly. Plenty of newcomers go in once, fail before they reach the later shadows, and then spend months getting stronger before they try again. But if you push too hard and refuse to retreat, the trial won't show you any mercy."

"Can people actually die in there?" Revona asked.

"Yes," Anna said. "Unlike the Battle Space, the Ten Shadows Trial is real, so if you die there, you're truly dead. The city doesn't protect you, no formation sends your real body back safely, and there's no referee to stop the fight the moment you're overwhelmed. That's exactly why it's so valuable, and it's also why people fear it."

After she said this, the room fell quieter, and even Max stopped treating the trial lightly.

Anna looked at the three of them and spoke slowly. "All of you have talent, and yesterday proved it. Revona beat Virgil, Damian forced a draw against Aldric, and Max defeated Greyjin in a way that half the city will be talking about for a long time. But don't let that victory blind you. The Battle Space isn't the same as a real trial. In the Battle Space, losing costs you marks and pride. In the Ten Shadows Trial, losing can cost you your life."

Damian nodded. "Then we should prepare before we go in."

"That's what I wanted to hear," Anna said, looking pleased. "You should buy more detailed information about the trial and pick up some recovery items. If you can, get some escape runes as well, and make sure you're in peak condition before you enter. Also, don't tell too many people when you're planning to go. The trial is dangerous enough already, so there's no need to invite ambushers."

"How much does it cost to enter?" Max asked.

"One hundred Bronze Marks per attempt," Anna answered.

Revona frowned. "That's not cheap."

"No, it isn't," Anna said. "But considering what you could get out of it, most people think it's reasonable. The majority of newcomers can only try it after saving up marks for a while. You three are different because you've already earned marks in the Battle Space. That gives you an advantage, but it can vanish quickly if you waste your resources."

Max looked down at his bronze mark.

Once he took into account the room he had rented, along with food, information, recovery items, and trial entry fees, his one thousand Bronze Marks no longer seemed as large as they had before. If he condensed them into a Gold Mark, he would lose the flexibility to attempt trials like this without worry. If he kept them as Bronze Marks, though, he could use them to prepare, enter the trial, and recover afterward.

Anna's advice made even more sense to him now. Bronze Marks weren't something he should give up quickly, because for newcomers, they were the currency of both survival and growth.

Anna slowly got to her feet. "For now, get some proper rest, stabilize your condition, and don't cause any trouble today. Tomorrow, we'll go to the Information Hall and buy a detailed report on the Ten Shadows Trial. After that, you can decide whether to go in right away or spend a few more days preparing."

Max stood up as well, and his eyes showed a calm sort of interest.

Just looking at him gave Anna a headache. "I can already tell you're planning to go in as soon as you can."

Max smiled faintly. "You did say almost every participant enters it at least once."

"I did," Anna replied sighing.

The Godslayer's Pilgrimage had finally started to show him something that was truly useful. Cosmic Fragments could help a cultivator comprehend their Cosmic Path faster, and that thought stayed in Max's mind even after Anna had finished explaining.

Of all the pseudo cosmic paths he had comprehended, the one closest to becoming a true Cosmic Path was without a doubt his Emotion Severing Path. It was strange and dangerous, and it was far more profound than the others.

Even when Max used only part of its power, he could sense that it was different from ordinary pseudo cosmic paths. It didn't just strengthen an attack or add a layer of law to his sword. Instead, it reached something much deeper.

Because of this, there was nothing Max wanted more right now than Cosmic Fragments.

If he could use them to bring his Emotion Severing Path closer to a true Cosmic Path, his strength would climb to another level. His body had already displayed shocking power after he opened six of the Seven Divine Veins, but Max knew perfectly well that physical strength alone wouldn't be enough in the Godslayer's Pilgrimage.

The outer layer was already full of monsters from all five universes, and the inner layer was sure to be even more terrifying. If he wanted to move forward quickly, he would have to improve every part of himself.

When the meeting ended, Damian and Revona went back to their rooms to rest and sort through what they had learned. Max, however, didn't return to his room right away. Instead, he rented a cultivation chamber for the day.

The chamber cost a painful number of Bronze Marks, but Max didn't hesitate for long. After experiencing the Battle Space, hearing about the Ten Shadows Trial, and understanding how important Cosmic Paths were, he had become even more aware of his current weakness.

His body, bloodline, sword, and pseudo cosmic paths were all far stronger than his realm suggested, but his cultivation was still only at the 1st level of the Law Manifestation Realm. That was the thing holding him back the most.

As soon as he stepped inside the cultivation chamber, the stone door closed behind him and the formation inside came to life. Dense energy gathered from every direction and flowed into the chamber like a silent tide.

The energy here was much purer than anything he could find in an ordinary room. It carried the ancient aura of the Godslayer's Pilgrimage, and with every breath he took, Max felt as if a cold and powerful stream were washing through his meridians.

He sat down cross-legged on the stone platform at the center of the chamber, closed his eyes, and began to cultivate.
