Arvantos smiled wryly again. "That's one simple way to put it."
The words came out almost casual, but the meaning behind them shook the top ten deeply. Aurelian Lareth's expression turned complicated.
The elven races had always taken pride in their bloodline purity, but standing in the Primordial Ancestral Domain and hearing that humans came from Primordials themselves, even he couldn't hold onto the same sense of superiority.
Revona stayed calm, but her gaze lingered on the mural longer than before.
Ervin looked thoughtful. "Then the current Primordial Race should have kept declining. If the original Primordials couldn't reproduce, and a lot of them turned into humans, how did your race survive until now?"
Arvantos's smile faded into something deeper. "That's where the second half of our history begins."
The platform moved again. This time they approached a vast ceremonial ground surrounded by thirteen ancient pillars. Each pillar showed a carving of a human standing beneath a Primordial, with streams of bloodline light pouring into their body.
Some of those humans transformed partially. Some fully. Some broke apart. Some stood tall with new Primordial marks carved into their skin.
Arvantos pointed at the pillars. "After humanity began, the Primordials found another path."
The ten geniuses looked at the carvings in silence.
Arvantos continued. "If Primordials couldn't reproduce naturally, then we'd create Primordials through transformation instead. Rather than birthing descendants, we'd choose humans with supreme potential, awaken the hidden compatibility left over from the origin of humanity, and give them a chance to receive the Primordial bloodline."
His gaze moved across all ten of them. "That's the reason you're here."
The mood shifted immediately.
"Since this system began, the Primordial Race has picked the most outstanding human geniuses from different eras, different worlds, and different forces. Some were chosen through wars. Some through trials. Some through bloodline resonance. In the current era, the Cosmic Ascension Conference is one of the most important ways we select candidates."
Max looked at the pillars. "So the top ten get this opportunity because you're looking for humans who can carry the Primordial bloodline."
"Correct," Arvantos said. "Not every human can carry it. Honestly, almost none can. The Primordial bloodline is too heavy for ordinary bodies and too ancient for ordinary souls. Even supreme geniuses can fail. Some get only a trace. Some get a partial bloodline. Some become candidates. A few, after many more trials, truly step into the ranks of the Primordials."
Alice and Lenavira weren't here, but Max could almost guess what Lily would say if she heard all this. She'd probably say the Primordials were taking a ridiculously roundabout path just because they couldn't have kids the normal way.
Orion Starfall looked at Arvantos. "So the Primordial Race has survived by turning humans back into Primordials."
"Yes," Arvantos said. "Humanity came from Primordials who gave up their bloodline, and the Primordial Race keeps going by choosing extraordinary humans capable of receiving that bloodline again. It's a cycle, though not a perfect one."
Damian Voss's gaze sharpened. "So humans are both the descendants of the Primordials and the source new Primordials get chosen from."
"Exactly."
The shock on the platform deepened. The history was too big, too strange, too heavy. For countless years, humans had struggled, cultivated, fought, risen, fallen, founded clans, built forces, and established kingdoms, empires, dynasties, and divine powers.
Plenty of human forces believed their origins were ordinary compared to the ancient divine races. Now Arvantos had just told them the truth was far more astonishing.
Humans were born from Primordials. And Primordials kept existing through humans.
Max stayed quiet for a while. This secret changed a lot of things. It explained why the Primordial Race cared so much about the Cosmic Ascension Conference. It explained why the top ten got chosen.
It explained why becoming a Primordial wasn't just receiving an outside reward, but returning to a source humans had once lost.
Arvantos looked at the ten geniuses and spoke slowly. "Now you understand why the Primordial Race values potential over background. A divine clan bloodline might help you. A supreme inheritance might strengthen you. A rare Pseudo Cosmic Path might set you above others in battle. But none of that alone decides whether you can become a Primordial."
His gaze moved to Max. "What matters most is whether your foundation can bear the return."
The word "return" quieted the platform again.
Arvantos raised his hand, and the thirteen pillars around the ceremonial ground began to glow.
"This is where your first compatibility trial begins. Before any bloodline is granted, before any ceremony is performed, before any of you can be called Primordial candidates, we need to see how much of the ancient source your bodies and souls can handle."
The ten geniuses stood beneath the glowing pillars. The shock from the secret still hadn't faded, but their eyes had already started to sharpen. Whatever their surprise, whatever they now thought about the origin of humanity, they hadn't come here just to listen to history.
They'd come to seize an opportunity. They'd come to climb higher. And now the path back to the Primordial source was opening in front of them.
The thirteen ancient pillars around the ceremonial ground shone brighter and brighter until the whole area was drowned in pale gold light.
The moment the light hit its peak, the ground beneath the ten geniuses began to hum softly. Countless ancient runes rose up from the floor one after another, forming circles within circles beneath each of them. The air grew heavy, not with hostility, but with a deep, ancient pressure that seemed to come from the very origin of life itself.
Arvantos stood at the center of the group with his hands behind his back.
"This is the Primordial Compatibility Test," he said calmly. "It doesn't just test combat strength, and it doesn't care about fame, background, or a single victory. It measures your body, your soul, your bloodline adaptability, your law foundation, your life force, your capacity to withstand ancient pressure, and the depth of your future potential."
His gaze moved across all ten of them.
"The stronger your compatibility, the higher the bloodline you may be able to receive. If your compatibility is too low, even if I personally wanted to give you a higher Primordial bloodline, your body would explode, your soul would collapse, or your foundation would shatter."
The geniuses' expressions turned solemn.
