Max unleashed the Dragon Manifestation, engulfing Mira in black flames that burned her severely. He swiftly switched to White Tiger for a close-range energy sphere, which Mira countered with her Sword God inheritance before striking back. Defending with the Tortoise shell, Max healed via Phoenix flames and activated his Heavenly Luminance Divine Bloodline, amplifying his power. He then overwhelmed Mira with an enhanced Thousand Star Severing Sword and a devastating fist strike, sending her crashing into a massive crater as he approached.

Reaching the crater where Mira had plummeted, Max peered down and spotted her sprawled in the middle, her form battered and aura faint. Exhaustion was plain on her face, her power almost spent after that savage clash.

Max leaped into the crater without delay and got to her side.

Shortly after, he climbed back out.

Gripping Mira's neck with a single hand, he hoisted her up effortlessly, as if she were featherlight. Her frame dangled in mid-air, motions lethargic while she fought to summon her scant remaining strength.

The scene shocked everyone present.

No one had foreseen such a turnaround. Right from the start, they figured Mira would crush Max, but here he was triumphant, clutching her firmly.

"Let go of me!" Mira cried out, pushing the words through her frail condition.

"Let go of you?" Max echoed, his voice utterly emotionless. "If our positions were reversed, you would not have hesitated for even a moment to break my neck. And now you expect mercy?"

"Release the Young Miss!"

Right then, Sword God Palace members charged ahead, encircling Max with faces twisted in anger.

"How dare you treat her like this? Let her go immediately!"

One advanced, bellowing in fury. "You fool, release her at once or we will kill your companions!"

Simultaneously, a few Sword God Palace disciples advanced on Lucia and Isabella, weapons drawn and tips aimed right at them, poised to attack instantly.

Max stayed composed at the sight, showing no sign of alarm.

He responded with steady calm.

"What companions?"

As soon as he uttered that, Lucia and Isabella blinked out of existence from their spots.

They were gone entirely.

The abrupt shift stunned all onlookers. Luna and Tamara exchanged surprised glances too, baffled by how the pair vanished without a single trace.

Max shifted his eyes back to Mira.

"Look at yourself," he said icily. "You wanted to kill me for that sword, and now you stand at my mercy. How quickly things change."

While speaking, he squeezed her neck a bit harder.

Mira's frame shuddered under the mounting pressure, breath ragged and speech impossible.

Tension gripped the Sword God Palace group visibly.

Not one dared advance. They knew a rash move might spur Max to snap her neck right then, leaving them powerless to watch.

"Max," Tamara's voice cut in then, icy and firm. "If I were you, I would release her."

Max glanced her way with a slight turn.

"She is the daughter of the Palace Master of the Sword God Palace," Tamara pressed on. "You understand what that means. If you kill her, the entire Sword God Palace will descend upon your Black Dragon Clan. Even if they eliminate you first, they will not stop until everything connected to you is destroyed."

Max held her stare, face unchanging.

"What if I refuse?" he replied evenly. "I clearly saw that you had the ability to stop this fight before it even began, yet you chose not to act. And now you expect me to stop?"

Tamara's face grew stormy.

For the first time, someone inferior dared challenge her choices head-on, and Max's bold tone thickened the air with tension.

"You need to stop," Tamara commanded coldly, authority ringing clear. "If you refuse, then I will be forced to take action myself."

"Oh, will you?" Max shot back steadily, eyes on her. "Then answer me this. If I release her now, do you truly believe she will simply return to the Sword God Palace and forget everything that happened here? No. She is not foolish enough to let this go. She will gather her forces and come for revenge against the Black Dragon Clan."

His stare stayed fixed as he went on. "She was ready to kill me over a sword alone. Just imagine what she would do for revenge."

Tamara's brow furrowed while she absorbed his words, knowing full well his point held truth.

Whatever the resolution, the Black Dragon Clan faced peril. Their sole path to safety had been Mira slaying Max and seizing the Sword Sovereign's sword, but that chance was lost forever.

Max then focused on Mira again. Black flames erupted from his left hand, the sinister blaze dancing with lethal menace.

"What are you planning to do?" Tamara demanded, face hardening. Though War God Palace rivaled Sword God Palace, she'd known Mira since they were kids and couldn't just watch her perish.

"Max, please release her," Luna pleaded, her tone shifting from steady to desperate with urgency.

"Too late for that now, Luna," Max replied coolly, shooting her a glance. "Relax though. Killing her isn't my plan."

With those words spoken, his hand wreathed in flames pressed onto Mira's head.

A shrill scream exploded without delay.

"AAAHHH!"

Mira's body convulsed wildly as black flames started devouring her. Unlike regular fire, they brought a profound agony, as if gnawing away at more than just flesh—something essential deep within.

"What are you doing?" Tamara yelled, surging ahead until her form materialized right in front of Max.

Max swiveled his head her way, face remaining stoic. "One more step, and these flames might slip my control. The result then? You wouldn't want it. Best you remain right there."

Tamara froze mid-motion.

"You… you monster," she uttered, voice quivering faintly while staring at him.

Her deepest unease came not only from his actions, but how he performed them. His eyes held emptiness, barren of emotion, like gazing into nothingness. No fury, no glee, no viciousness showed—just a chilling void.

Regret suddenly welled up inside her.

Had she acted sooner to halt Mira, this wouldn't have unfolded.
