Dimension of Time.
Max at last ceased his training in the inheritance techniques, his chest heaving rhythmically while perspiration drenched his whole form. Despite his Rebirth Realm body, the exhaustion from his efforts remained impossible to ignore. He had accomplished precisely what he intended.
Into the Inheritance Chambers of the Flame, Ice, and Sword dimensions he went one after another, choosing the most advanced inheritance techniques available to him at present and embedding them profoundly within his comprehension.
The ensuing days were devoted completely to the Dimension of Time. Mere days elapsed in the external world, yet inside that eternal realm, thousands of years of intensive repetition unfolded.
Each action was polished to perfection, every error rectified, and every subtlety ingrained as pure reflex. He drove himself without mercy, permitting no trace of laziness, for he understood that the Thirty Six Hall Grand Trial would show no mercy to frailty.
A complete week had now elapsed outside, marking the arrival of the trial's day.
"Four Divine Beasts Manifestation proves much harder to grasp than Ice God Hand and Thousand Divine Swords," Max murmured while clearing the sweat from his forehead, silently assessing his achievements.
Of the three inheritance techniques he acquired, the flame one exacted the greatest toll. It went beyond mere strength, requiring mastery of control, equilibrium, and harmony with several divine forms simultaneously. By contrast, Ice God Hand and Thousand Divine Swords offered simpler paths, fierce in their execution but simpler to dominate.
All three—Four Divine Beasts Manifestation, Ice God Hand, and Thousand Divine Swords—were now solidly integrated into his core, though one continued to defy full command.
"Anyway, it's time to proceed to the central hub of the Thirty Third Hall," Max whispered as he adjusted his stance.
With that resolve, he departed the Dimension of Time and vacated his chamber.
As soon as he emerged, activity surged all around. Disciples hurried along the hallways, converging on the common goal. Confidence shone on some faces, tension gripped others in quiet, and a handful buzzed with hardly hidden thrill.
Max merged seamlessly into the crowd, avoiding notice as he advanced with them toward the hall's core.
Before long, he reached the central hub of the Thirty Third Hall.
The scene that unfolded was staggering. The expansive plaza brimmed with disciples from diverse ages and origins, alive with chatter, discussions, and buzzing impatience.
Thousands, perhaps even more, filled the space in Max's rough count. Such crowds were commonplace in the Divine Realm, particularly for a monumental occasion like the Thirty Six Hall Grand Trial.
"Max, you're here too."
That recognizable voice prompted his glance. Carl and Laura drew near from one side. They weren't by themselves. Accompanying them were three others, each exuding a poised, assured presence that stood out sharply among outer disciples.
Max's gaze rested on them for a moment, instinctively evaluating their power as the hub's air thickened with mounting expectation. 'Peak of Rebirth Realm... every one of them.'
"Carl and Laura, it's good to see you both here," Max responded warmly in greeting, his eyes drifting smoothly to the trio beside them.
Laura advanced and indicated the group with a steady demeanor. "These three are Simon, ranked sixth; Drisco, ranked seventh; and Flora, who holds the tenth position among the outer disciples of the Thirty Third Hall."
"I'm pleased to meet you all," Max declared with an open, radiant smile.
Simon and Drisco offered him quick looks followed by curt nods, their faces serene yet cautious. Flora, however, regarded Max with open interest, her gaze probing beyond his outward calm as if seeking hidden depths, though she remained silent.
Max shifted his focus back to Carl and Laura, a contemplative expression passing over him. "If they're ranked so highly, then you two must be close to the top as well, right?"
Carl gave a subtle smile in reply, his voice easy yet assured. "I'm ranked fourth among the outer disciples of the Thirty Third Hall, and Laura is fifth."
"Fourth and fifth in the outer disciple rankings," Max echoed with an approving nod. "That's impressive. You two must be really strong."
With those words spoken, another idea emerged in his thoughts, and he voiced it promptly. "What about the top three?"
"They'll arrive shortly," Laura answered, her mouth forming a smile that lacked true warmth. "The gathering has only just started."
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Max inquired with a crooked grin, detecting an undercurrent in their looks.
Laura's smile grew broader, a subtle spark of humor lighting her eyes as she responded, "Things are definitely going to get interesting once the top three arrive."
Carl inclined his head in concurrence, his features blending a touch of pity with subdued eagerness.
"Am I missing something here?" Max questioned, eyeing them both as his intrigue intensified.
Carl emitted a light laugh before clarifying with patience. "By now, the entire Thirty Third Hall knows you're a direct disciple of Elder Virelia. The top three outer disciples here have labored for years to gain an elder's acceptance, and above all, they targeted Elder Virelia since her guidance is deemed the finest in the whole hall."
He halted for a beat before pressing on, his voice adopting a more grave edge. "Then you showed up from nowhere and became her disciple in almost no time. Now consider this: what do you suppose will unfold when the one personally selected by Elder Virelia encounters the three who've pursued that very spot for years?"
