Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Reborn as a Wolf.
The Arctic is a realm defined by relentless, freezing cold.
With the descent of winter, a profound silence enveloped the world, making the snow-blanketed Arctic even more desolate. The few animals that usually roamed the area had now vanished entirely.
Deep within a cave tucked away in this frozen wasteland, a tiny Arctic wolf cub lay slumbering, nestled against the warm, sturdy body of a mother wolf.
Su Lin shifted slightly, feeling a pleasant warmth radiating through him. It was truly a perfect spot for a nap.
Howl!
A sharp, mournful cry echoed.
Drifting in a haze between sleep and wakefulness, Su Lin instinctively tried to reach up and rub his eyes.
But... he was suddenly jolted wide awake!
Hold on... where were his arms?
And... why did his voice sound so strange?
Su Lin was struck with terror as he realized his hands and arms were gone, and his attempt to speak had come out as a wolf’s howl!
"This has to be a dream!"
Su Lin told himself frantically.
However, as he twisted his small frame to investigate, he was met with the horrifying sight of a pup’s body.
He was a young Arctic wolf, covered in snow-white fur and measuring barely thirty centimeters long.
"What on earth is happening?"
Su Lin’s mind reeled, his thoughts a chaotic blur.
Once he forced himself to settle down, he began to piece together the memories of what happened before he lost consciousness.
In his previous life, Su Lin was a wealthy second-generation heir with a passion for dangerous adventures.
His parents were constantly preoccupied with expanding their business empire and paid him little mind,
meaning he had spent over two decades navigating the world’s challenges on his own.
Just the day before, he had set out to explore a mysterious, hidden cavern.
Deep inside that cave, he had stumbled upon a crystal coffin, its surface etched with intricate symbols and strange illustrations!
A crystal coffin was an anomaly—even with modern technology, the cost of creating such an object would be astronomical, let alone in the ancient past.
Driven by an intense curiosity, Su Lin had spent hours inspecting it.
Utilizing his extensive field experience and his university background in archaeology, he managed to decipher fragments of the inscriptions.
The text was broken and difficult to piece together.
He saw terms like "Ice Age," "great changes in heaven and earth," "species evolution," and "Divine Demons resurgence."
Perhaps the mental strain of analyzing the coffin was too much; as he turned to leave, his vision blurred, and he collapsed onto the stone floor.
He never would have guessed that when he finally opened his eyes, he would have been reborn!
And to make matters worse, he was now a wolf!
Raising a fluffy white paw, he gave himself a sharp strike.
"Slap!"
The sting was real.
The physical pain caused Su Lin’s heart to sink.
"Am I truly a wolf now? A tiny Arctic wolf? Good heavens, don’t do this to me—my life was just getting started!"
Despite his internal pleas and silent protests, nothing changed.
The reality remained: he was a wolf, a cub of the Arctic.
Fortunately, having grown up in isolation, Su Lin possessed a resilient spirit. It didn't take him long to begin accepting his new existence.
But just as he was coming to terms with his fate,
suddenly,
a translucent grey screen, visible only to him, manifested in his field of vision.
Name: Su Lin.
Species: Arctic Wolf.
Level: 0 (requires 10 Evolution Points to level up).
Qi-Blood: 10.
Endurance: 1.
Strength: 1.
Defense: 1.
Speed: 1.
Evolution Points: 0.

"What is this?"
Staring at the pale grey interface that had materialized out of nowhere,
Su Lin was initially shocked, but then a spark of hope ignited in his eyes.
It seemed his situation wasn't entirely hopeless after all.
Even though he was now a wolf, he had been granted a "golden finger."
He didn't know if he could eventually evolve back into a human,
but at the very least, surviving in the frozen Arctic would be much easier now.
"Devouring Evolution... that means I can grow stronger by eating things. As for Qi-Blood..."
Su Lin began to study the data displayed on his attribute panel.
Qi-Blood appeared to be his life force or health points.
If that value hit zero, it would likely mean death.
Endurance represented his stamina or physical energy.
Strength dictated his offensive power and how much damage he could deal.
Speed, of course, governed his movement and reflexes.
Generally speaking, the system was quite intuitive.
As for the Potential Potions, a helpful note explained their function:
they were extraordinary items capable of unlocking the hidden capabilities of his physical body upon use.
After analyzing the system, the gloom of being reborn as a beast began to lift from Su Lin’s mind.
Coming back to his senses, he lifted his cute, snowy wolf head and looked up at the Mother Wolf who was cradling him.
Immediately, her own attribute panel appeared before him.
Species: Arctic Wolf (Female).
Level: 4.
Qi-Blood: 432.
Endurance: 42.
Strength: 39.
Defense: 37.
Speed: 35.
It was clear that the Mother Wolf’s stats were vastly superior to his own.
This was likely the baseline for a mature female of their species.
Wriggling out from under her heavy paw, Su Lin climbed unsteadily onto her stomach and surveyed the interior of the cave.
He saw several other Arctic wolves resting nearby, conserving their strength.
It confirmed his suspicion that wolves were indeed highly social creatures.
Right beside the Mother Wolf, positioned closest to her, was the Father Wolf.
After checking the status of every wolf in the den, Su Lin observed that the Father Wolf possessed the highest attributes present.
Furthermore, because the Father Wolf and Mother Wolf occupied the prime spot in the center of the cave where the sunlight hit,
it was almost certain that the Father Wolf was the Alpha of the pack.
Species: Arctic Wolf (Male).
Level: 6.
Qi-Blood: 589.
Endurance: 68.
Strength: 59.
Defense: 57.
Speed: 60.
These were the Father Wolf's stats.
Such numbers were far higher than the Mother Wolf's and seemed impressive even for a male Arctic wolf.
"Awoooo."
Just as Su Lin was attempting to use his weak paws to crawl toward the cave entrance to see the world outside, the Mother Wolf stirred.
She watched the cub clumsily scrambling over her and gave a low, warning growl before using a paw to drag Su Lin back into her warmth.
Only then did Su Lin notice another small female cub in the Mother Wolf's embrace. She looked even smaller than him—likely his Sister Wolf.
Currently, the Sister Wolf was nursing with great enthusiasm.
Seeing her eat so hungrily, Su Lin suddenly felt a wave of intense hunger wash over him.
Though his human mind felt a sense of hesitation, he couldn't fight the primal instincts of his new body.
He moved closer and began to feed alongside his sister.
"Ding! Consuming Arctic Wolf Mother's Milk, Evolution Points +0.1!"
The sound of the system alert in his mind, paired with the sweet nourishment on his tongue, caused Su Lin’s small wolf eyes to brighten with excitement.
