Bastet focused intently on operating the camera for Kaiden's emotional broadcast, deftly ignoring Calypso's misguided interference while the monster girls watched with tearful joy. Kaiden wrapped up the stream, thanking viewers on behalf of his mother as Alice waved enthusiastically before Bastet called cut. Relieved, Kaiden relaxed as Alice tackled Alexandra in excitement, declaring a massive celebration with pastries and dragging her to the kitchen, leaving him to turn toward Aria, Nyx, and Luna.

Aria brushed away her tears and beamed at him. Warm, full, proud. A smile that twisted his heartstrings painfully.

Nyx held his gaze and dipped her head just a bit.

Luna uncrossed her arms. She parted her lips, shut them, then opened them once more and whispered, "I’m happy for you, Kai. You really deserved this."

Bastet polished the camera lens with a cloth pulled from who-knows-where, yet her ears perked toward him while her tail swayed in lazy, satisfied loops, obviously craving the head scratches and compliments headed her way soon enough.

Calypso flashed a broad, wicked grin. "Great job, Darling!" Her voice boomed through the quiet space. "And the little sister’s spot on. Time to celebrate!"

...

The common lounge in the private wing sprawled wide with plush carpeting, featuring two sofas positioned opposite each other over a low table, a kitchenette peeking through an open arch, and ample room for seven women and one man to lounge without crowding.

Kaiden sank into the right end of the distant couch. Bastet snatched the center spot before others could react, with Calypso grabbing the left.

Bastet leaned sideways, draping her upper body over Kaiden’s lap, her head nestled on his thigh, arms loosely folded over his knee. Her tail extended the other way, lying across Calypso’s legs.

"Master... Did I do a good job?" she inquired, her huge, dramatic eyes gazing straight up at him.

He nodded with a grin. "You did way better than ’good.’ I’m proud of you, Bastet."

Her face lit up instantly, revealing the true aim of her question and look. "Then pamper me!"

With a chuckle, Kaiden’s hand settled on her head, fingers threading through her hair slowly and idly, scratching behind one ear.

Bastet’s eyes fluttered shut as a deep, rumbling purr vibrated from her chest, echoing through the room, her whole body melting limply against him.

On the facing couch, Aria, Nyx, and Luna got comfortable. Luna propped her feet up. Nyx’s arm stretched along the backrest. Aria kept grinning radiantly at Kaiden, her joy too overwhelming to hide.

Calypso crossed her arms and reclined. She started to speak.

Perfectly petted, Bastet’s tail rose from her legs and whacked her in the face.

Calypso blinked. The tail dropped back onto her thighs. She tried opening her mouth again.

It returned. A slow, blissful sweep brushing her nose, cheek, and lip corner before resting again.

Calypso’s eye twitched. She froze in place. The tail lay still. She breathed out and started to unwind.

It struck once more. As the fluffy end trailed from forehead to chin amid Bastet’s closed-eye purring, the demoness fully grasped: this wasn’t accidental.

The purring feline was flaunting her blissful spot.

The tail swung yet again.

Calypso’s lips parted, teeth snapping shut around the furry tail with a fierce bite.

"KYAAA!"

Bastet’s eyes snapped wide. She bolted upright, ears pinned back, hands gripping her tail’s base. Her head swiveled, golden eyes glaring at Calypso like a queen spotting filth in her tub.

"You barbarian!" Bastet screeched. "You uncultured brute! Let go right now or else!!!"

Calypso refused to let go. Her teeth gripped the tail firm, eyes fixed unyieldingly on Bastet. She chewed deliberately, with the steady rebellion of someone proving dominance.

Bastet’s fury wavered. She yanked side to side, shifting her hips, pulling then flinching sharply as the tail held fast. She pulled stronger. Calypso’s jaws clamped tight, one eyebrow arched in challenge: "or else what?"

Bastet’s ears pressed flatter. Her golden gaze flicked between Calypso, the tail, and back, a flash of real concern crossing her features.

It faded, swapped for the gleam of someone spying a golden chance.

Her ears drooped softly. Her lower lip jutted out. Her chin quivered once, in a performance so flawlessly pitiful it screamed theatrical scam.

She pivoted fully from Calypso, craned her head up to Kaiden, and fixed him with the biggest, teariest, most heartbreakingly vulnerable stare any catgirl could muster.

"Master..." she breathed. "Help me. Please. She’s hurting me."

Kaiden’s mouth quirked. His jaw clenched. He eyed Bastet’s quivering lip, then Calypso’s stoic munching, his chest heaving with a stifled laugh.

"Cali."

Calypso’s gaze shifted to him. Her jaws remained locked.

"..."

She lingered one beat longer. Then her teeth released, Bastet’s tail slipping out damp and mussed. Calypso swiped her mouth with her hand’s back.

"Darling, this smug kitty was provoking me!" Calypso’s voice erupted as tension burst. "She kept smacking my face! Repeatedly! With her tail! While purring! She did it deliberately!"

"I was just savoring the moment!!" Bastet whined from Kaiden’s lap, her tone tiny, pure, and utterly fake.

"No one’s buying your bullshit, you foul woman..." Calypso snarled.

Kaiden’s hand returned to Bastet’s head, fingers resuming their stroke through her hair. His other hand grasped her tail, easing it from her protective curl, and massaged the bitten spot with gentle thumb circles into the fur.

Bastet let out an overly loud moan of delight unfit for such a crowded room.

"Let’s try to get along, everyone, shall we?" Kaiden suggested. His tone held the weary forbearance of a man repeating this line countless times before and anticipating more.

The two monster girls faced off.

Bastet’s golden eyes clashed with Calypso’s over Kaiden’s lap. The catgirl’s ears stood tall. The demon’s arms stayed folded. A barrier of grudging respect divided them, rooted in total unwillingness to bond.

They stared for three solid seconds.

No one blinked.

Across the table, Luna snorted.

"You know, the headache used to be this one." She thumbed at Aria. "Permanent yandere mode. Hissing at every woman who got within two meters of Kai like a feral cat guarding a tasty fish. Now it’s the monster girls who’re at it." She nodded toward the opposite couch. "Kai, I already knew but truly... You just love women who give you migraines, don’t you?"

Aria’s head turned slowly, elegantly, like aiming a precise strike.

"Me?" Aria purred silkily. "What about you two? You and Nyx bicker and hiss at each other every single day. And I seem to recall a certain someone doing something very specific to her friend once, underground." Her eyes slitted. "What was that about again, Miss Gremlin?"

Luna’s expression blanked.

"Yeah," Nyx added, her grin turning razor-edged. "What about that, Miss Gremlin?"

Luna folded her arms tight. Her head jerked aside, staring at an intriguing wall spot.

"No comment..." she grumbled.

"Why?" Aria pressed.

"It was a completely different situation and context and I already apologized so we’re not talking about it."

"We could talk about it," Nyx suggested. "My poor little-"

"We’re so NOT talking about your freaking..."

She faded out.

Laughter erupted from all sides at once.

Kaiden surveyed them all. His girls. Squabbling, ribbing, dredging old scandals, denying mercy to any. He shook his head, the day’s fatigue unable to dim his smile.

To Kaiden’s right, beyond the vacant couch section, Vespera occupied an armchair.

Her hands rested folded in her lap, utterly motionless as usual. Save for her thumb repeatedly digging into her index finger’s side. The shadows pooling at her feet loomed unnaturally dark.
