Yunohana offers to help Kaiden manage the influx of applications for the new life he's offering, proposing to involve the Circle and the Japanese government. Kaiden agrees to let Yunohana represent him and Japan, though he later expresses reservations about the government's involvement in selecting applicants. He prefers to rely on Eclipse's staff and trusted sponsors, a decision Yunohana understands.

“I can still help arrange the journeys, and speak to my trusted colleagues about the Japanese entrance.”

“I’d appreciate that very much.”

They left the application reviews with Eclipse, with Nyx offering to ask Vespera about additional staff. Kaiden held the palace door for the others while Yunohana and Alexandra discussed arranging transport for the people their staff invited.

“Then I suppose I should do what Mom ordered me to do and get back to leveling.”

“Your next dungeons are already prepared for you. The Circle has selected suitable targets, and transport can take you to the first when you are ready.”

Yunohana glanced toward the others, then returned her attention to him.

“May I come with you?”

“Of course. I was sad, thinking you’d run off to the government.”

“I can do most of that remotely, and visit personally after you’re done for the day,” the Japanese beauty smiled, visibly overjoyed by his words. “I would like to become accustomed to fighting alongside everyone.” Her gaze passed from Aria to Nyx. “You know each other’s movements so well. I have rather a lot to learn.”

“You seemed pretty damn comfortable fighting with him on your date,” Luna pointed out.

“With Kaiden, yes. I must say, we’re quite the synergistic pair… But all of you together will be different.”

Luna scoffed.

“From shy milf to bragging milf in one night. What a fucking world.”

“I was merely stating a fact.”

Yunohana opened her fan with a pleased smile, looking around at the women gathered with her.

“Perhaps I could support you at first. Hold an enemy when you need an opening, interrupt an attack, help when someone is caught. You can pursue your levels while I learn where I can be most useful.”

“Sounds fun~” Nyx was instantly game. “We can work out how to keep everyone where they need to be.”

“And you can tell me when I am in the way,” Yunohana added with a rueful smile. “I would much prefer that to discovering it in front of something with teeth.”

Calypso giggled.

“We’ll look after you, Miss Milf.”

“That name’s here to stay, I presume…”

“Yep,” Luna nodded to Yunohana.

“If you don’t like it, I’ll talk to them,” Aria offered.

“No, it’s okay,” Yunohana smiled. “This ‘mother you’d like to fuck’ shall be in your care.”

Luna’s face soured immediately.

“Wait. Don’t say it out loud like that.”

“Isn’t that what it means?” Yunohana asked, closing her fan. “If Kaiden called me that, I would understand. But you girls… Well, I would never judge you for it.”

“…I’ll think of a new nickname.” Luna’s thoroughly wry expression made Yunohana’s smile grow.

She was beginning to enjoy herself when Calypso stepped close and swept her up in one arm, cradling her against her chest.

“Hie?!”

Yunohana caught the demoness’s shoulder with her free hand, her feet swinging clear of the floor.

“Just name the date and place, madam,” Calypso declared.

“E-eh…?”

She looked toward Kaiden, bewildered by how comfortably Calypso was holding her. Her lover appeared to be having considerable difficulty keeping a straight face.

“Let me know if you need a strap-on,” Luna offered. “I’ve got my sources.”

Calypso gave her a confident grin.

“This demoness might not have a weapon down there, but she needs no toys to make a woman happy~”

Calypso turned down the palace hall with Yunohana staring up at her. The shrine maiden’s composure deserted her entirely as she was carried away from the others.

“Ehhhh?! Kaiden?”

She reached back toward him. Kaiden gave Yunohana a cheerful salute.

Bastet watched the pair go, her ears tipping forward with interest.

“Is this what humans call rookie hazing?”

“Something like that~” Nyx purred. “Though I have to admit, Cali surprised even me. Who knew she was such a player?”

“Would you please stop chatting and help me?!” Yunohana cried.

…

Yunohana spent the carriage ride tucked against Kaiden, pouting furiously at Calypso across the aisle. The demoness only grinned back, utterly shameless.

When they reached the conquered cavern beyond the chasm, they disembarked and walked through the island gate into the ruined harvesting yard.

Kaiden paused beside the broken fence. Looking down the path toward the shore, he could picture visitors coming up from the boats, straight to the cave.

“We need to get this secured. I’ll ask Taigi to assign her warriors to this entrance for now. I’d like a reinforced gatehouse here, with the approach screened from the shore.”

Yunohana joined him by the fence. “I’ll ask Sonoda to check the land ownership and arrange permission for the work. My people can hold the entrance until the Dungeon-Born establish themselves out here.”

“Thank you, Yuno.”

They chose a spot for receiving visitors before heading down to the yacht. During the crossing, Nyx contacted Eclipse about application staff while Yunohana requested local help with transport and the island work.

At the marina, they transferred to the waiting cars and set off for their first dungeon.

…

Their first stop was a disused quarry in the wooded hills, its dungeon gate surrounded by a fortified enclosure. Yunohana spoke briefly with the officer on duty before bringing the family past the cordon.

“The creatures here are well above your level,” she told Kaiden, taking his hand as they approached the shimmering entrance. “I thought you might enjoy having plenty to work with.”

“After a perfect date, you present me with such a great buffet? I always knew you were wife material.”

“Ewww so cornyyyyyyyyyy!” Luna gagged.

“I was hoping you would be pleased with my selection,” Yunohana beamed, delighted by his praise.

He grinned at both her and the gremlin before stepping through, the others following close behind.

Cold air brushed his face. Beyond the gate, broad white steps descended into a sunken plaza, with black marble towers rising around it beneath a violet sky. Covered galleries connected the buildings high above the ground.

A porcelain sentry below the stairs turned toward them and struck its curved sword against its shield.

It stood taller than Kaiden, with blue patterns covering its white body and gold rings holding its limbs together across the empty spaces at its joints. Beneath a crested helmet, its face wore a painted smile.

At its signal, more porcelain soldiers left the galleries and began descending toward the plaza in disciplined ranks.

“Oh, they’ve got an army in here,” Luna muttered, summoning her Stormblade.

Kaiden’s attention caught on the robed figures moving behind the soldiers. Their collars stood empty above their shoulders, and each carried a collection of porcelain faces hanging from its belt.

One selected a blue mask and held it above its collar. A metallic voice spoke from the mask’s mouth, spilling luminous characters into the air.

The writing coiled around the advancing soldiers and hardened into translucent plates over their chests and shoulders.

“Their mages are armoring the front line,” Nyx said, watching another headless creature raise a red mask to its collar. “I’d like to see what that one does.”

Yunohana released Kaiden’s hand and opened her fan beside the space mage. He could feel her watching him as he moved toward the steps with Calypso, eager to get started.

Below them, the porcelain soldiers locked their shields together. The red mask opened its mouth.

It was time to level up and grind even more DMP!
