Fisher contemplates the final obstacle to completing the Life Completion Manual: acquiring a treasure. He must find a way to obtain it, possibly by repeating Erwin's actions, to seal the chaotic life energy. Meanwhile, Elliog waits impatiently for him to finish. As they leave, Elliog discusses the dire consequences of the Doomsday Prophecy and the unlikelihood of her release from the Mother Goddess's seal. Fisher expresses a desire to see her freed, which pleases her. They exit Paimon's palace and learn Emhardt has fled out of fear. While walking through the Demon Dynasty, Elliog asks Fisher for a reward for her help, but rejects his offers of material goods.

"That curse-spouting Paimon, did he call you darling?"

"Huh?"

"Huh, what? If it wasn’t you, was he calling a puppy?"

Fisher hadn’t expected that Helaier would catch onto the way he was addressed earlier. He thought she didn’t care, not realizing she just restrained herself earlier, waiting to confront him here.

Confronted by Elliog’s questioning, Fisher could only reply helplessly,

"...He was probably calling me."

"Then what do you call her?"

"Helaier?"

"...Hmph."

Elliog crossed her arms, and the flames behind her sharpened in irritation. She gnawed her lip with her fangs, her eyes drifting upwards as if in thought.

But before a minute passed, she was yawning languidly, as if the mental strain was too much for her energy.

So she decided to give up and directly asked Fisher,

"In your human language, or even in an angel’s, is there a term more impressive than ’darling’?"

"?"

Fisher was momentarily at a loss to answer Elliog, standing frozen, making her assume there wasn’t a more impressive term, and her expression became troubled as she sunk into contemplation again.

After one or two seconds, she glanced at Fisher, muttering in agitation,

"Then it’s settled, ’darling’ for her, and as my reward for helping you, you call me ’darling’... Yes, that’s it."

As if gaining an odd victory, her spirits were lifted, and she chuckled merrily, suppressing the urge to yawn. But just as she was about to question why Fisher hadn’t called her that yet, he suddenly lowered his head and captured her adorable lips, drawing out a burning warmth from them,

"Smooch..."

She blinked but didn’t resist, instead releasing a contented "gurgle" from deep in her throat.

Several seconds later, Fisher released her and she looked at him with uncontrollable laughter,

"Thanks, darling."

"..."

Elliog said nothing, merely folding her arms and instinctively licking her fangs, as if they had suddenly started itching.

The next moment, her gaze faltered slightly, her tail, wavering behind her, accentuating her tanned skin, which gradually took on a barely noticeable flush, its temperature rising uncontrollably.

Soon, she continued ahead, somewhat absentmindedly saying,

"Yeah... Well, then let’s get going!"

"..."

It seems Elliog Demon still has a way to go before conquering her competitive nature.

...

...

"Fisher!! Great, you’re okay!! I thought you might’ve been beaten up by that cursed Paimon and locked in his castle as... Ow!"

Soon, in the area outside the Seeking Knowledge Gate, Fisher saw Holan and Emhardt resting there.

Holan had changed into new clothes from who knows where, looking quite simple and almost primitive. And nearby was Book Knight, lamenting away, seemingly sensing something and quickly flying over while uttering his "touching" words.

But before he finished, Fisher, his face lined with frustration, grabbed and interrupted him.

Holan, not far away, also turned to Fisher, and as their gazes met, Fisher suddenly felt as if there had been a change in this person, an indistinct, indescribable feeling.

Like a vibrant shoot sprouting from ruins, capturing the whole field of view in an instant with its vibrant green hue.

"It’s good you’re alright. The priest was worried about your condition before leaving, if not for Elliog Demon..."

"Sorry, for all the trouble I’ve caused you."

Fisher had placed Emhardt on his shoulder, and seeing them start talking, Elliog behind him had quickly grown bored, glancing around until she found a flat rock nearby, jumping onto it nimble and lying down comfortably, out of sight.

Fisher came beside Holan, while Emhardt on his shoulder animatedly recounted all the events that transpired after Fisher’s departure.

Like how they discovered that the base didn’t release those two demon gods and Holan’s intervention in stopping Solomon from opening the ten gates...

Upon hearing the details for the second time, Fisher still felt puzzled because someone seeking death like him would stop Solomon at that moment. Fisher couldn’t believe Holan did not understand Solomon’s intentions; the two Undying should have comprehended each other’s shared fate at the sight of one another.

After hearing it all, Fisher glanced perplexedly at Holan but was met with his equally puzzled and contemplative gaze. Sensing Fisher’s attention, Holan didn’t return the gaze; instead, he looked at the magma, observing the flowing heat as he queried,

"Are you surprised? Why would I do that?"

"...Well, based on my understanding, at the time, He Ya was about to awaken, the Death Authority was more active, and even if your death was taken away, you should have been able to go with Solomon at that point."

"Yes, indeed..."

Holan pondered over it and reached into his jacket, only to find nothing. He suddenly remembered that his cigarettes and flask had been discarded into the magma.

Regret painted his face, but he didn’t retract his hand, pressing it against himself, explaining,

"Because I promised the Book Knight to help you, but to be honest, our relationship hasn’t reached such closeness, or rather, ’relationships’ are illusory to me. So, at Solomon’s invitation to die, I was swayed. Though I refused him, I also had a vague intuition... I felt that even if he opened the ten gates, facing the Death Authority wouldn’t kill him."

"Wouldn’t die?"

"Ah, perhaps only He Ya’s complete awakening could achieve that, but even if the ten gates opened, He Ya refused to awaken. I felt that when we faced him. And our undying nature is granted by the Death Authority without will, so facing it accomplishes nothing."

Holan shook his head with a smile, explaining to Fisher.

Fisher was left dumbfounded.

If in this world only He Ya’s awakening could dissolve their death, then fundamentally, it was impossible for them to die unless the entire world was destroyed by the Doomsday Prophecy, leading to He Ya’s awakening, where there might be a slight chance.

But by then, He Ya probably wouldn’t care about such a small "accident"?

Could this be an unsolvable problem?

Fisher couldn’t help but think, but Holan’s thoughts diverged as he chuckled, questioning,

"Fisher, have you ever wondered how Agares managed to steal death from us?"

"..."

"Doesn’t it sound mystical? Even if she is an Eighteenth Rank Demon God, having such a thing, capable of killing any living creature, born of her hands seems unbelievable. Even if she is the Demon of Curiosity Gate capable of such feats, forming a death rune would be under stringent conditions conforming to death’s logic."

Holan lowered his head a bit, covering his chest, feeling the faint pulsation within him, his pace quickening,

"From the logic of death, it’s rather simple. Before my death was stripped away, Agares cast from afar, stealing the death triggered by certain events, disrupting my death logic. And you should’ve noticed, what was stolen wasn’t just my death, but the entirety of post-death. New feelings can’t arise in me, and my body is frozen in a pre-death moment...

"But, Fisher, the Death Authority bestows death limitlessly, so theoretically, True God Level Authority doesn’t allow the theft of death to erase one’s death... So, I have a theory. Agares didn’t steal my death, but rather she stole the factors triggering our death, leaving us forever in the moment before death...
