“Leader, two intruders are invading my domain!” A soft voice suddenly rang out in an abandoned building near the church.
“Have Pakunoda and Shizuku escape through the secret passage in the church. Let them come in!” Tiny lights slowly floated up from the empty floor. These firefly-like spots gathered in the dark room, forming glowing characters: “Aren’t they after the auction items? Give them everything!”
…
“The two heartbeats in the church started moving! They’re retreating toward the back of the Abandoned District!” Melody, who had been listening with her eyes closed, opened them and turned to report to Qin Lun.
“Qin Lun, I’m going first!” Kurapika took off his outfit from the Kurta Clan, revealing a white martial arts suit. The boy leaped forward, jumping over a fence twice his height, and rushed toward the Abandoned District. He seemed eager to join the fight.
“Wait… seriously!” Qin Lun tried to stop him with an outstretched hand but saw the boy had already gained distance. He could only shake his head helplessly.Kurapika was just his partner. At this point, it barely mattered if he listened to orders. To the boy, Qin Lun had done his best. He created the best chance for victory, and now the fight depended on Kurapika alone.
The Kurta Clan’s hatred could not be handled by others anymore.
“Kurapika!” Melody looked anxiously at the young man. “Qin Lun, not yet?”
Qin Lun’s eyes flashed. He knew Rand and the puppet had just entered the outskirts of the Abandoned District. That Pakunoda and Shizuku detected them from so far seemed odd. It stirred his doubts again.
“Fine, maybe I’m overthinking.” Qin Lun looked at Kurapika’s fading back, sighed, and brushed aside his thoughts. He waved to Zeno and Silva behind him, signaling them to follow.
Just after crossing the fence, Qin Lun stopped. He reached out to halt Melody and said, “Don’t come farther. Keep monitoring the area. If there’s any sign of movement, alert me with this!”
Qin Lun pulled out a flare gun from his pocket and tossed it to Melody. This was a needed step. Phone calls could explain things clearly, but electronic signals could be easily blocked by Nen users. Sometimes, flares were faster and simpler.
“A blue flare means Pakunoda and Shizuku are escaping. Yellow means Kuroro and his team are coming back from the Amusement Park. Green means an ambush is here, but the enemy’s strength is still manageable.” Qin Lun paused, pointing to the last flare. “Red means the situation has changed. This is a trap we can’t fight.”
As Qin Lun set up the final measures, Zeno and Silva behind him shared a quiet glance. They saw mutual respect. The Zoldyck Family was used to head-on fights, but that didn’t mean they scorned clever warriors.
“Rand, make the puppet enter the church. The two guarding Troupe members are pulling out. And… activate the backup plan!” Qin Lun opened his phone, spoke without pause, and hung up before Firecracker could argue.
“FUCK!” Rand cursed with a scowl, then narrowed his eyes. “Why start the plan? Has something shifted?”
Grumbling aside, Rand sneaked toward the church unwillingly. He was already in the Abandoned District. As long as it wasn’t a trap, with his puppet, he could hold off Pakunoda and Shizuku until help came—or escape at worst.
…
“Leader, they’ve found the secret room with the auction items! Wait, why does this aura feel so familiar?”
To the right of the church, a deserted building stood—a ten-story residential block. Just then, in a messy first-room, a dusty floor exploded with a “thud”. Rubble scattered as a huge pit opened.
A small figure leaped out from the hole. His messy white hair hung over his face, hiding everything but one bright, shining eye.
“Kortopi, not yet!” In the dark room, faint lights gathered again into glowing characters.
“What’s… wrong with me?” Kortopi lifted his hand, catching glistening tears rolling down his cheek. “Leader, sorry. I can’t… control myself. I must know… that answer!”
Kortopi looked toward the church. His tangled hair blew back as he jumped through a broken window, speeding off.
…
“Qin Lun, I found it! I found the Ahura Mazda Bronze Statue and the Scarlet Eye you wanted!” Rand’s joyous voice burst from the phone. “So that’s it! So that’s it! Hahaha!”
“Found? So easily?” Qin Lun stared at his phone and frowned hard. He murmured to himself, “No. Something’s definitely wrong.”
“What exactly did I miss?” Qin Lun turned around, lost in thought.
“If Hisoka lied to us…”
“No issue. Even if Hisoka tricked us, the Troupe shouldn’t know Melody exists!”
“Besides, they copied so many buildings. Wasn’t that meant to hide the real stashed spot?”
“Hold on. Right after Rand and the puppet entered the Abandoned District, Pakunoda and Shizuku exited the church…”
“So, these buildings might not be cover for them… Plus, their layout feels odd. The gaps between them are too even!”
“…Like fences on a plain trapping prey!”
Qin Lun’s face changed. He sped up, racing past nearby structures. His palms were covered in sticky red mist—the Blood of Dissection, transformed from Joey’s killing vibe. It was the only “Hatsu” he could use from his Nen Ability.
He pressed his Blood-covered palms onto the walls, hunting for “copies”.
“So he’s spotted it?” Zeno smiled faintly behind him.
“He’s impressive. His only flaw is not grasping Nen Ability deeply. If he survives, he’ll learn not to charge into a Conjuration expert’s ‘domain’.”
Silva’s eyes gleamed. He sighed and shook his head, his deep voice low. “Hmm.”
At the third building, Qin Lun found what he sought. As his palm touched the wall, it sank like soft cake, plunging right in.
This “copied” building visibly twisted. Qin Lun’s palm acted like a greedy beast, devouring it. Or a hungry void. In just ten seconds, the tall building was “sucked” away.
That was the Blood of Dissection’s Nen “Hatsu”—Annihilation!
Joey’s slaying spirit was fierce. Transformed to Blood of Dissection, it gained shattering and melting traits. To other Nen, it acted like an acid. If Qin Lun had enough energy points, he could break any Nen Ability.
To big names in the Hunter World, the Blood of Dissection was a curse-clearing power. Qin Lun was a curse clearer. To Apostles, it wasn’t just purification—it was pure destruction.
“That Conjuration Troupe member hid aura in the copies? That formed a mock ‘En’!”
Staring at the vanished building, Qin Lun’s face paled. He understood he might be trapped.
“These copies didn’t conceal. They warned! Meaning… the Troupe watched us all along!”
“If it’s just warning, fine. But if…”
“Bang!” While Qin Lun thought, green smoke burst above.
“A green flare—more Troupe members here!” Qin Lun looked up at the bright flash. His eyes shrank to dots. “Melody didn’t phone. Either foes closed in fast, panicking her; or the Troupe blocked signals big-time.”
“So,” Zeno stood arms behind, eyeing the uneasy young man with a knowing grin. “What do you do now?”
…
“Whoa, flare noise!” Rand, plundering the church’s secret room, tensed. He checked his phone and gasped. “Signals jammed—a trap!”
“Go first!” Firecracker straightened his hunched form, eyes bright. He trailed the wooden puppet, darting out.
The man and puppet burst onto ground level. They saw a small figure bolt into the church door, blocking escape.
“Block him!” Rand pointed sharply. The puppet lunged as he charged toward a cracked colored-glassed window. With a “crash”, he flew out.
But the small figure ignored fleeing Rand. It stared at the onrushing puppet, body quivering—frozen stiff.
“It’s you… I missed your vibe at first!” Kortopi watched the puppet hover stiffly. His vision blurred; tears flooded down.
Seeing that once-sunshine face now rough as doll stitches. Seeing those eyes dead as glass beads.
Kortopi’s hair flew back. A harsh howl pierced the church, echoing all over the Abandoned District. Its sadness scared listeners.
“Shalnark… It’s Shalnark!”
