Volume 7 Chapter 47: Return »

Zeno glanced at the surveillance screen, where the fierce battle was still ongoing. Unlike the previous two encounters, this time Qin Lun deployed all the hired Nen Ability users at once and adopted a guerrilla fighting style. It was not easy for the Troupe to end the battle quickly.

Watching Qin Lun’s back as he walked out of the room, a sharp glint inadvertently flashed in Zeno’s cloudy eyes. Although every assassin from the Zoldyck Family was skilled in killing, they treated it merely as a job and did not take pleasure in it.

However, the young man in front of him seemed to enjoy manipulating others’ fates, treating everyone as pawns. To test the true combat strength of the Troupe members who went to the Amusement Park, he did not hesitate to send his subordinates to die in batches, his heart as cold as steel.

“Hohoho! Such individuals are probably rare even in times of war!” Zeno chuckled lightly with his hands behind his back. The old assassin was beginning to look forward to how the story would unfold.

Kurapika worriedly looked at the screen and then followed the two out of the surveillance attic.

Earlier that morning, Qin Lun had proactively told him about his encounters with Jie and Killua. After that, Jie and Killua received a call from him, but both firmly stated they would not withdraw. Kurapika had no choice but to threaten Qin Lun with his own withdrawal, urging the Mafia to use their hired Nen Ability users to protect the two youths.

“Ah, this is so annoying, a bunch of sneaky little rats!” Nobunaga expressionlessly pulled his long sword out of a Nen Ability user’s chest, wiping the blood and flesh splattered on his cheek with his sleeve. His kimono was already stained with patches of blood.

“Be patient. Didn’t Kuroro warn us before we left?” Hisoka smiled and waved his hand. A sniper bullet that was heading towards him with a loud bang suddenly changed direction in mid-air, shooting back even faster than before. A muffled groan was heard from a distance as someone died.

“Hisoka, don’t get too cocky. After this is over, I will definitely cut you in half!” Nobunaga said coldly. By now, they already knew Hisoka’s true purpose for joining the Phantom Troupe was only to fight the Leader, Kuroro.

“If you want to break the promise, I don’t mind!” Hisoka smiled and twisted his neck.

“Enough, stop arguing! Hurry up and clear the Amusement Park!” Feitan felt somewhat anxious. He pulled out his vibrating phone from his pocket. “It’s Pakunoda. Quiet down!”

“Feitan, how is it going over there? Can you make it back in time?” A calm female voice came from the phone.

“We’ll do our best. If the way back is smooth, it might take about half an hour!” Feitan said flatly.

“Hehe, the opponent won’t leave such an obvious weakness. Don’t worry about things here; just be careful on your way back!” Pakunoda chuckled. “Anyway, the Leader never expected you to return in time!”

“This is really unpleasant. You guys get to have the main course, while we only get scraps!” Feitan said with a gloomy expression.

“Hehe, who told you to be the most agile among us, and Nobunaga the only swordsman. The Leader said only the two of you can ensure you won’t be captured by the Chain User in a one-on-one situation!” Pakunoda said amusedly. “What about Hisoka? Is he causing trouble?”

“No!” Feitan glanced at Hisoka, who was fighting. “He doesn’t seem to be planning any tricks this time.”

“Good. We’re about to start here too.” Pakunoda’s tone became serious. “The Leader asked me to shoot down the ‘eyes’.”

“Oh, can you handle it?” Feitan yawned, feeling somewhat listless, and asked lazily.

“Hehe, you’re underestimating me. Besides, Franklin is here to help!” Pakunoda said coldly. “If you’re so unmotivated, be careful not to fail in a simple task… beep!”

“She hung up! This woman… why was it Shalnark who got captured by the opponent, not her!” Feitan looked at the phone that had been hung up and muttered helplessly.

“Sir, our hot air balloon over the Abandoned District exploded!” Qin Lun, who was on his way to the Abandoned District, received this bad news shortly after leaving.

“Who did it?” Qin Lun raised an eyebrow and asked casually.

“Due to the explosion, the surveillance team didn’t get a clear image. They could only tell it was a tall woman!” The Mafia member’s voice on the phone sounded panicked.

“Pakunoda?” Qin Lun murmured quietly. “Understood. Notify Melody.”

“Starting to face counterattacks?” Zeno, sitting in the back seat, smiled and crossed his arms. “Young man, should I notify Silva to go in and scout first?”

“No need. Mr. Silva is an important combat force, unlike those pawns that can be sacrificed at any time.” Qin Lun turned back and smiled. “Old Mr. Zeno, can’t hold back anymore?”

“Indeed. Seeing you young people so active reminds me of my younger days.” Zeno nodded with a smile.

The departure point for Qin Lun and the others was not far from the Abandoned District where the Troupe was hiding. Although the young man had chosen a midpoint between the suburban Abandoned District and the Amusement Park in downtown Yorknew, they were actually closer to the Abandoned District.

After more than ten minutes of speeding, they soon saw Melody and Silva, who were responsible for monitoring the edge of the Abandoned District. Only Firecracker Rand was still missing.

Silva Zoldyck was a muscular man with long silver hair cascading over his shoulders, looking mighty and imposing. However, his snake-like pupils added a hint of sinister fierceness to his majestic demeanor. Seeing Zeno get out of the car, he silently stood shoulder to shoulder with him.

“Kurapika, you’re here!” Melody happily waved to the approaching group.

“Melody, you’ve worked hard!” Kurapika’s eyes flashed with a hint of apology.

“It’s fine. Besides, I didn’t help much.” Melody patted Kurapika and comforted him softly.

“Melody, did you hear anything?” Qin Lun looked at the Abandoned District enclosed by barbed wire and asked calmly.

“Yes, inside the Church in the center of the Abandoned District, there are two distinct heartbeats.” Melody said softly. “Other sounds are hard to make out. This area has been abandoned for a long time, gathering many stray dogs and wild cats. The chirping of insects and birds is just too frequent.”

“Oh, really?” Qin Lun frowned and walked to the barbed wire, looking into the dilapidated Abandoned District.

“Huh, there seem to be many more buildings here!” After watching for a while, Qin Lun suddenly raised his eyebrows, a trace of pleasant surprise in his eyes. “They had the Conjuration-type member replicate a large number of buildings.”

“What? The buildings here are conjured?” Kurapika and Melody looked at each other in shock. The young man grabbed the barbed wire and exclaimed, “Even tall buildings can be conjured? Such a powerful ability!”

“Since the opponent wants to mix the real with the fake, there probably aren’t too many people left here.” Silva’s voice was exceptionally deep as he calmly suggested, “If we’re going to act, it’s best…”

Before Silva could finish, he felt Zeno subtly tug his sleeve from behind.

“Father?” Silva looked at the old man somewhat puzzled.

“I saw Kalluto on the surveillance footage earlier…” Zeno opened his mouth and silently mouthed the words.

“That’s not surprising. That child has always wanted to join the Troupe.” Silva shrugged, indicating he already knew, but then blinked. “Wait, I remember Kalluto has been with…”

Seeing his son understood, Zeno grinned and nodded silently.

“Illumi!” Silva stroked his chin, slowly frowned, and looked at Zeno with a hint of confusion in his eyes. “If Illumi is over there, this should be a trap… Father, why not tell them?”

“We only help with killing; identifying traps is not the Zoldyck’s responsibility.” Zeno smiled silently.

“Father, I haven’t seen you this excited in many years.” Silva also smiled silently. “But this way, the pressure on us two will be huge. That Qin Lun will definitely leave us behind to cover the retreat.”

“It’s just a bit more work. Besides, the two of us can’t hold off too many opponents. I really want to see what other tricks that cunning guy has prepared?” Zeno narrowed his eyes slyly.

At that moment, Qin Lun did not know what the two members of the Zoldyck Family were discussing. The Troupe’s defensive measure of conjuring buildings in the Abandoned District to mix the real with the fake finally dispelled the last trace of doubt in his mind.

Now Qin Lun began to believe that the Phantom Troupe had taken the bait and sent most of their members to the Amusement Park.

“Qin Lun!” Kurapika looked intently at the young man.

Both he and Qin Lun had already entered the Troupe’s sight. However, Melody’s ability was too covert; the Troupe probably hadn’t noticed her.

This indirectly indicated that the Phantom Troupe conjuring the buildings in the Abandoned District was only to protect the two members left behind. This allowed them to confirm that they had found the Troupe’s weak point as planned.

“Don’t rush!” Qin Lun rolled his eyes, turned around, and walked towards the car. He took out a large suitcase from the trunk and calmly unzipped it.

“Creak, creak, creak!” A puppet stiffly sat up in the suitcase and slowly stood up.

“This is…” Seeing the puppet for the first time, Silva’s eyes showed a trace of surprise.

“How pitiful.” Zeno shook his head gently, looking at the puppet with his hands behind his back.

“Rand, is everything ready?” Qin Lun dialed a number and asked calmly.

“Hey, don’t tell me you want me to take the lead!” Rand understood as soon as he answered the phone, before Qin Lun could finish. “Why don’t you have the two from the Zoldyck Family do it?”

“Hehe, I don’t trust them. Don’t you want the bronze statue?” Qin Lun said with a smile. “I’ll have the puppet cooperate with you. You should know this thing requires one of us to control it at close range!”

“I’m starting to regret cooperating with you.” Rand rolled his eyes, annoyed, and hung up.
