Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics Chapter 6057 - 5073: Fighter’s Fate (19)
At this moment, the Stark Tower was in utter chaos. Just a few minutes ago, Iron Man was in his office investigating how the sample of the symbiotic factor was leaked when a commotion suddenly erupted downstairs.
Iron Man instinctively wanted to wear his battle armor, but he dared not. He had almost gotten his neck twisted by his own armor before, and it hadn’t healed yet. So he could only grab his gun and slowly approached the window.
Suddenly, a sentinel robot, not knowing where it came from, made a thunderous leap, directly crashed through the glass of the floor-to-ceiling window, knocked down Iron Man in front of the window, and raised its gleaming arms to slash at him.
Iron Man tumbled and crawled. Although he had been injected with the Extremis Virus, with a constitution stronger than ordinary people and self-healing ability, he didn’t have the man of steel’s body. Previously, when the church was attacked, the knife on the arm of this sentinel robot could even cut through Superman’s skin. No matter how powerful the Extremis Virus was, it couldn’t sew a person cut into two pieces back together.
Iron Man scrambled out toward the door, summoning the mecha as he ran. He couldn’t care whether the mecha would rebel or not, his feud with electronic life could be dealt with later, if he didn’t arm himself now, his ass might really be left hanging on a tree branch.
Fortunately, Brainiac didn’t make things difficult for him, the gold and red mecha flew in through the window and armed him. But Iron Man still dared not engage the sentinel robot head-on, dodging the blade light once again, he twisted his body and flew out of the window.
He thought the sentinel robot would chase him, but instead, after emerging from the window, it completely ignored him and headed straight for the laboratory. Iron Man was so anxious it made him jump.
"Pepper, Pepper!! Quickly go to the fifth floor and activate the high alert security measures! Don’t let it in!!!"
Actually, Pepper had already gone to the fifth floor the moment things went south. But she encountered Talons, assassins that were reanimated corpses by the Court of Owls, incredibly fast, immensely strong, and numerous, completely blocking the hallway.
Pepper made a sharp stop in front of them, swallowing hard. She couldn’t handle so many Talons. It wasn’t that she lacked strength, the key was inexperience. Pepper had never fought such a battle against a large number and had no confidence to take on many at once.
She took a deep breath and turned to run back, Talons chasing behind her, but Pepper was fast. In the blink of an eye, she had reached the stairwell, taking out her phone as she ran.
"Didn’t you say you’d protect me 24/7?!" Pepper called directly to the agent. "I need backup!!!"
"Stay calm, ma’am," the agent said. "I’m on the fifth floor."
The agent hadn’t left at all. By rights, he should have been sticking close to Pepper. But the reason they were separated was simple; just before, Pepper and Iron Man got into a spat, and the agent, having no interest in eavesdropping, went downstairs for a cup of coffee.
As luck would have it, the attack came. Though one might say Pepper’s escapade warranted it somewhat, work was work. Upon hearing the noise, the agent wanted to go upstairs to help, but Brainiac contacted him in time, directing him to go to the fifth floor and activate the security system directly.
Once the high-alert security measures were activated, the most important laboratory in Stark Tower was completely sealed off. The materials used for protection were Vibranium and symbiote armor; the former providing hardness and energy absorption, the latter rapidly repairing, buying time against intruders.
"I suggest you leave for now," Brainiac’s voice sounded in Iron Man’s mecha, almost causing him to plunge headfirst.
"You!!!" Iron Man roared in anger.
"Calm down; if it weren’t for me, you’d be dead already," Brainiac said. "Now, listen to me, fly a bit farther, don’t get shot down. Wait for backup to arrive, then you can go back."
"The laboratory door can’t hold much longer." Iron Man took a deep breath, deciding not to argue with this malicious artificial intelligence for now. He said, "That sentinel robot’s destructive power is too great. If it breaks into the laboratory and absorbs all the symbiotic factor samples, the consequences would be unimaginable!"
"I’ve already mobilized your other mechas," Brainiac said. "They can buy us some time; descend immediately, and let me remind you once again..."
Iron Man suddenly sensed a noise from behind, a swarm of mechas flew over, some even of styles Iron Man didn’t know where they came from, likely old models he had hidden at some base long ago and had since forgotten, all now dug out by Brainiac.
Iron Man was furious. With JARVIS turning into Vision, here came another Brainiac. Did he have some kind of discord with electronic life?
But he had to admit, Brainiac’s operational capability was undeniable. The mecha army swarmed in, fighting competently, forcing the sentinel robot, which had been violently attacking the laboratory doors, to halt its assault to deal with these stubborn tin cans.
Most mechas were no match for the sentinel robot, chopped into pieces at a flash of the blade. But the sheer number still helped, and with so many mechas closing in, the sentinel robot had to take its time chopping.
Iron Man breathed a sigh of relief, disregarding Brainiac’s advice, flying toward the sentinel robot. At this moment, no one wanted to deal with this silver monster more than he did.
The next second, the mecha suddenly blared an alarm, a massive laser beam hit Iron Man’s chest directly, burning through the mecha’s exterior in an instant, leaving a hole in Iron Man’s chest.
Disbelieving, he plummeted downward, fortunately, another mecha flew out from the building, catching Iron Man under Brainiac’s control. Iron Man gasped for air, his chest wound slowly healing.
Suddenly, a figure swiftly swept across the horizon, and under the impact of immense pain, Iron Man couldn’t even clearly see who it was. It wasn’t until the falling speed slowed down that he barely saw that the figure was stepping on a glider.
"Green Goblin???" Iron Man thought he was hallucinating. "Where did the Green Goblin come from??? "
"That’s also a Sentinel Robot," Brainiac said, "but it’s a different model. I couldn’t find information about this model in the database, it’s very likely a recent production. The Court of Owls indeed got the Mother Module."
Iron Man’s mind buzzed, and at that moment Brainiac brought even worse news. He projected an image inside the Mecha for Iron Man and then said, "The canister on its back looks like something Bane would use. This is a Bane model Sentinel Robot."
"Who is Bane again?" Iron Man was on the verge of a meltdown.
"His greatest achievement was breaking Batman’s spine," Brainiac concisely stated. Iron Man almost wanted to bang his head on the ground.
This guy was holding a gun in his hand, continuously using rays to attack the lab door. The penetration power of these rays was strong, and soon a hole appeared in the door.
"No!!!" Iron Man roared, "Stop him!!!"
Before he finished speaking, a pitch-black figure jumped over from the rooftop of another building. Iron Man was stunned.
"Venom?! "
However, this Venom looked slightly different in this cosmos. The Venom joining the battle had a very prominent white spider emblem on his chest, was a size larger than the ordinary Venom, and his eyes resembled Spider-Man’s spider eyes, looking like a larger and more ferocious version of Spider-Man.
He leaped directly from the rooftop of another building into the Stark Building, spreading his blood-filled maw wide open, biting off the head of a Talon in one bite. The crunching sound of chewing made brains splatter, and with a movement of his throat, a flick of his tongue, he then grabbed another Talon nearby, stuffing half of its body into his mouth, chewing while spewing blood foams. This ferocious scene made Iron Man take a few steps back.
Then his gaze fell on the silver-white Sentinel Robot. This color triggered a lot of bad memories, as the silver monster Riot, which he couldn’t defeat in his original cosmos, looked very similar to this Sentinel Robot.
Venom tilted his head, his scarlet tongue flicking through the air, emitting a silent roar. With a fierce jump, he lunged towards the Sentinel Robot.
The Sentinel Robot raised its arms to resist, but the next second was smashed out of the Building by Venom. Venom jumped high again, countless black threads erupted from him, sticking to the glass curtain walls of the surrounding buildings, allowing him to float in mid-air as if riding the wind, throwing himself onto the Sentinel Robot, biting its shoulder with his blood-filled maw.
The Sentinel Robot appeared to have no sense of pain but struggled desperately to shake off Venom, like prey caught in a Spider’s web. However, Venom wasn’t only performing a physical attack; he was devouring the opponent’s Symbiotic Factor, which was a unique combat style for symbiotes.
What pierced the Sentinel Robot’s shoulder wasn’t just Venom’s teeth but countless invisible Symbiotic Factors. The black and white factors clashed within the Sentinel Robot, almost instantly causing it to become paralyzed.
Venom retracted the Spider silk, making the two figures land on the ground. He pressed the Sentinel Robot firmly, swinging his head forcefully again, tearing off half of the opponent’s body. Standing up straight, he tilted his head back, countless black slime emerged, swallowing an arm along with half a shoulder whole.
Standing at that spot, Venom let out a brazen roar, his entire body of black slime surging, growing even larger than before, while the patterns belonging to Spider-Man on his body became increasingly clear, presenting an overall black and white intertwined state.
Suddenly, his body paused, as if sensing something, swiftly rolling aside to avoid incoming lasers. Squinting, he looked back at the figure flying over on a glider.
"Green Goblin?" Venom was also a bit confused. But he quickly let out another roar, the black Symbiotic Factors turning into Spider Silk, swinging him into the air to spar with another Sentinel Robot.
Iron Man, however, focused on the Sentinel Robot that had been torn in half. He manipulated the Mecha, stealthily trying to approach but suddenly found it wasn’t responding to his commands.
"What are you doing?" Iron Man shouted, "Let me go over!"
"Don’t even think about it," Brainiac said, "Even if this thing lost an arm, it can easily tear you apart. Don’t go over there!"
"But I need to retrieve it!" Iron Man shouted, "That thing used my technology, aside from the Symbiote Armor, it also contains the Extremis Virus’ Mother Module. I can’t let it fall into someone else’s hands!"
"I don’t care about that," Brainiac said, "In any case, you can’t go over there, or I’ll twist your neck off."
Iron Man gritted his teeth, but he had no other options. He suddenly realized how limited being a tin can was; once someone controlled his Mecha, he became a puppet to be manipulated with no means of fighting back.
